  • Need a good recipe...please:)?

OK, i have been invited to a football party next weekend. Normally this would not be a big deal but this party is not with my normal group of friends...so i need to being something that will impress. Why do i need to impress you ask? Because its kind of a setup "get to know a guy" kinda thing so i need to show off some impressive kitchen skillz:)

Here are my requirements. It needs to be some sort of app/finger food/dip or dessert it also need to be able to travel about 30 min via car to the party location. I don't really want to have to heat or prepare anything at the home because i hardly know the hosts.

So anyone have any good ideas, surefire winning recipes, yummy treats?

  • Problem at work...not sure how to handle?

So here is the deal...my work. I have a boss...i will call her JANE. We have and office manager...I will call her MARY. We have a...well i don't know what she is...i will call her BETH.

Jane the boss ...well her mother is Mary (the office manager) and the one with no job title...Beth is Jane's sister and also the daughter of Mary. There are only 3 other paid employees in the office.

So here is my problem, I am new...and my boss is out of town quite a bit. Whenever my boss is out of town Beth has been letting me know what i needed to do. Even though my boss puts out weekly to do lists...if she is gone...what Beth tells me to do is ALWAYS "more important". DUmb me figured that since ya know they are sister and in good "communication" and therefor Beth would know what really needed to do. Ya well now i am in deep dodo. I have been working my backside off for weeks...doing all this work (for beth) not understanding that i should have been working on other stuff.

Mary, the office manager and mom, says the Beth tends to think she is boBeth'sen the real boss is out of town.

So do i have a little pow-wow with my real boss and let her know that i have been doing all of Beths work for her?? Because remember this is the boss's sister...how do i handle this appropriately? Because i am going to be throwing her sister under the buss.

By the way i love what i do at work...i just HATE where i work!!!

  • OK all you people with a masters...i need some guidence...?

I am 33 and looking to go back to school and get my masters...i know what school i want and i know what program i want...check!

Now...I know i will have to take the GRE and i am kinda freaking out about it a bit. I mean i graduated with my BFA and a GPA of 3.85...so that is above the required GPA for entrance to this program...check!

Would it be in my best interest to get some help to brush up on my basic math skills? What should i expect from the test in general? I know if i get my stuff together i can take the GRE in April..is that too soon? Should i hold off till September??

Ok, once i have taken the GRE how long does it take to get results and in turn submit them to the program for admission consideration?

OK that was a bunch of question all rolled into one mass....can anyone help me???

  • I need some new books..can you help me out?

OK...i need some new reading material.

I love mystery and suspense. Dean Koontz has always been one of my favs but some of his new ones are not doing it for me. This need to be an easy, fun read...and something that i do not want to put down. I am not opposed to books geared towards the younger crowds because i plowed through all the twilight books and loved them. (FYI...i am in my early 30's)

    So anyone have any suggestions?

  • Question about my dog...wondering what this is?

OK, so i have a 9 year old heeler, Stewart. He has done this thing since he was a puppy and i am curious as to why he does it.

He will not chew on toys...he prefers to suck on them. he will have a toy in his mouth and he will kneed the toy with his paws...much like a pup would do while nursing. Could this be some sign of him no being weened properly? He was a adoption from a shelter at about 12 weeks and they had very little information about where he came from.

RIght now he appears to be asleep...but he has a toy in his mouth and he is sucking on it...it is really strange.. Anyone have any input on this?

  • BBUK 10...Bea...redneck...yank?

OK, so as an American who watches BBUK (and has for a few years now) I wanted to know if anyone else found this funny.

I believe that Bea called Isaac a yank (short for yankee) and then turned around and called him a redneck...

So am i right in thinking that they are both slang terms used for Americans by brits?

I find this funny because in American a yankee and redneck could not be more opposite in terms as to what they imply...people from the south call people from the north yankees and people from the north call people from the south rednecks. LOL..they are no where even close to being one in the same:)

Did any of you UK know that? Is there something similiar over there?? Or do y'all just have a go at each other based on towns?

lets just call this a "teachable moment"....:)

  • Smothering guy...help please (adult)?

So i went on a date on sunday with a guy...had a good evening. There was pretty much no spark for me..although he was nice and the conversation was good...there was just no attraction from my end.

