Please help me pick a hair color?

I'm really considering dying my hair but am really scared because it's been years since I last did. My natural hair color is dark brown with a lot of red in it. My skin is olive complexioned to light...I tan in the summer and get lighter the rest of the year. I'm Latina and worried that if I dye it lighter people might think I'm trying to whitewash myself...is that the general perception? It needs to look fairly natural as I'm a teacher (and I'm also an administrative candidate and need to make a good impression). My husband has always wanted me to go blond...don't feel comfortable going too light but maybe as light as a dirty blond (my son's hair color is medium blond). Any feedback is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!

  • I did a compatibility chart and half of the points are positive half are negative, what does this mean?

I put in both of our birth dates and places of birth and this is what I got...do we stand a chance? Would it be too difficult?

    -136 Square Mercury - Mars

Negative aspect: They can interrupt each other often. Problems can arise when one or the other finds their partner too blunt or too critical. When involved in a conversation, they can compete for the microphone.

    116 Conjunction Mars - Uranus

Positive aspect: Favorable for union, linking originality to initiative and decision-making.

    -98 Square Mars - Jupiter

Negative aspect: They have good intentions towards each other, but they often promise more than they can deliver. They make big plans that often fail to be realized. When one person wants to spend "together time", the other feels restless and dreams of being somewhere else. Freedom versus closeness is a conflict that arises often in this relationship.

    -92 Square Venus - Pluto

Negative aspect: A very strong passion but destructive, to be avoided if at all possible. Jealousy, possessiveness, and resentment are very possible. If the relationship ends, it is difficult to remain friends, as one person feels burned.

    86 Trine Venus - Mars

Positive aspect: This is a union that is particularly based on physical understanding, passionate love. There is a lot of affection between them, and they need to express it physically. Plenty of attraction here.

    -75 Opposition Venus - Venus

Negative aspect: Their styles in expressing love, and their preferred way to receive love, are at odds. This can be a real nuisance because there can be a lot of misunderstandings and wasted energy trying to explain oneself.

    63 Sextile Venus - Uranus

Positive aspect: Union or love will be very strong, not at all intellectual, but sensual and full of romanticism and originality.

    49 Trine Mercury - Saturn

Positive aspect: If Mercury is looking for a mother or father in the spouse, then this aspect is very favorable. Saturn will give a lot on the intellectual level and in life in general.

    32 Trine Jupiter - Pluto

Positive aspect: A possible union. Your belief systems change and evolve as the result of your relationship. Look at the other aspects to interpret exactly.

  • Teachers, what does your significant other do for work?

So, I'm a 25 year old teacher (2nd year) and I'm starting to date. I want to date an intelligent man and I'm getting quite a few interested men but many who are in their mid to late twenties don't have a career yet or only have a 'job'. They seem smart but I feel a little strange about dating a guy who is either, still a student, or working in customer service as a tech (for example). I like stability and financial security and for a guy to make much less than I do turns me off a little bit. I'd ideally date a man with a comparable career or who at least is headed in that direction. So...

Teachers, what does your significant other do for a living? If you earned more money and were more formally educated than your boyfriend/spouse, did this create any issues? Thanks a bunch!

  • My mother and grandmother interfering or helping raise my son?

Okay so my husband is out of the picture and I am trying to raise my 15 month old son. It's hard to work full time and take care of a toddler on top of that so I rely heavily on my family. He is taken care of by my grandma while I'm at work and my mom also helps when she's home (the 'rents and g'rents live together).

The problem is that my son's upper teeth are decaying...I think this is because we give him milk bottles at night. I've wanted to give him water instead but they lash out and say, "Why don't you try drinking cold water in the middle of winter?!" they also insist on giving him sugary juice because according to them it has lots of fruit nutrients. I'm wanting to give him more water.

Another major contention is the issue of bedtime. :( Whenever we spend the night at my mom's house they will not support me in setting a bedtime or putting him to bed before he starts crying or fussing due to tiredness. They say I have to wait until he's really tired to put him to bed. Usually when we're over there he won't go to bed until 1 or 2 am! At my apartment it will be more between 11-12, still a night owl but better.

