My boyfriend has a 2 year old daughter with his ex-wife. Currently his ex has primary physical custody, meaning his daughters main residence is with the mother. The 2 year old lives in a house with her mother, grandmother, grandfather, uncle and an unregistere daycare. the child is continuously gettting sick, including ear infections, pink eye, croupe etc... we had been told by a social worker once that an having a child in an unregistered daycare is considered a form of child abuse in Maryland however, we cannot find any information online to back this statement up. does anyone know where we can get this information in writing?

This is not necessarily a question, just a comment regarding Verizon and their business practices, and I am posting here since every time i try to access their message/blog boards it comes up with "sorry the URL you are trying to reach can not be found"

My husband and I have been Verizon wireless customers for over 5 years, I have been a verizon customer for nearly 10. Verizon's customer service never seemed to be that big of an issue - if we had a problem - the CSR would usually help up out - however in the last 3-4 years - their customer service has been declining expodentially! Firstly - when my husband I combined our plans into a family plan - we had so many problems - mainly that they were charging us for calls we should not have been charged for - calls to other verizon customers, and even calls to each other! took nearly 6 months to get that straightened out. Then when my husband upgraded his phone to one with a touch screen, the phone was horrible. you would have to press the right side of the screen to get a button on the left - even though it was calibrated correctly - so he turned the phone in for a replacement... same things were wrong with the replacement - when he asked for a completly new phone they told him he had to turn it in two more times for it to count as a defect in the product itself - so he did - running 30 minutes trips to turn the phones in. BTW - they still sell these phones with Verizon - i guess known product defects do not warrant a phone being taken off the market. Anyway - we upgraded our phones again when our plan re-newed - big mistake. My husband got another touch screen, no problems with the screen this time - except it would continually access the internet while in the case. No help from verizon on this issue - except of course - you can buy the internet data package for $29.99 a month to keep from getting those charges! - no way turn the access to the internet off of our phones please - ok sure not a problem. except the problem continued. I called again when i got my next bill and saw that there were data charges for phones that weren't even suppose to have data access ability - "oh, well the internet can be turned off of your phone, but not your husbands" but you told me it was turned off last month" I', sorry ma'am, it wasn't" this is absurb. So we take a trip down to the verizon store to complain - the man behind the desk could care less. We really don't want internet access on our phones - i tell him "well, 90% of our 3 million customers want coverage." ok so i'm screwed because I'm in the 10% that doesn't? "No comment from behind the counter" after a long pause he says at the end of this year all but a few phone will be this way - almost all will have access to the internet that can not be turned off and the internet plan will be manditory - like it is on the smart phones now (blackberry's ect.) - so you are going to make the $30 a month charge manditory on all customers the end of this year? "YES" I'm done - close my account. " well there is $100 deactivation fee for early termination." - that's fine you guys owe me nearly $300 because you charged my account twice electronically in one month. Take it out of what you owe me!

We have been with At&T for a few months now and our bill is exactly the same every month!

My son is currently 4, and misses the cut off age for kindergarten by 2 weeks. My husband and I have scheduled a meeting to have him tested for pre-k for this coming year. I am concerned by some of the questions that the "pre-k selection criteria form" is asking. Things like if we accept government assistance (WIC, welfare, food stamps, independence card ect),our housing situation (if we are in temporary housing or none at all) and,our household income. (the chart that they have asks if we gross than $39,400 for a four person home- which we do by a lot actually)

My concern is that - my son does need to learn social skills like how to act in a class room, and learn while other children are around. i would like him to learn this before he starts kindergarten. There are actually a lot of studies out there that prove, kids who attend pre-k do better in kindergarten through third grade. I'm afraid that because we make "too much money", don't collect government assistance, and because my child is not a minority he will not be selected for pre-k.

Is there anything I can do, besides simply complain to the principal? Has anyone ever gone through something like this? I think all children should be allowed to attend pre-k, not just those whose parents don't make a certain amount of money.

I have just started brining my 4 1/2 year old son to work with me. He has been here for about a week and is bored. I have converted the conference room into a playroom, with tv, dvd player, vcr, v-smile, building blocks, race cars and a bunch of other things for him to play with. We also go to the play ground near by during my lunch break, but he is still at my desk every 5 minutes saying he is bored. Can anyone give me any ideas of things he might be interested in doing??? I try to interact with him throughout the day, reading him a story or working with him on writing his letters, but he just has so much energy i can't do my work and keep up with him without going crazy. a babysitter is not an option right now.. so please don't say send him to a sitter.

Like most, my company is stuggling to make ends meet. We recently had a brainstorming meeting in order to reduce costs, and since none of us want anyone to lose their jobs we have agreed to take pay cuts. we have agreed to take the pay cut if we are able to bring our kids to work to eliminate childcare costs. My question is this.. in recent years i have claimed childcare expenses on my taxes and recieved a decent amount as a refund, if i were to bring my child to work, and take a pay cut because of that, can i claim that on my taxes? Does the office need to get a day care license and claim income on childcare in order for me to claim the paycut as childcare expenses? please help , I really do want to bring my son in, i would love to be able to spend more time with him.

