I'm a 50-ish IT project manager at a Boston-area insurance company. Married for over 25 years, my wife and I have two sons. I am a liberal Democrat. I am a lifelong Roman Catholic with a master's degree in Catholic lay ministry -- no, that won't make me a priest. I am a faith-and justice Catholic and a weekly communicant at a faith community associated with a local Catholic shrine where I direct a part-time choir, I'm of Franco-American descent and still speak the Canadian French that I grew up with. I enjoy foreign movies, Mythbusters, Snopes.com , Dunkin' Donuts vanilla chai and Breyers chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. I have traveled to Rome, Cape Town (South Africa), the Netherlands, WashinDC and (of course) Quebec province. Je me souviens! I'm in awe of and fanatically protective of the documents of the Second Vatican Council, the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Don't tread on me! My favorite blog is http://www.thecrankycatho lic.blogspot.com.

3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow do Christians deal with crude sexual humor?
I work in an office where crude sexual humor is a staple of team meetings. As a Christian, I find this offensive and unprofessional, but don't know the best way to deal with it. I have spoken to my manager about it, who told the worst offenders to give it a rest, but that just makes them untrusting of me and harder to work with.
Should I join in to maintain team spirit? Should I stay quiet when this occurs? Shoulds I leave the room or otherwise avoid associating with this group?

FYI: I think they're both awesome!
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat does it mean to be spiritual but not religious?
I often hear people claim to be "spiritual but not religious," but I don't believe this position makes any sense.
My understanding is that religion is an organized system of beliefs and perspectives toward ultimate reality, and that spirituality (e.g., Franciscan or Benedictine spirituality) is one of those perspectives. Would it not be that having rational thoughts about the world of the spirit is the beginning of a system of beliefs, and therefore a religion? Perhaps it is a religion without a church, a religion of one, but isn't it still a religion?
If you disagree, what is it like to be a spiritual person without a religion?
14 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo you think there ought to be a separate category for Atheism?
Maybe we can call it "Non-Religion & Non-Spirituality." Or is there some value in dialog with those who are persuaded that God doesn't exist?
