  • Getting dog pee stains and smells out of linoleum flooring?

Hey we are ripping up the carpet in our bedroom and replacing it with new flooring and the people that we bought our house from had a dog that was older and it urinated on the carpet in our bedroom a lot of times. We could not get rid of the dog pee smell that is why we are getting new floors. Under our carpet is linoleum flood we are going to put the new flooring over that does anyone know how to get the dog pee smell off the linoleum floor? What should we use to clean it? We are hoping we do not have to rip that up too. If you have any ideas please let us know! Thanks!!

  • home study portion of adoption?

We are at the point in our adoption journey that the home studies are going to be happening. We have a question that hopefully someone can answer. We know that you can not pass the home study if your house is under construction how ever we are wondering if you are ripping out carpet and replacing it with laminate wood floors in only our bedroom (the living room is already done) if that counts as construction? We have not ripped up the carpet yet how ever were thinking about doing it very soon. The bedroom that the child will be in is carpeted and that carpet was new when we moved in. The reason that we replaced the carpet in our living room and why we are going to be taking out the carpet in our bedroom is that they were not replaced when we moved in the house (2 years ago) because we were getting a puppy and did not want to take out the old carpet until she was potty trained. So we replaced the carpet in the living room with laminate wood floors a few months ago and are now getting ready to do the floors in our bedroom. But when we rip out the carpet we are going to have to paint over any old pee spots with this sealant stuff and we can only do half of the room at a time and it needs at least a week to dry before putting the new floor over it so that will be 2 weeks worth of drying. So if the carpet being torn up counts as construction we are just going to rent a carpet cleaner and clean the carpet really good and wait until after the home study to tear up the carpet. If you have been through anything similar or know what they consider construction please let me know! Thank you!

  • adoption scrap book.....???

For those of you who have adopted a child or are going to be adopting a child did you have to make an adoption scrap book? We are adopting from foster care and we are just starting the process but we need to make an adoption scrap book so that when we are matched with a child the child can look at the pictures before they meet us. We will be starting ours this weekend and are wondering what others put in theirs. This is what we are so far going to be putting in ours. First is going to be pictures of my husband and I together and a few wedding pictures. Then there are going to be just pictures of me alone including baby pictures and so on and then pictures of just my husband with his baby pictures. And then we are going to be putting pictures of our family and friends with pictures of our parents and grandparents, brother/sisters, nieces and nephews we both have pictures of our families including cousins and so on that were taken about a year ago and then we will be adding pictures of close friends. We will also be adding pictures of our cabin up north and our families vacation house. We also will be adding pictures of our house including pictures of the inside of our house and what will be their bedroom. We are going to have a page with pictures of our dogs. Also a page with things near our house like parks and so on. We are going to make a page that has pictures of things we like to do like hiking, dog sledding, camping, going to the beach. And pages from some of our recent vacations. And then we are going to have some pictures of us having fun and being silly, Not in that order but we are looking for some more ideas how did you set your book up? What did you have in it? What order was it in? About how many pictures did you add? We have tons of pictures of us with our nieces and nephews we take them to do a lot of fun things and love to spend time with them. We have 131 pictures to print that are on our computer and a bunch more in photo books. We just do not have any clue how long this book should be. The child we will be adopting will be between the ages of 1-6. Thanks for any help you can give us!

  • Why do people adopt????????????????????????????????

Why do people adopted internationally instead of locally? We are just starting the process to adopt a child through the foster care system (a child ages 1-6) and I just do not understand why people would adopt a child from another country when there are so many in our own country that need a good loving home?

  • Do your same sex children share their underwear?

I am just wondering because in our house all of the kids laundry is done together so its hard to have their own (the two girls are close in age and the two boys are close in age) so we pretty much just have girls underwear and boys underwear and they also all share socks. If your kids do then how old were they when they stopped. I never even thought anything about it until someone was talking about how their teen girls still share underwear and I thought that was kind of odd. Thanks to any one who answers!!

  • Adopting from foster care?

We just started the process of adopting a child from foster care. We are thinking of adopting a child ages 1-4 does any one know how long it will take for us to be matched with a child? I know you can only give a guess but we are just wondering. At first we were going to do 3-8 but have decided to try and get a younger child because I will be stayed at home with them and we think that the bonding time will be important and that way the child will not be in school yet and if they are 4 and in preschool it will only be half day so I will have a lot of time to spend with him or her. How old were the children you adopted and how long did it take for them to be matched with you? Also wondering if we will get a placement faster because I will be a stay at home mom? Thanks!

  • What happens during a female physical exam?

I have to get a physical exam because we are going to be adopting a child from the foster system and they require you to get a physical before adopting. I am just wondering what I should expect from the physical? My doctor is a male and I have only seen him once before. I have had physicals before but they were at a different doctors office and I have not had one since I was 18 (I had one every year for sports and so on). He is just a regular doctor and I would not feel comfortable taking my cloths off in front of him because I do not know him very well. Do they do a breast and pelvic exam when you get a physical or are they two totally different exams? I would rather go to my gyno for the breast and pelvic exam but I am not sure you even need that for adoption reasons? Any ways if you have any idea please let me know! Thanks!

  • When adopting a child from the foster care system, what does the child come with?

We just started the process of adopting a child from the foster care system. We are not matched with a child yet but we are just wondering what the child would come with? From your experience how much cloths and so on? We are going to set aside some extra money now to take them and get new cloths and new toys and so on we are just trying to figure out what we will need to have a head of time. Thanks!!

  • Adopting a Child that has a different ethnic background then yourself?

We are in the process of adopting a child from the foster care system. To us the child's ethnic background doesn't matter in the sense of them being our child. But we want them to know about where they came from and know a lot about their heritage. I am wondering how other people went about this. Did you use books and find groups for your child to join? We do not know what background our child will have yet but we want to be prepared with lots of ideas :). So if you have adopted a child with a different ethnic background then your self and can give us some ideas about how we can make their heritage a part of our life please let me know! Thanks!

  • spotting for four days but neg hpt?

Hey I want to know some opinions on my situation. I was supposed to get my period on the 20th.

On the 17th I had spotting so I figured I was going to get my period. But it stopped and did not start spotting around until the next night. Then it stopped and did not start until around noon the next day and then the following day there was some light spotting. The whole time it was only a little bit and only when I wiped never did it get on the pad... and after that there has been nothing. I took two hpts this weekend one on friday and one on saturday and they were both neg. Do you think I could be pregnant or was it just a weird period? My husband and I were trying to get pregnant for a few months then had a miscarriage and tried for a few more months then decided to just not think about it. We are busy with other things and if it happens it happens. I just do not want to waste money on more hpts if it was most likely just a weird period. I have never had a period like that before they are usually light the first day then very heavy for two days then light for another day or two. I am just confused.... please give me your opinion and let me know if you have every gone through anything like this. Thanks!! On and I am 24 if that makes a difference.

  • Whats the toughest dog toy that you have bought?? (my husky seems to tear all of her toys up)?

What are the toughest and strongest dog toys you have found? My husky rips apart most toys. She has nylabones and loves balls. She also loves tug toys bed tends to chew those apart too. She is not a big fan of kongs unless we put peanut butter in them how ever she does not play with them other wise. Thanks!