Anyone else having trouble with the game? My games were working fine until i installed Apartment life, then the graphics kept glitching, then the game crashed, turned my monitor off and I could only do a hard re-boot. I have made sure all the requirements are met on my computer, and i have un-installed all my games, and re-loaded everything but AL, the game still crashes and has graphics issues. EA has no answers for me just telling me it is my computer. They wont answer my question about the differences between this expansion pack and the last ones. probably because the requirements are the same, they just added securom to AL. So anyone else have problems?

IS there a way to track your stimulus check? Based on my husbands social security number, I know that it was to be in the mail by last friday. IS there any other way to track it? Like a website that tells me that it has been mailed or not? Thanks.

I have been late on my payments for a while now, times are very hard for my family. I got a letter in the mail at the begining of the month stating that Citi card was willing to work with me and reduce my balance by a lot. All i had to do was call and talk with someone by June 12th. So I called, on June 12th at 5:30pm , when i got home from work. and was told that it was to late, that because of the time of day nothing would post to my account that day and it had already been sent to another department and that I needed to wait for them to contact me. I was willing to put money into the account but was told to hold onto it. I call today and am told that the account has been sent to collections and there is nothing i can do, i have to pay the full amount. I called by the date i was told to call on and now they are pulling out on their offer. Any ideas?

While doing some plumbing last night for my kitchen my friend and I noticed a big crack in a drain pipe from the bathroom. I had my husband run some water in the bathroom, and sure enough *GUSH*. This is not a little leak, and the crack is very visable. My home warranty does not cover the pipe because it is in a crawlspace - go figure- so what i can do about the inspector? shoul di call and try to get my money back, or even try and get them to fix it? This is my first house and I have no idea about what I can and can no do.

So i have been travelling around answering mulitple questions on yahoo answers tonight and have been overwhelmed with these teenage girls, who are pregnant or already have a baby wanting advise. In my opinion advise obviously doesn't work for them or they would have listened when everyone told them not to have unprotected sex. But anyway, i want to know that i am not the only one in this little community of semi-bloggers who think this teenage pregnancy thing is getting way out of hand. It is almost acceptable now to have a child at 17,16,15, i went to school with a girl who had a baby at 13! Where did society, America, go wrong. What do you think is making kids see having a baby as a popularity boost? 10 points to the best thought out answer!

my husband and I recently bought our first house! Yeah! It is tiny, like first houses are meant to be. It is only one level, two bedrooms, kitchen, livingroom, bath, and small mud room off the back. We are able to finish off the attic and add two room up stairs but lose a room down stairs to put steps in eventually. We are also interested in adding a basement. right now there is a dirt crawl space, where our heater, and water heater are located. the house next door to us dug out a basement years ago and I was just wonder exactly what kind of work has to be done in order to dig a basement out. Is it a lot of work? Would it be worth it in the long run? I know the house needs to be properly stablized when digging, do i need to call a professional or is this something we can do ourselves. I would really like to hear from people who have done this in the past. thank you!

so the checks are to be distributed based on the last two digits of your social security number. what about families? my huband and i do not, like many people i'm sure, have the same last two digits in our social security number. Therefore we have different dates listed for when our checks are to be mailed. So when should i expect our check to be mailed, on the date listed for his social or the one for mine? Are they mailing one check that includes our entire family (two kids as well) or will they be sending out four individual checks for each of us? just wondering how the government plans to do it. thanks.

I moved out of my rental about 3 months ago and received a bill in the mail from them stating that we owe them money.i asked for receipts showing what we were paying for and the only thing that they could provide to me was a general reciept, that did not have my previous address on it, but another rental property address, so really they can't show what went into my old property. Also they are charging us for new carpeting. here's the thing, not two months after we moved in, our neighbor flooded their house and it ran into our townhouse as well. It was actually coming from under the walls. After that we noticed spots and stains on the carpet. has anyone had trouble like this with a previouse rental? and if so what did you end up doing about it? I would like to proceed without a lawyer, because it would cost mor eto get a lawyer than we owe them. but i don't want to pay them either. ahhh

So it seems like everyone needs to save some money these days. What are some effective, new ideas, to saving money around the house? What do you re-use or do differently that can save you money? I have two kids so saving even a dollar helps. thanks.

My daughters first birthday is at the end of this month and I am throwing her a princess birthday party - not the disney princesses though. My husband and i recently bought a king sized bed, it's wonderful by the way! I am trying to decorate the rest of the room with dark wood. Currently there isn't a headboard, and I kind of like it being right up against the wall. It gives me more floor space. What are some ideas you guys have for a headboard that will keep my bed really close to the wall?

I have a small plot in the front of my house, about 6 foot by 12 foot directly infront of my house. I have nothing in it right now. It gets direct sunlight in the morning until about 1pm. I don't want to put anything to tall either because I have a window that goes almost to the ground directly behind my garden. So what plants would be good to plant this late in the summer?

I pick her up when she crys to see if she is hungry or needs a new diaper. Plus i do hold her a little and give her enough attention. But how long should i let her cry when i know nothing is wrong? She cries a fusses when she is tired to, sometimes i will hold her and rock her to sleep but i don't want her to become dependent on me to fall asleep. I've heard of self-soothing but when does it become being a bad parent?
