I'm just a moderate, secular thinker and artist. I love to debate, especially about religion. I believe religion is the bane of a civilized society. I'm a good person and nobody tells me to be. I just choose to follow the path of least resistance. Being a jerk, thief, murderer and psychopath is hard work ... running from the law all the time. I'd rather just lie around with my laptop and read. This week I'm fascinated with Physics!

  • What's been the general opinion of "Let's Draw Mohammed Day?"?

Muslims, other religious people and free thinkers ...I've been away for awhile. What has everyone been saying about the 116,000 people, worldwide, signing up on the Facebook page to show their support for FREEDOM and DEMOCRACY by drawing pics of Islam's Mohammed?

Recap: Remember, South Park was going to air a show where a bear was supposedly just a costume with Mohammed inside? And revolutionmuslim.com, based in New York, threatened the creators with death in a back-door, we-are-not-threatening-but-we-ARE -warning-you- might-be-executed way, to NOT air the TV show? And even though both animators are Jewish and not muslim and therefore not ruled by Islam, Comedy Central pulled the show.ANYWAY, even though North America is a democracy? What have people been saying about it?

  • Do Muslims understand what atheism is?

Atheism means not believing that god(s) exist. (Or whatever...you know what I mean).

So why is it, when Muslims criticize western women and call us "immodest" and you tell them you are an atheist so modesty, according to the bible or quran's interpretation, is irrelevant ..., do they end up lecturing about god or allah or god's laws when you just finished telling them you don't believe in god(s)?

    Example: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=201005...

Many other questions and answers I read make me wonder if Muslims comprehend the concept of people not accepting their strict ideas about life because we do not accept the existence of their allah or any other god?

So, Muslims, do you understand that not all people think your allah even exists?

  • How can you tell if you've had a heart attack?

I'm 56 and last week I suddenly became so nauseous, I ran to the bathroom and projectile vomited. about 15 minutes later, the same thing happened. I live alone with no friends or family living close by. I thought it was just food poisoning or the flu,

I was so dizzy and felt so sick that I took a Gravol and a Prevacid and about 2 hours later I took Imodium because I was hardly conscious and was finding it hard not to faint on the way to and from the bathroom. I collapsed on my bed and slept for two days straight, only getting up to drink gingerale or water from big 2L bottles I put by my bed. Even though my cell phone was close by, I couldn't even call 911, I was so out of it. I live in Canada so calling an ambulance is no big expense but I couldn't call anyone.

It took me over a week to feel well enough to walk outside. Even then, I was going to go to the corner store but only got about 20 ft. from my door before I nearly fainted again. For a few days I had lower back pain but I figured it was just from lying around so long.

I went for my yearly physical about 2 months ago and my doctor did an EKG strip but never said anything was odd. I just wondered if I may have had a mild heart attack because my mom died of congestive heart failure and the doctors said she must have had 4 or 5 heart attacks previously. She never went to hospital for ANY of them but often would get bad pain in her lower back that left her bed-ridden for a week or 2.

What should I do? Should I go to Emergency next time this happens, or what?

    Thank you for your help.

  • Do atheists think if you don't accept god as a real entity...?

Do atheists think if you don't accept god as a reality then you can't believe in some sort of existence or reincarnation after death too? Why do so many of you give TDs to answers that differ from, "No. You die, you're dead, end of story. You get buried and you're worm food, or you get baked and thrown into the wind to coat the forest floor with your memory."

I'm an atheist and I'm fascinated by studies neurologists are doing concerning brain waves when people are sleeping or in a coma. The physical body can't function without sleep and recharging itself, but the brain waves keep snapping away. And our brain is just a physical vessel that manages memories, emotions and functions but doctors and researchers are not certain where dreams originate from and play themselves out.

Do you see the possibility where, when our bodies finally die, our conscious energies might remain active and intact as they do when we sleep or are unconscious?

  • Spiritually speaking...Do you believe the homeless are deadbeat losers?

Do you believe the homeless and poor are deadbeat losers who are just lazy and don't want to work?

Do you believe they are aptly taken care of through shelters and food banks and should quit whining?

