  • Why are birthers so obsessed with Barack Obama?

So now apparently a Army Colonel is refusing to deploy because he says Obama isn't American-born.

This has gone on long enough. Obama has provided a certificate of live birth in the state of Hawaii. Two newspapers reported the birth.

And yet, now the lawyer for this Colonel is saying "lets see the original certificate! It'd be over tonight if we see the original!" But there isn't any proof there is another certificate, there is only their ravings.

My question for birthers: why do you hate this man so much that you won't believe your own eyes, and conjure up crap about how there is supposedly another certificate? Birthers have even forged two other certificates!

  • What is the difference between 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton trucks?

Obviously they say that the 3/4 will tow and haul more than the 1/2, and the 1 ton will tow and haul more than the 3/4, but what is the actual, mechanical difference?

Frame? Springs? The size of the axles?

  • Where can I find cheap, plain sweaters?

Just like it says. I check Amazon and of course, there are sweaters from $100 and up. I'm looking for cheap, plain sweaters, size women's XL.

Anyone know of a place online that has something like this?

  • Cars with 10years/100,000miles or at least 100,000 mile warranty?

Just like the title says, what cars, sold new (2009 or 2010) have at least a 10year/100,000 mile warranty, or if not ten years, at least 100,000 miles?

So far, it seems only Hyundai and Kia offer this on anything. But I seem to remember Toyota and Honda used to offer it, yet I can't find any of their cars offering it now.

  • Why does Yahoo! want me to switch homepages and email accounts?

I've always had my browser delete cookies and history every time it closes, ever since Firefox (and later, IE) offered it.

So of course whenever I open my browser, I get Yahoo!.com, just as I have for ten years. Except, now when I get it, I always get a flyout asking for me to add "favorite sites" to the left-hand tray.

At first this was a minor inconvience, but now, a month or more on, I'm just bloody annoyed by it. I have to close the damn thing EVERY SINGLE TIME I open my homepage. Even sometimes when I navigate back it pops open again.

Why does Yahoo! want to annoy me to death? Why does it want me to switch my homepage and 4 e-mail accounts to Google.com? Why must I be punished for making Yahoo! my homepage?

  • Is Cthulhu really in Scribblenauts?

So I just saw a review of the game where the reviewer said all he did to beat any enemies in the game was summon Cthulhu. Yep, the Lovecraftian god of evil.

Is Cthulhu really in the game?

  • Sony will load in safe mode, not in normal mode, Windows XP?

So I have this older-than-god Sony VIAO. It will load up in Safe Mode, but not Normal Mode.

My first thought was corrupted registry entries for something like my Norton AntiVirus or such, so I went into MSConfig and turned off all services and startup items that were not Microsoft items. No such luck, it does the same thing it did before: it starts to load windows, gets to the Windows XP Home Edition loading screen, then the little loading bar (the rectangle with the three blue blocks in it that slide left to right) will stop in the middle of the bar.

This means it has to be a Microsoft service issue. Remember, it boots in safe mode, not in normal mode, and nothing is running except Microsoft services. What could be the issue?

  • Kumho Tires, experience?

So I'm looking at some new tires for my 08 Mazda3 and then some for a friend's 09 GT (he abhors the tires it came with, so he's replacing them out of want rather than need). When I went to tirerack.com and searched for replacement tires, Kumho Ecsta ASX tires came up for both the vehicles as the cheapest brand, several hundred cheaper than the tires that came on the cars (when looking at a set of four).

But its not just the original tires: many other brands have lower tread ratings and grip ratings too. I know UTQG ratings have a little bit of "give" in them where manufacturers can rate their tires a little less scientifically than others (or so says the link to UTQG on tirerack.com), but really, the Ecsta ASX's are rated at a 420 treadwear and with one of the better speed and weight ratings.

So my question: if you have experience with Kumho tires (even better, the tires in question), are they as good as is stated by Kumho, even though they are so incredibly cheap? Or even though the higher priced Dunlops and Pirellis are rated worse, are the Kumho's in fact less proven against wear-and-tear and/or have worse grip?

  • Java Online or Offline or ?

So I go to Java's website to download the latest Java installer for Windows Server 2003, and I see an "online" download and an "offline" download.

Whats the difference, do I need both for the full Java experience?

I'm doing a complete system wipe on my machine tomorrow, so rather than wait for it to download and install from the web, I'd just rather do an install of it from a disc (I'm putting it, and all windows updates on a disc to minimize downtime).