Third issue...because we live in an apartment by ourselves and it's considerably harder to wake him up and take him to their house in the morning before work, they insist on us sleeping at their house. This, I believe, messes with his sleep schedule as he goes to bed late and wakes up late at around 10 or 11 am. When I take him to our apartment on workdays I need to wake him up at 7:00 am. My mom and grandma then give me hell because they say he gets cranky until he takes a nap at around noon or 1 so they say I should just stay at their house so he can get to sleep until he wants to wake up. Arrrgh! I figure that if I put him on a regular schedule where he wakes up at 7:00 each weekday and has to go to bed by 8 or 9 he should get used to this routine with time. I am also only to give him baths at their house and if he bathes that night they say I can't take him out anywhere, including my apartment. :'(

Fourth issue...junk food. He's not eating his vegetables! Instead of letting him wait until he's hungrier, they prefer to appease him with white bread, fruit loops, cookies, etc. They give him cake and other really sugary stuff. If I try to give him apple bits they get mad and say he's going to choke on them.

What do I do? If I disagree with them and voice my opinion they get mad and treat me like sh*t the whole night. Tonight I told my sis firmly not to give him cocoa puffs and she did anyway. When I told her again to stop, my mom snapped at me. I replied that I was his mother and that if I didn't want him eating something my wishes had to be respected. She wouldn't look after him the whole night and if he did the littlest naughty thing (like pick up the remote) she'd yell, "Will this boy's MOTHER please take care of him?!" How should I respectfully and firmly set limits with them as to how raise my son?

  • What do I do now? I cheated while my husband was in rehab but I want to end it.?

Here's some history: I was with my husband for 2 years and got married despite him displaying strange behavior. Three months later I got pregnant and things went downhill. He was leaving me alone at night and sneaking off, not wanting to go to work and lying about being sick, didn't want to have any accounts together, only taking calls outside, etc. I thought he was cheating on me. He was a total jerk during the entire pregnancy, lost his job, did nothing to help me etc. Fast forward, my son is born and he's a terrible father and husband who leaves me with all the responsibility of having to work full time and having to care for our child. 3 months after our son was born he got caught for a DUII and got put in a holding cell so I had to go get him out. He totally lied about the charges and says he was just drowsy on his sleeping meds (a lie). He was doing cocaine at this point since his oxys were too expensive. Finally one night he called me up and confessed that ever since a few months after we met he'd been doing drugs. I never in my life did any drugs and was a genuine 'good girl' so this devastated me.

I chose to support his recovery. Since then he's been in three programs and he managed to cheat the system and keep with his addiction to a smaller extent. He's had many relapses since then but I am never the type to act without having proof. When I did catch him in June I kicked him out. He's been living with his parents since and even before that I'd kick him out and he'd come back after a couple weeks so really since Nov. '09 he hasn't been living with us. About two months ago he said we should reintegrate living together slowly. For a month and a half he only came 1-2 nights some weeks he did 3-4. I suspected though that he was still snorting sleeping pills. Three weeks ago he was coming for Hanukkah but apparently he made a fake prescription and tried to use it and got caught. We didn't know where he was for a whole day until he got to call his step dad. He was faced with either jail or rehab. This past Wednesday he left for a rehab in Utah that specializes in young adults with both addiction and psychological problems.

I just have lost hope that he will ever stop trying to trick people into thinking that he's okay and that it's just me imagining things. He was starting to make improvements but after this last time I just feel so let down by him. After a year and a half he's still got no job and isn't really there for me. I asked him for a divorce several times and he won't grant me one and I'm too in debt to hire a lawyer. Plus, I'm a teacher and if they look at my income I won't qualify for help. He knows he's got me because of the pocketbook. I think he is a nice guy who has a lot of problems but I got sick of his lies and I'm almost sure he's cheated on me before, I don't know why.

Anyway, I did the unthinkable, what I never thought I would do. I cheated on him less than a week after he left. I was so pissed that he'd let me down by everything he's done that I gave in and cheated even though I knew it was wrong. I did it once but the other man was a virgin and he had some anxiety so we met again the next night. I wasn't wanting a relationship yet but he now wants to keep meeting me and wants to be my friend. It kills me because I also wasn't looking for an affair or even friendship. I am starting to just feel guilty for my actions but I don't know what to do next. I had talked to my husband about me wanting to date other men to see what 'normal' men were like and to make a decision as to whether I really wanted to stay with him but he said if I did that then he would too. It hurt to hear that but I thought it was fair and said yes but he never took it seriously and so I didn't really pursue that. Did I really cheat? I am confused as to what I want. I don't feel the same about him anymore though I know I still care about him very much. He will be over there another 2 or 3 months. I hope he changes but even so not sure if we are right for each other since I have some major trust issues with his addiction now. And now I'm wondering how to or if I should tell him and how and how to stop this budding affair with the other man. He texts me all the time and is very sweet. To him I am a goddess and he treats me very well but I feel bad about this. What advice do you have for me? Please don't tell me I'm a whore or a skank, I'm not. I just haven't had a husband for almost two years and I made a mistake.