Does your faith, or atheism make you feel we aren't our brothers' keepers?

Finally, please share your religion, or lack of it.

(I'm an atheist who believes the homeless deserve all the support we can get for them.)

  • Is Mel Gibson going to make a movie about...?

  • Is the difference between Hawking and Einstein...?

...that Stephen Hawking hypothesizes and Albert Einstein sort of actually proved some of his theories? I don't know if I'm making any sense, but I have a very "layman's interest" in physics and suggesting I read up on it is like me asking you to speak to me in the Na'vi pseudo-language. I refer to my earlier question here:

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=201004...

Why is it nobody has been able to "touch" Einstein for so long?

  • The speed of light measures what, where?

(snort) I was just going to ask if the speed of light is the Universal frame of reference for measuring time! As if we would know.....

But I wondered if the speed of light was a pretty reliable measurement of,... I guess... time, EVERYWHERE in the Universe and not just in relation to Earth. What do you say?

  • Would time be different if I lived on another planet?

If I lived on another planet, with, say, a double binary solar system...... time would be different then, right? Or is time measured the same everywhere in the Universe, theoretically?

    4 AnswersPhysics1 decade ago
  • If I lived on another planet...?

... far away... (and there are those who believe I do), would time exist for me or would it only matter to me and my fellow planetary inhabitants if we needed it to consider events in reference to other things? I hope I worded that well enough...

  • Does anyone here watch Big Bang Theory...?

    ... and "get it"?

I laugh at the references to Star Wars and Star Trek because I'm a bit of a sci-fi fan. But does anyone understand what else they're talking about? Oh! I know what the CERN Hadron Collider is too.'

    Thanks.

  • Does anything come between millennium and eon?

I know there are decades, centuries, millennia/millenniums and eons. I just wondered if there was any measurement of time between the last two. Thanks.

  • Who is the current "Einstein"?

I know about the Ancient Greeks, Newton, Einstein and Hawking. Is Stephen Hawking the "king" of modern physics or is there somebody new that most people, like me, have never heard of?

  • Why did the multiple writers of the bible...?

... think it was acceptable to give their main protagonist, god, such a despicable character? Why did they make him cruel and vengeful and jealous and unable to control his temper? Why did they give their god the worst human flaws and personality disorders?

  • What do Muslims think of the Taliban?

Do Muslims in the west think of them differently than muslims in Islamic countries?

    13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago
  • The Taliban Muslims are moving Islam into Pakistan ...?

.... in order to change it, by force, into an exclusively militant Islamic country.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090422/ap_on_re_as/as...

They've already executed people who don't obey them

Pakistan has nuclear weapons capability. How long do you think the Taliban will wait before they target Jews and Christians?

Does this bode ill for the rest of the world as the first step towards ....... what?

  • Are most Muslim men virgins when they marry?

I wondered if Islam demands the same standards of Muslim men as of their women and if this is so, are Muslim men good lovers or just good baby-makers?

What age do Muslim men marry?

  • Why do Muslim women get mad?

Why do Muslim women get mad when western women are angered by what they perceive as Islam's "oppression" of women? Don't you realize it's mostly fellow "sisters" being upset by poor treatment of Muslim women in Islamic countries?

Our media doesn't tell us, "Oh, look at these stupid, suplicating women who don't stand up for their rights?" They show us atrocities the Taliban have committed against Muslim women! Are you saying "religion police" in some villages do NOT chase women & beat them for not wearing the full burqa or venturing out without a male relative? Are you saying there are NO women who are forbidden an education or a job?

We, in the west, have been brought to tears by media stories of widows who are banned from earning a living to feed their children & are only allowed out when ascorted by a son or a male relative. They suffer, they need help!

Do you not know this or are you saying it's a media fairytale? Many of us just feel for our fellow women.

  • Do you think philosophy conflicts with or supports your theology?

For anyone who has studied or even read up on Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras up to modern philosophers, do you feel their ideas clash with your religion or do you think the concepts are compatable?

For the non-religious: would you say ideas about ethics and morals can be adequately obtained from philosphy rather than religious doctrine?
