How do you think this horse was trained?
First things first. 1. I do not own this horse 2. Dont tell me to get it re trained etc I know it should be I just have no control in doing so. 3. Just want thoughts as to how you think it was trained..
Heres the story:
I just recently met my birthmom(thats another long story) anywho I'm 26 and I've been riding since I was a toddler... I like to think I am fairly experienced around horses and I also know that I am always learning and there are some horses I will not handle. So anywho I went to her farm one day and her and her bf had just bought these two paint x mares... the one is just RANK! A nasty nasty mare who will charge threw the fence at your bite and kick.. I wont get near her... that horse is no good no idea why in the world they bought her...
The other is a 4year old sweet sweet mare she'll follow you around like a dog... they did not know if they were broke they didnt ride them before buying them (yea no idea again why someone would do that but hey not my money) They stated the people they bought her from said she was broke to ride etc... I lunged her a bit she responded to voice commands... I did notice however though that if you would get near her back end with the rope she would kind of crow hop...you can pet her on her rear though.. I saddled her (long story short I did what I needed to to make sure she was ok with me in the saddle) She did great her neck reining needs to be worked on but she did good never offered a buck at all.. She WOULD NOT respond to leg pressure though at all nor voice commands I wasn't about to slap her on the rump with my reins because of the whole crow hopping thing so I cued her by her withers and she did great with that picked up a trot and then a canter with no prob! I've also ridden her bareback........
... Well mom decided she could do it too one day ... Dont really know what happened she doesn't remember much other then she hit her rump with her reins horses started bucking..mom now needs pins in her wrist and broke her eye socket...
I was shocked when I heard this besides asking are you ok and all that I was curious to learn why this horse who never bucked at all with me did to that extent with her... how do you think she was trained? The people who sold her are no longer able to be contacted so I cant call and ask them that.. the other problem with her is she does not take a bit well... They've bought 3 so far and she just is hard excepting it..I want to try a bosel.. but again its not my horse I am more kind of curious to see what other people think.. And yup I know not smart on her end and she knows that too.
6 AnswersHorses1 decade agoFound birth FAMILY now what?
Well after talking to my parents I was given the info they have it included two names the birth father and the birth mother (someone at the hospital messed up and gave it to them) It also included the name they gave to me which is unusual I thought. Anyway in less then 24 hours I found the following
A FULL BROTHER who is a year younger that she kept.,someone asked me well maybe her husband doesnt know about you. he has biological fathers last name. So he'd have to know about him perhaps theres a chance he knows about me as well
2 half brothers. 1 belonging to mother and 1 to father
Both biological parents of married other people.
They both live within 45 mins of me..
I have a cop friend in one of the towns who was able to shed a TON of light on the family and what probably happened. Heres a brief situation
Birth mother and father were 16 according to my friend her family was some type of religion and she probably rebelled they are ultra concretive have no conservative very very religious didn't believe in doctor care.
He thinks the reason they were forced to give me up and not my brother is she was 16 when she had me and 18 when she had him. And once she was 18 she was an adult and the family couldn't control her as much.
She must have left the family or broken away from its strict following.
I've looked at both the myspace and facebook pages of my full brother and one of the half brothers... very interesting...
Question to you all.......What do you think my next step should be if any? Do you think the chances of them wanting to meet me would be higher since there is a full brother they were able to keep?
How do you go about arranging something like that?
Not sure if I want to involve my friend anymore just cause of his position in the community.
Ideas? Thanks!
PS Sorry about the spelling i'm in a hurry!!
I'll be 26 in two months... if anyone is wondering

6 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoDebate help please? Nice way to help without sounding like a know it all?
So kind of a multi part question
Brief situation.
Friend and her bf just bought a 4 year old unbroke mare from a rescue. Her bf grew up on a farm raising cattle and rides bulls so she's convinced he knows how to break and train a horse.
Hess a pretty good rider but she is not very experienced. She really likes people to think she is and talks herself up a lot but when you put her on a horse or ask her to do something as far as help feeding or chores you can tell she is really out of her element she's going to school to be a vet so I think that is why she thinks she knows more then she does.
Any who I have a friend who develops horse supplements for a company and I gave her his info because she stated the mare was skinny due to being mal nourished etc.He gave her a free 80 day supply of supplement because shes a friend of mine.
I was talking to her about it last night and she told me they aren't giving the mare grain yet because she hasn't earned it. The shock on my face probably gave me away but I asked why and she then went on to tell me that if a horse knows its going to get fed it wont act like its supposed to and is harder to train. So its just on hay...
I just say there not really knowing what to say. I am a very NON confrontational person. I've been around horses a long time but try to not come across like a no it all so I said nothing... And since I have never FULLY broke a horse maybe I didn't know what I was talking about.
I called my friend who gave her the supplement who does break horses and raises quarter horses. He was actually mad and said that's an old cowboy way of breaking a horse the theory is to basically drain the horse of energy then ride it because its to tired to act up and eventually it'll be trained.
I think that is a extremely WRONG way to train a horse. She stated to me once when I asked why she bought a horse that wasn't broke she said she wanted one they knew was started the right way. But I think this is the WRONG way to start a horse.. few more things.. the day after they got the horse home. They cinched a saddle on her... her bf got on her and sat... then my friend lunged her for 30mins straight.. (don't know at what gait) and then tried to get on and the horse reared and they were done for the night... Only thing I said about that was that they should have finished on a good note..
ANYWAY...
Thoughts on that way of breaking a horse?
What is a nice professional way to give advise without coming across as a know it all..
Could they get into trouble with the rescue for not giving it graing?? (fyi she volunteers at the rescue too)