  • HELP! Elem. teaching interview and need a 10 min. lesson plan...?

I just graduated yesterday and am endorsed in 3rd-8th grade. While I can technically teach the upper elementary grades, I feel most comfortable with middle school lang. arts and social studies. I have an interview in front of an 8-person panel for next week for Spanish Immersion. I have been informed to present a 10 min. lesson for elementary in any subject. I need help with suggestions as I haven't been in an elem. classroom in quite a few months. I also have limited resources and it should be completely in Spanish. NOTE: I am not teaching Spanish, rather, teaching elem. subjects IN Spanish. Please help me come up with a short and interactive mini-lesson?

  • We were totally wrong...it's a boy. What do you think of this name?

So we had decided on Leila Aimeé for our daughter but as it turns out, we're having a son! My husband and I are both Jewish, he is from a Polish/Russian/Ukrainian background and I come from a Mexican/Spanish/German background. We would like for our son's name to reflect our combined hertitages and are raising him to be trilingual in Spanish/English/Hebrew.

The name we like is Ariel David Yaroslavsky as is both Spanish and Hebrew but can also be said in English. The only problem is that in the U.S. it can be considered a girl's name. In Spanish speaking countries it is ONLY male and in Israel too. Do NOT tell me it is a girl's name as I know its origin! I just want to know if this is a name he could live with in the U.S. or if you think the teasing would be too horrible. It is pronounced 'Ah-ree-ehl' and means 'Lion of G-d'. Let us know what you think!

  • When my baby is born, do we have to designate an ethnicity on the paperwork?

My husband is the typical American...a mix of everything but he essentially looks white. I am Mexican-with a fmedium-dark mother with 'white' features and a father (also Mexican) who is white, light brown hair, and green eyes. Although I'm light and sometimes misidentified as 'white' by people (at hospitals, cops, etc), what does that make our child? Wouldn't he technically be labeled Hispanic? I am sick and tired of people trying to label everyone and I wish I didn't have to specify what my son is.

At my pre-natal appointment, the nurse asked me what my ethnicity I was. I was confused...I tried explaining that my husband was Caucasian and she cut me off and asked me what my nationality was. I told her Mexican and she said, "Okay, Hispanic." Why do they need this information? Is she going to classify my son as Hispanic? Would he be 'bi-racial' (even though Hispanic is obviously not a race)? I'm am really confused. Your thoughts on this???

  • What do you think of the name Leila Aimée for a baby girl?

I think we're having a girl so we're trying to finalize name possibilities. We're aiming for names that will be easily pronounced in different languages. Aimée would be pronounced ah ee meh. Loved it when I heard it pronounced in Spanish. I'm a Mexican Jew and hubby is an American Jew if that helps. Our last name is Yaroslavsky. Would it sound nice?

  • Would you show the film, A Knight's Tale in school?

I'm currently a 7th Grade Social Studies Student Teacher and we're learning about the Middle Ages. When I showed them short clips from the movie, the kids were laughing hysterically and asked if I could show all of it. Tomorrow we have an activity day (shorter classes) and a dance during the last hour of the school day. I doubt I can get them to focus much in class...should I show them the film? If you're a kid around this age, would you think it's related to what you'd be learning in the class or that your teacher's being lazy?

  • Question for speakers of Arabic...Leila or Laila?

Okay, I am trying to come up with possible baby girl names just in case my baby is a girl...we're waiting for the day of the delivery to find out. I love the name Leila but I want to know the proper pronunciation of this name in Arabic. Does it sound like lay-la (Leila is how I would spell it if so) or is it like "night" in Hebrew, Lie-la? Thanks!

Also, does anyone know if there is a connection between the meaning of this name, "night" and the Torah Matriarch Leah? I believe they are totally different etymology but husband was wondering.

  • I'm concerned about my husband I found this message on his phone...could it be drugs?

So my husband lost his cell and we were looking for it. While he was down in the car I tried dialing from my cell and I found it buzzing in the closet. It said he had a message waiting which I thought I had sent him and opened it. It wasn't mine, instead he had a message that said, "I got some 40's if ya still need." The question is, what could this mean? He's been acting funny and takes a lot of prescription meds that he gets from his dr. for anxiety but I get the feeling that if what he was taking was legal, he wouldn't be asking his friend for these 40's. Tonight he was very slow in his speech and just generally slow in doing anything. Please help? What should I do? I still have his phone and sent a text message back asking for price and more info hoping this would soon solve my question. What would you do?