  • Recovery disks: do I need them for each computer?

I have four of the exact same Hewlett Packard laptops that I just purchased. Do I need to create recovery disks for each, or if I create one set of disks, will they restore all the computers?

The thing is I can take only having three to use until the discs are done, but all four? no.

And as an aside, with any computer (not just HP computers), if I build the recovery disks, will the discs work for all computers of the exact same model?

  • Actiontec Verizon FIOS Router?

I have Verizon FIOS and FIOS TV (w/HD). They put in the Optical Network Terminal and their Actiontec router. The router is, in my opinion, trash. It's only wireless G and it has very few ethernet ports.

I do have a Linksys business router w/VPN that has a 24 port ethernet switch and Wireless N. Can I just take the ethernet line out of the Actiontec router (the one between the ONT and the router) and plug it into the Linksys and everything will work just fine?

My concern is if the Actiontec router has special software in it that enables it to pull a signal from the ONT. If its just a router, I'll replace it ASAP.

  • Double DIN to DIN, possible?

I have a car that Pioneer's website says uses a DIN audio system. The trouble is, the in-dash navigation unit I want to use is Double DIN. I did some physical measuring, and the unit will actually fit within the confines of the dash (its a 5.8 wide unit, so it does fit onto a dash thats nearly ten inches across).

DIN, I'm sure, is more of a standard than a certainty, I'm guessing that the only limitation on putting a Double DIN unit in a car with a DIN sized unit currently in it is that there is a wiring issue someplace. But can a Double DIN unit fit a car that is officially being called DIN?

  • Navigation receivers from Pioneer and maps?

I'm looking at some of Pioneer's in-dash navigation units, and am liking what I see. My one concern though is about the maps: most of their units no longer require navigation discs, it says, because the maps are on flash memory. But what about updating the maps? Does that happen through some sort of automated service, or do I have to still use discs to update the maps?

Also, if I do have to manually update the maps, is there a service I can subscribe to to do it for me? I see that some of their units work with XM NavTraffic or MSN Direct, both offering real time road conditions, but what about road... availability (I'll call it)? Do either of those services update the maps themselves?

  • What is the spending power of yuppies?

Not necessarily called yuppies anymore, but the young, upwardly mobile and status-oriented crowd of people within the United States. I'm doing research on this upper-middle class segment from a marketing perspective, and whether its the total spending power of this group or just the spending power in relation to their share of the beer market, I need an answer to the question.

And yes, this is a serious question. Someone mentioned that questions like mine are gags: this one is not.

  • Building off-road vehicle, need engine and transmission, axles?

I have a 1990 Ford Bronco that is receiving a 6" Rough Country suspension lift and 35" tires. This is strictly and off road vehicle for a patch of land in the Northwest, and while it may see some on road use, its going to be used only a few times a year and when it is, it will be miles away from anything.

Problem: locating a decent engine, transmission, and some axles for the thing. I know of some shops willing to sell them to me, but none that will ship to my location out west and none that I really trust. I can find TONS of shops online willing to sell engines and transmissions but mostly they are performance pieces, not geared towards the off-road.

Anyone know of a good website (or shop with website and/or phone number and long distance shipping) that carries Ford engines, transmissions, and some good off road axles?

  • Best time to buy plane tickets?

Is it better to buy plane tickets months in advance, or closer to the last minute? This is concerning price primarily: I need to fly to LA soon and the cheaper the ticket the better. Is it wise to buy it now, or the week preceding the flight?

  • Ever get annoying questions about your job?

If you have seen some of my recent questions, you know I work at a pretty demanding place with some weird circumstances. Unfortunately my friends also use Y! Answers, so now Im getting all these questions about what I am doing in LA and the worst ones have all been the same: "Are you into drugs?"

And I keep responding: "no, my boss is a demanding person, our new customer is a weird guy, the security guard is not a Italian named Rocco."

Anyone else ever get bothered by people who, in the light of weird circumstances at work, gets stupid questions asked of them?

  • Qualifications and degrees for an investment banker?

Firstly, I'd just like to tell Yahoo! to hire more people for the tech department. I have a friend who is trying to sign in to Yahoo! answers for the first time and for 4 hours he keeps getting a "technical error" message.

Anyway, he is looking to eventually be an investment banker. He wants to know now (he is just starting school) what degree he needs to go for. Currently, he is looking into finance. Is there a better degree for this career path?
