  • How do I keep my steer from getting bored?

I have just one 4-H steer because one died, sadly. It's been over a month now, but my existing steer, Percy, is very bored now all the time. I keep him entertained when I'm home, but I work during the day and I feel bad for how bored he is all the time.

Any suggestions of something I can do/give him to keep him happy? He already is in a field with all the grass he could want, and he has plenty of hay all day long as well.

I thought of maybe a horse toy - those big balls that hang from a tree, maybe he could headbutt it. Thoughts?

  • Is it okay to give my steer both Ivermectin and Corid?

I de-wormed my steer with Ivermectin pour-on a few days ago as a preventative measure, but this morning he has bloody scours, so I'm thinking he needs to be treated with Corid.

Are there any issues with combining these two?

    Thank you!

  • Does ringworm leave white marks on cattle?

I have an Angus 4-H steer who had ringworm before I got him but has long since recovered. As he sheds his winter coat, I'm noticing a few white circles on his body. They are rings, black in the middle. He is a pure Angus, so it's not a strange marking from a different breed that's in him.

I was just wondering if these marks are from the ringworm he previously had or if they're something else.

    Thanks!

  • Any tips for fitting an Angus show steer?

Hi, I am a 4-H member. This will be my fourth (and last, I'm a senior in high school!) year raising steers for 4-H. In the past, I have always raised Herefords/black baldys, but I wanted a challenge this year, so I chose to raise Angus.

When fitting my Herefords for show, I always clipped them a little on the long side, leaving the hair even longer on their hips and rumps in order to cover flaws and I left the face very long. I also did the classic ratted and hair sprayed Hereford tail. I know that Angus are fitted differently - their entire body is clipped closely to showcase their muscularity, and their heads hardly have any hair left at all. I also know that the tail is generally not ratted like a Hereford.

Does anyone have any tips for me in fitting an Angus steer?

Do Angus cattle have any characteristic weaknesses that need to be hidden by grooming (such as a Hereford's narrow rump being combed the opposite direction to make it look wider)?

    Thanks so much!

  • Are there adapters for Nikon 1 cameras and DX lenses?

Hi, I'm a Nikon D5000 user, and I've recently been drooling over the new Nikon 1 cameras. I haven't been able to find anything myself, so I thought I'd ask some fellow photography lovers if they know of an adapter to use DX lenses on a Nikon 1 camera and vice versa.

Also, is the Nikon 1 considered a 4/3 camera? Can you use other 4/3 lenses on it?

    Thanks! :)

  • How do I train my steer not to walk so close?

This is my third year raising steers in 4-H and it is the first time I've had this problem. My steer likes to walk really close to me with his head down. He walks so closely that he steps on my feet. I can get him to hold his head up, but then he walks even closer and tries to circle in on me. I can't yank the chain on his halter because that would just make him want to hold his head closer to me and lower. Do you know of any tricks to keep him from doing this? Thanks!

  • What would a virus do to your body if you did not fight it off?

So, from my knowledge, all of the symptoms of a cold or flu come from your body fighting the virus off. Things like fever, sore throat, and vomiting are all ways your body tries to rid itself of viruses, but they are also the things that make us so miserable when we do get sick. So my question is, what if your body did not fight the virus off? Would the virus just take over ever cell in your body and eventually kill you? What would happen?

    Thank you!

  • Why does my steer have numb/stiff legs?

I have two 4-H steers. One is completely normal, but the other is extremely lazy. He is always laying down. He even throws his hay on the ground so that he can hold his head low to eat it.

The problem I'm finding is that when he's been laying down for a long time and gets up, he acts like his front legs are bothering him, like they're numb or stiff or something. After he stands and walks for a minute or so, he's fine, but he acts like he's in so much pain for those first few seconds.

Does anyone know what could be wrong with him or if there's anything I can do to help him?

    Thank you!

  • I just lost 50 pounds, but I'm not done. New clothes?

Well, I just lost 50 pounds, but I need to lose about that much again. My clothes are not fitting very well, but I don't want to go and buy all new clothes that I'm just going to shrink out of.

Also, I'd like to change my style. I'm tired of wearing t-shirts and jeans every day. Should I do it now, or wait and do it as a reward for myself when I've lost the rest of the weight I want to lose?