    (BTW i am a 30 something)

Well...i told him that i would not mind hanging out with him again (friends are never a bad thing) and so he asked me to go to a concert with him in 2 weeks..i said ok. Friends right? WRONG!! in the past 4 days he has blow up my phone with calls and texts, asked me to go on vacation with him in october and actually told me that he wants me to give him a pet name...uhhhhhh. WE HAVE ONLY BEEN ON ONE DATE! I have tried to be polite but it does not seem to be working and i am at a loss, i have never dealt with a guy like this before. I have canceled on him 2 times in the past week in hopes he would get a hint (he has not) and really at this point i feel like i should run away and run fast. I am just having a hard time being mean...anyone have any suggestions.

  • Need a new Laptop...any suggestions?

OK, so i have my laptop for 3 years...and this past weekend it finally died...for good! It has been nothing but problems since pretty much day one...so needless to say i am not in the market for a DELL.

    Here is what i need:

I do a lot of work in AutoCAD and some other 3D design programs...so it need to be able to handle those.

It needs to have at at least a 15 inch monitor...anything smaller makes doing CAD painful...lol.

Other then that my computer is for personal and home use. I would like to keep the price below $1,000 if that is possible.

Someone give me some suggestions and or tips ...because i really know nothing about buying a computer.

  • Need some help with word/ phrase substitutions?

OK, so i am nearing the end of my senior thesis...and yesterday i discovered an issue..well my mentor discovered the issue.

It is a research paper so i referenced a bunch of studies, and what i did notice that i did was use the phrase "through studies it has been found" or "studies show" or "in a study done by..."

I think i did that like 20+ times!! I need to figure out some more "scholarly" ways to phrase that my mentor tells me...

    Anyone have any ideas????????????????

  • Problem with my vet and $$$?

Last week my dog became very ill. I took him to my vet and over the course of the next few days it was determined that he had a very bad parasite in his lungs. It is fairly rare and they needed to order the medication because they do not keep it in stock. When he was first diagnoed i asked them to give me a cost estament on the treatment, and they did.

So the meds came in yesterday and i took my dog up there today to start his treatment. I dropped him off and headed out. About 4 hours later i get a call from the vet...they said they needed to go over the cost of the medication and the treatment. Keep in mind they have my dog and were supposed to have started treatment at 9am. They told me that the price of the medication was going to be different because the quote they gave me did not take into account the size of my dog (he is 42lbs) so he is not by any means a BIG dog. So my bill jumpped $600!!!!!! i will not even go into what the total is. I told them to go ahead with the treatment because i knew my dog was not getting better and waiting another week to order this medication from another place would not be good.

But i am really upset about this. If they had called me earlier in the week and told me that there was going to be a price change then OK, people make mistakes...but to hold off till after he is there...and he treatment was to have already started...i mean come on what was i supposed to do, i love my dog and want him better!!!

The treatment for this paracite is going to take a few months...my question how do i deal with this when i know they they will be dealing with my dog on a pretty frequent basis in the following months???

  • Has anyone seen the movie TAKEN??

So my mom wants to see a movie and suggested Taken. I have heard that it ends bad and i have heard that it ends good. my mom loves action adventure thrillers...but hates it when they end bad.

So my question is...Does the move end with a fairly OK ending? Like something you can feel somewhat good about? I know its a dark movie..and so does she. But there is nothing else out that the two of us have any interest in seeing.

    So....ending OK? or bad ending?

  • What to do about potential houseguests?

So one of my good friends from long long ago (last time i saw him was about 12 years ago) wants to come for a visit. We reconnected over Facebook and have been communicating for quite some time. He mentioned wanting to get out of town and come to my town for a long weekend (it would be a 6 hour drive).

I would love to see him and catch up, but there is a bit of a problem. He has 2 kids (ages 7 and 8) which he plans on bringing...and that is totally fine, but then he mentioned bringing his dog...ummm...ok. And he wants to stay at my house!! I have a rather large house, but no guest room (it is currently an art studio), i have a roommate, AND i have 5 pets of my own (3 cats and 2 dogs who don't all get along to start with). The only place for them to sleep would be the living room, and that would offer no privacy for anyone. He says that is OK, but I am not really OK with that. So my question is....

How do i go about telling him that i would love to see him and his kids...and heck, even the dog....But i just do not feel i have the room for all parties involved... politely. I know there are some reasonable accommodations very close to my home that take dogs but how do i ask him to spend the money on that after he drove 6 hours to see me?

I would offer to pay for the hotel myself, but i just wrote a few GIANT checks today and do not really have the money for that right now.

Help!!! I am sooooo bad at this stuff....
