Why don't the police use their lights and sirens?
Fire trucks use their lights and sirens, as do ambulances because it creates a safer situation on the road as it alerts other drivers to their presence. It enables people to clear a safer thoroughfare for them to pass.
Police travelling on multiple lane freeways generally do not use their safety equipment to alert other drivers of their presence and intention. Instead they tailgate other drivers and swerve through traffic. The non-use of their equipment creates an unnecessary hazard and dangerous situations because people are not alerted to their presence and intention.
Police routinely travel +90mph and sometimes exceed 100mph which is far and above all other traffic-swerving and racing without any alert or warning. Another local policeman lost his job a few weeks ago because the city was sued over an accident he caused with no warning lights or sirens and it was found to be the cause of injury. It prompted my question here.
*This is not a question for you to express your frustration with slow drivers and road hogs.
*This is not a disparaging remark against the police in general. I understand the very necessary role they play in society.
My question is about the police not using their safety equipment while other emergency vehicle services do for good reason and with good effect.
Is this decision not to use their safety equipment usually a department policy or is it left to the individual patrolman?
I was wondering what can be done about this.

I travel about 100 freeway miles a day for my work, I go through several counties in the metro Atlanta Georgia area. Many of the police drive extremely dangerously in one particular county (Gwinnett) but the problem seem to be generally universal to the area.
For example the max speed limit is 65MPH, the fastest flow of traffic is usually just under 70 in the left lanes.
It is not unusual for police cars to tailgate other drivers, swerve through traffic and super-exceed the speed limit- I estimate around 90-100MPH in very heavy traffic. They travel with no lights or sirens and sometimes apparently race each other, tailgating each other trading the lead in an apparent challenge as they go.
The freeway is 6 lanes wide in some areas, and I've been going home driving about 60MPH in the far right lane not bothering anyone and a loud WHOOSH, and my car gets shook by the air suction as these policeman streak by the very next lane going their 90-100MPH. It's happened several times.
I don't have a grudge against highway patrol or anything like that, I haven't had a ticket in over 20 years. But it just seems wrong these are the same policeman who set up speed traps.
I see this type of dangerous situation purpetrated by the police in almost a daily occurance and I don't know who to contact or who to complain to. I don't want to call 911 and I don't want to become the target of the department's rage.
I don't want drugs to "mysteriously appear" in my vehicle for a warrantless stop, which I wouldn't put past them.
What can a citizen do without suffering police reprocussion? It seems I should notify someone as I see it happen but who to call? The police?
7 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police9 years agoWhy are some Churches so evil with greed?
This is my experience:
* Saved by the blood of Christ in 1983. I enjoyed my Methodist Church.
* I was married in 1985 and my job moved me 600 miles away a year later.
* Went to new Church at the new location, a Holiness Church. It had a fairly large congregation. People uttered in tongues, rolled on the floor etc.
* About a year later my marriage was in serious trouble. The new job didn't work out very well and we didn't have any $$ for marriage counseling.
* Desperate, I went to my pastor and asked if any member of the Church was licensed in marriage counseling.
He began questioning us about why we didn't fill out the 10% pledge card, and not doing so was an offense against the Church. He explained again that God demands 10% of all my gross earnings if I expect to be blessed.
He refused to suggest or refer a professional counselor among the congregation, opting he does all counseling "Himself" and set our first appointment a week later.
My wife and I went, and all he could say or ask is "Ok, what's the problem?" that's it. No advice, no digging and no interest in us at all.
He set another appointment for next week which he canceled for the following week which he again canceled until we finally gave up.
* A year later we divorced, but God works in mysterious ways and met the woman of my dreams 5 years later and we married with a storybook marriage until now.
About 10 years ago me and my wife began attending a Baptist church. Once again came across the pledge card and was questioned by the pastor about it.
Again, demanding 10% of all my gross earnings "So God can shower his blessings upon us". I told him that is the wrong spirit of giving and we left his Church.
A couple years later again found ourselves attending a Baptist Church with our neighbor, who lived with her two young sons in near poverty. Her Church's paster hammered the 10% pretty hard, but it was not a requirement like the last half dozen we visited.
Our neighbor was riding with us to Church one morning and she told us how she was going to give her whole 10% and she was unsure how to feed her kids at the end of the month, believing God will provide.
She was very proud of what she was about to give, and the sacrifice for the Church and handed the pastor the check after the service quietly, out on the steps..
He hands it back to her and exclaimed "God wants you to DOUBLE it" and hands it back to her.
Me and my family were standing right there and I really gave him a verbal lashing about it, and forever lost my faith in organized Church.
Why does God allow such evil and corruption to continue in his Church? SURELY the church leaders know what they're doing and the attitudes they create against the Church.
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs it OK to have a Sucubus wife?
I've had my spiritual partner for over 30 years. She's fun, smart and we are very much in love with each other.
No, this is not masterbation. It's not a silly gag either. It's not a dream, we interact several times every day, any time of day.
My wife of 16 years knows about her and recites daily prayers trying to get rid of my spirit. My spirit considers herself my 1st wife and won't leave.
If I ignore my spiritual wife too long she starts doing unexplainable paranormal stuff in the house like tossing things and making a lot of noise (Like she's ranting)
So there's a cat fight like two hens in the house. I don't enjoy the conflict but wish we could all coexist in acceptance and peace.
I'm in love with them both and can't imagine my life without either one.
What do you suppose will happen?
5 AnswersMythology & Folklore1 decade agoIs it alright to have a spiritual wife?
I've had a spirit that's been interacting in ways only a wife can (or should) for over 3 decades. (31 years)
I've also been married to a human wife for 16 years and have three kids. Me and her are very close and have a wonderful loving marriage.
My Earthly wife is aware of the spiritual side and very jealous. She says Christian prayers at night to get rid of her spiritual counterpart, but the prayers are ineffective.
I love my Earthly wife very, very much. I've been interacting with the other for almost twice as long and love that side too.
My spiritual Bride will never, ever leave under any circumstance. We've talked about it and she's here to stay.
I gave my life to Christ and born again back in 1983. I lived my life as a true believer to the best of my ability and no amount of prayer, laying hands or anything else has ever effected my spirit.
Because all the prayers, rituals, cleansings etc are completely ineffective, I can only guess she is an Angel or guide.
This isn't a gag, nor imagination.
There's a lot of odd things that happen in my house which are experienced by others and associated with my spirit.
Objects move, doorknobs turn - doors open as if someone is coming in, voices, touches, brushes, strange music, shadows and a lot more.
Is such a union alright?
If you answer my question, could you please also post the source of your reference? Thanks
