Question for musicians? I... I just need help...?
Hey, I'm so discouraged... I've played music growing up as a kid, and I grew up around some really great musicians.. I was basically spoon fed when it came to musical inspiration. But a few years ago... I migrated with my family (at age 16). I thought it would have been a great opportunity for me to move and expand on my knowledge of music in the U.S but...it didn't turn out the way i thought it would've been. After a few sad circumstances...over a 2 year period..... I couldn't manage to pick up an instrument. I own a guitar and every time i tried to pick it up... i get so discouraged i have to stare at it and put it down. Every time i look on my facebook newsfeed, i see my peers developing their talents, getting better and better, while I'm here being bombarded by my emotions... being stagnant. All these things add up and every time i try to play.... i can't. I don't even know what my question is anymore...I'm 18 now, studying engineering... trying to find happiness in success... but every time i think about my musical past i can't even study. I'm suppose to be studying now... but I'm on Yahoo Q&A... I know you'd probably say "Do what makes you happy".... but that is not the case, i think. The moving damaged me.... the fact that i can't play like before damages me... and the fact that i can't pick up the guitar to play damages me... And nothing hurts more to see your peers improve when you're going backward. ...smh
I remember, when George Duke(R.I.P) died the other day...It killed me. Not so much because of his death... but because he was one of my main influences back when I DID play....(thanks to youtube ofc)... idk what else to say. I'm not sure i make sense...
2 AnswersJazz8 years agowhat does "The probably right is preferable to the undoubtedly wrong" mean?
I'm trying to summarize an article by Paul Haupt, "The Burning Bush and the Origin of Judaism", and I've encountered some difficulty trying to understand his final argument. He states, " Every statement with regard to prehistoric periods is, of course, more or less conjectural. But I adhere to the principle that the probably right is preferable to the undoubtedly wrong. The possibility can not be denied."
I hope I provided enough context