4 AnswersHorses1 decade agoGelding digging to china...?
So I've started working a NSH in the barn.. and before I started riding him there wasn't this problem so just wondering what's going on heres some background info:
Hes 14, hadn't been worked in a year except a few times the owners girls would just on him bareback.. There were some issues with lameness and finally they are gone so the owner asked if I'd like to get him back into shape.. This is the 4th week now, I try to ride him every other day for about 20-30 mins cant go much longer then that hes not in good enough shape yet... he has started digging a hole right in front of his stall door.. you open his door and fall in lol. I cover it every time I see it and no lie come back 30 mins later the hole is back. He does not weave or pace and he has a ball to play with in his stall. He's turned out I'd say about 3 times a week and for space reasons this is all he will be able to be turned out. The trainer thinks hes doing it because the horses he used to be turned out with have since left the barn. Me starting to ride him and the other two horses leaving happened the same week. The option of turning him out with another group either a. there are already enough in one pasture or b. the ones that are alone need to be left alone they don't get along well with another horse.
I know horses in the wild dig to find water and food. So I guess is he just bored? What can I do to make him less bored or what are some other reasons horses do this?
Oh yup there is a mat in stall and he tore it where the hole is being dug.
9 AnswersHorses1 decade agoDo you have an open mind about others riding?
So this question was posed in another topic but it made me ant to ask it.
I've noticed that people here think that the only way you should be able to own a horse is if you know how to do XYZ with your horse and if you dont then you should not own one. But I'm wondering if people know that all over the world people think different and show different and have horses for different reasons SO
Heres a example and I am kind of repeating myself but some of you may not have read it.
Do you think someone should not own a horse just because they do not know how to tack it up themselves??
I think they have every right to and heres why. I am going to use Dressage at Devon as an example some of these men and women ride for very prestigense barns and (oh gosh this is going to get me in trouble but remeber you must have a open mind!) tacking up their own horse is not something they think is nessicary and some feel well that its benith them that is what the stable hands are paid for... they for the most part dont go on trail rides and dont go out for a afternoon ride. Why do you think its wrong?? Yes in a lot of cases its people with money so I dont want people to call them snots... its just the belief system. I actaully know some trainers who wont let clients tack their horses because they want to make sure everything is done right. What makes you a better horse person then them just because you can tack your horse up? Truth be told I'm sure a lot of them are better horse people then most of us on here.
17 AnswersHorses1 decade agoAdoption question and when to ask?
I've always known I was adopted. On my 16th bday my mom came to me and told me a bit about my birth mother. How much of it is true I do not know because she really wasn't sure she was told my birth mother was about 15 and on drugs. She also told me the lawyer that handled the case advised them he would not let me look at the records until I was 25. Well I am 25 now soon to be 26. Because of medical problems when I was born the state handled my adoption, I was never placed in foster care either.
I guess I just need help with the following.
1. Birth mother is very sensitive to this any good way to ask without causing un needed hurt.
2. I find this matter very very personal to the point I really don't want my family members knowing until I feel the time is right, I know some of you will think this is wrong but I know my family and I know myself SO do you think the lawyer will talk to me without my parents giving him permission. Does that go against client confidently with them and him or do I have a right since its my records?
3. Why do you think they were told not to let me look into it until I was 25?

19 AnswersHorses1 decade agoChuckwagon races? Thoughts?
Ok so chuckwagon races are done around here I have friends that compete in them. I like watching them its crazy and exciting BUT horses sometimes get really really hurt. I was wondering what your thoughts are on these its almost the same as horse racing. If you've never been to one please dont respond rudely. Like I said its really no different then a horse race.
1 AnswerHorses1 decade agoHome Schooling what made you deciede?
What made you decide to home school your child?
What credentials do you have?
Have you met adults thats have been home schooled growing up?
How old are your children that you have home schooled.
If they've gone back to public school how did they do?
13 AnswersHome Schooling1 decade agoIs this rude? Your thoughts?
I am just wondering if this is rude or not. The barn I ride in has a designated area to brush and tack your horse. At the end of the day the room can be really dirty...since its a small barn with no grooms should each person be responsible for sweeping up their own mess? I think so.
I understand if your in a big barn with grooms and such. In a barn like that then its ok to not worry about it there is usally so much going on anyway you dont notice it.
But in a small barn, mainly one that just has boarders and a few lessons horses I think its rude to leave your dirt, hair and muck behind. What do you all think?
22 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhy would Latigo be on the right side (western riders help please)?
So I pulled my grandpas old western saddle out of the barn to clean up and use he's been gone since 1978 and know one has used this saddle.
After I cleaned it up I realized the latigo is attached to the right side and the cinch is attached to the left... The cinch strap is actually put on the saddle in a way the only way to get it off is to cut it off...
So there obviously has to be a reason as to why this was made in this way any ideas?? I am going to cut it off I dont trust the old leather anyway I was going to replace it but I was just curious as to what you all think about why it would have been made this way.. know one in my family has any idea. Thankw