Should I get new clothes now, or just tighten my belt and keep wearing my baggy jeans? Should I change my style now, or wait 'till the weight is gone?

    Thank you!

  • Do you think I did the right thing?

My neighbor's cats had a chipmunk, and were torturing it. The poor little thing was just sitting there, breathing quickly, not moving, while the cats sat beside him. If he tried to run away, one of them would pick him up in their mouth, move him back, and sit by him. They were not trying to kill him or play with him, just sitting there.

I felt bad for the little guy, and could see no injuries on him. (I figured he was just sitting there because he was in shock or so scared). So I picked the two cats up and let the chipmunk run away. I put the cats down only after he was up a tree. I did not touch him. I looked at the chipmunk in the tree, only to see that his shoulder is bleeding, and now I feel terrible. Maybe I should have just let the cats have him, they would have killed him eventually, right?

I hope he heals and does alright, but now I feel like maybe I shouldn't have interfered. What do you think I should have done?

  • Why is my iPod showing the wrong cover art and how can I fix it?

This happens even when I go into my cover flow. Is there a quick and painless way I can fix it? I'd like not to restore the iPod to its original conditions, because it will take forever to re-upload my songs to it. I buy all my songs from iTunes or upload them from CDs. None are illegally downloaded.

My iPod is a Nano gen. 5, the newest one, with video capabilities.

I have tried doing a reset (holding sown the center and menu buttons until the apple button appears), but it didn't help.

    Please, please help me!

    Thanks!

  • Does anyone know of a good, free video editing software?

I'd like to edit some videos, and I have a new laptop with Windows 7. Apparently, Windows 7 does not come with Windows Movie Maker.

Does anyone know of a good editing software I can download for free? I want something reliable. I don;t want any viruses or crap on my computer. I want it to be from a site I've heard of, please. Thanks!

  • Will the lens off a Canon EOS Rebel X fit a digital Canon SLR?

http://www.betterphoto.com/reviews/reviewItemDetai... That's the camera. More specifically, will it fit a Canon T1i?

  • Are there any significant differences between the Canon T1i and the Canon T2i?

I know the T2i has more megapixels and better HD video, but other than that, are there really any differences?

  • What camera brand do you like best and why?

I know, this is, for the most part, a matter of opinion.

I am looking into getting my first DSLR. I consider myself more advanced than an amateur, but not a professional. I have shot with DSLRs, and I fell in love.

Most of the photos I take are family, friends, and pets. I also do quite a bit of wildlife. I love macro, but my current cameras are not the best for that.

I am looking for a camera that I can use now, and that will also be useful to me as I progress in my photography skills. I don't want to "grow out" of this camera anytime soon. I am a high school student, and can not afford to upgrade constantly.

This is a big decision for me because this is the brand I will be buying into. My plan is to get a camera with a few lenses, and add more lenses as I go on. When I'm ready for a more advanced camera, I will buy in the same brand and be able to keep my lenses. I do not plan on upgrading very often, as I said before. So I'd like a brand that is not likely to change the way lenses are mounted for a long time, so I can continue to use the same lenses, even when I upgrade the body.

    Things I'm looking for:

    -Fast shutter capabilities

    -Camera I can grow with

    -Lots of lens options

    -Ability to use a remote

    -Hookup for bigger flash

    -Reliable brand

-Affordable (I know, you get what you pay for. This is kinda an option. I don't want to invest $30,000 into a camera, but I;m willing to save up long enough to get a camera with everything I need)

-The more megapixels, the better. At least 10

Please tell me your favorite brand and why it is your favorite brand. Please be very descriptive, this is a huge decision for me, I want to make the right choice.

Thank you everyone! I know all your answers will be great. This is going to be such a tough decision

  • Should I go ahead and get a professional camera?

I'm very interested in photography, and I'm wanting to be able to dore more. So, I think I'm ready for a DSLR. I'm really trying to decide if it would be better for me to save up and get a nice entry-level DSLR or to save up for a little longer and go for a professional DSLR. Does it really make that much difference? This is a huge investment, especially after you figure in lenses, extra batteries, etc. I want to make the right choice. Thanks!
