Why do many believe Catholic priests frequently abuse children when there is no data to support that claim?

24 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoRatzinger let children get hurt?
Could someone please show me one case of Ratzinger, as either pope or head of the CDF, directing a bishop to allow a known sexually abusive priest access to children? Some seem to be implying this happened.
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhen to believe the Associated Press?
30 years ago, the AP told us that John Paul II had virtually halted laicizations. Now, they are implying that 30 years ago, Ratzinger, JP II's underling, had the authority to laicize, but just chose not to. Which is it?

The Associated Press claims "Vatican waited years to defrock Arizona priest":

Yet the Arizona Daily Star claims the defrocking took place the same year as the asking:
"2004: The Diocese of Tucson asks the Vatican to permanently remove two of those accused of molesting from the priesthood - Trupia and Teta.
"August 2004: Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas announces the two priests have been defrocked by the Vatican."

Isn't it ironic that when a Jewish person writes, "I am following the violent and concentric attacks against the church, the pope and all the faithful by the whole world. The use of stereotypes, the passing from personal responsibility and guilt to a collective guilt, remind me of the more shameful aspects of anti-Semitism,” people blame the Catholic Church, proving this person's exact point?

2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs polluting the environment a "personal freedom issue"?
"Curt Cunningham, water-quality-issues chairman for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of Sierra Club International, worked tirelessly last year on a ballot measure that would force the City of Boulder to remove fluoride from drinking water, because some believe it has negative effects on health and the environment that outweigh its benefits. But Cunningham said he would never consider asking women to curtail use of birth-control pills and patches – despite what effect these synthetics have on rivers, streams and drinking water.
"'I suspect people would not take kindly to that,' Cunningham said. 'For many people it’s an economic necessity. It’s also a personal freedom issue.'"

Catholicism and mainline Protestantism limit its adherents to one spouse at a time. Civil government in the United States limits its citizens to one spouse at a time. Is this an establishment of religion, or just a coincidental matter of public policy?

Since monogamy is unnatural, why are so few people fighting for governmental recognition of polygamous marriage? Shouldn't as much effort, if not more, be put toward the legal recognition of polygamous marriage as is toward the legal recognition of same-sex marriage?