  • Should I tell our families about my pregnancy for Christmas?

So I am currently 6 weeks along. I'm almost 23 y.o., very healthy, and this would be my first pregnancy. I started getting symptoms before my missed period and I now have started to get 'sick'...which statistically is correlated with successful pregnancies. I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, and have stopped drinking anything with caffeine (since I suspected around time of ovulation), also no heavy exercise. Our parents, my grandma, siblings, friends, and coworkers all know. I want to tell our extended families, which we're close to, and my husband's immediate family on Christmas (for our non-Jewish family members) but husband says to wait after the 1st trimester. I really don't want to wait as I feel having their support and having them share my joy is important to me. I would be 8 weeks along, what should we do?

  • Need opinion about baby boy's name?

My husband and I are deciding to go on with my pregnancy (for those who know my story). It's too early to tell the sex but I have a feeling it will be a boy. We are Jewish btw and I really do not want a common/popular name for my child. There's too many Michaels, Jacobs, and Jordan, my husband's name, has been turned into a unisex name (which I do not like). I was considering the names Liam, Jonah, Jonas, Elijah, Eliyahu, Moshe, or Levi. I'm a little hesitant to go with the original Hebrew names because people might have trouble with spelling and pronunciation...what do you think of these names?

  • Would I be hired to teach if I was pregnant? Would be due in early August and school starts in Sept.?

I am almost certain that I am pregnant and would be due on Aug. 8th. My husband wants me to 'take a pill' and terminate the pregnancy which I am against. He uses the argument that I will not be able to get a job and that if I do, I won't be able to spend much time with our newborn. We're having big issues but I really don't want to abort (even if I only just missed my period). I am a Mexican born Jewish woman who is multilingual and have very good people in the district who would be willing to vouch for me. I also will be graduating from a highly reputable university and be a valueable candidate/teacher. The problem is that I will be BIG while I am interviewing with schools and will be just fresh out of college. What are your recommendations? Do you think I will be offered a job? And if so, do you think I could handle both tasks? My grandmother might be able to care for my child while I work. If my husband continues to push for abortion, what should I do? I'm considering just leaving and having this child for myself without asking for his support, emotional or financial. Thanks everyone.

  • Should I take the pill or let pregnancy take it's course? I need help!?

I have now gotten two out of three HPT that were faintly positive and I have a lot of early pregnancy symptoms. I would be due for my AF tomorrow. I told my husband and he says it is not the right time for a child. He is saying that at this point it doesn't have much 'energy' and is not conscious yet and not meant to be. Ideally we would have planned on having our first child a year from now due to our specific circumstances. I am a student teacher and will be looking for job after graduation. If I decided to keep with the pregnancy I would have the baby just 2-3 weeks before starting to teach next schoolyear. We both do not believe in having abortions ourselves but where we differ is he doesn't consider terminating a two-week old embryo an abortion, while I do. What would you do in our situation? Any help appreciated.

  • Wondering if this is possible implantation?

I'm TTC and my first day of my period was Oct.30th with my expected period being Nov.30th. My husband and I had sex a few times during ovulation but I am especially hopefulof the day before. Since ovulation, I started feeling cramps that did not go away at all since. (ovulated on Nov.15th), which is not normal for me. Usually I cramp a bit during ovulation then a couple days before AF. Besides the light cramping, yesterday when I wiped I saw a strange little drop of red blood. That was all and no more after that. Could implantation bleeding be just a tiny drop? Also, BabyMed says that if you think you've experienced implantation bleeding you could test for pregnancy. Would you in your experience advise me to test tonight or should I wait a few more days until my missed period. Four days to go till I'm due. Thanks!

  • Marriage and Finances-He wants luxury and I don't?

I am 22 and my fiance is 25 and are planning on getting married this summer. He has been at the same job for a few years and makes about $42K, I am in college with 1 yr. to go until I become a teacher and only make about $11,000 working part-time. I'd rather have a joint account when married but because I will be about $7,000 in debt from school, etc when I graduate he prefers to have separate accounts. When talking about the distant future, he wants to be making a couple hundred thousand a year and living in a 'million dollar home' leading a comfortable life. I grew up in a poor immigrant family and distrust people that have luxuries but he assures me that he would also be contributing to charity. Still, I feel uneasy, I don't want a 'luxurious' life, just a nice little house-easy to clean and maintain, he says we could later afford a maid- I just want a modest life where I don't worry about $ and give to those less fortunate. Could our marriage work with these different visions?
