  • What type of differentials does a 2007 Ford Fusion AWD have? (front & back)?

My Grandmother has a 2007 AWD Fusion and it is simply excellent in snowy conditions - we live in a very hilly part of PA.

I just spent an hour on the internet and couldn t find an answer...

From what I can gather, her car has an "on demand" AWD system meaning it has a differential between the front and back axles... MY question is what type of diffs does it have in the axles themselves (front & back)? Open or limited slip?

    Thanks.

  • At what incline angle does weight in the bed of my truck stop helping with traction and start to hinder when plowing?

I have always pondered this and know there s a scientific explanation/formula.

I will be plowing our family business property this coming winter and there are many sketchy/steep areas. I have an 04 F150 FX4 (5.4L) and plan on using chains on all four tires and loading about 1000+ pounds of concrete blocks in the back for added traction.

I have a sneaky suspicion the answer is 33° or 45°, both of which is WAY steeper than me or anybody else in their right mind would attempt to plow.

-Please no stupid Ford hate - it might as well be a Dodge, Chevy, Toyota, etc....

Thanks to any geniuses who respond with good answers.

  • How do I connect a cable modem to a wireless router using fiber optic cable?

In a nutshell, I need WiFi in a building about 1/2 mile away from where the cable modem is. The simplest way I've thought of is using fiber since I can make the connection with one solid, buried cable.

What I need to know is what exactly do I need?

I assume there is something that can take the main Ethernet out of the modem and convert it to fiber, and then on the other end have another to convert the fiber signal back into an Ethernet.

I know there has to be equipment like this out there.

What do I need, and should I expect any kind of "lag" with this type of set up?

    Thank you.

  • What would cause my ABS to trigger when there's no need for it?

I have an '04 F150 FX4 (5.4L). A friend of mine & I were having beers and playing with it in my field the other night (yeah, shenanigans). It had rained earlier making for some fun times getting sideways, spinning all 4 up over hills & whatnot. Now, we really weren't trying to destroy the truck so we stayed along hedgerows and other places where there weren't any big holes or ditches. I'm not saying the suspension wasn't getting a workout because it was, but nothing flew out of the cup holders or slid off the back seat - crazy but not too crazy, get it...?

The next morning I went out to see exactly how filthy we got it and lets just say I spent $8 at the carwash and didn't even get to the 20 pounds of mud in each wheel well and everything else up underneath. Long story short, we brought 1/2 the field back with us - haha.

I have a very long and rough dirt driveway and on my way down it that morning I noticed the ABS was triggering for no apparent reason. It wasn't triggering like a machine gun as it does when you spike the brakes on ice, but it was triggering at a steady rate (bump........bump........bump........bump). Once I get onto the main paved road, it stops for the most part.

I have very little knowledge of brake systems and especially ABS systems. That being said, I was thinking maybe I cracked a pad or broke a caliper - maybe warped a rotor?? I don't know...

If anyone reading this has experience with ABS systems and think you know what is wrong, please advise. Thanks.

  • Very powerful & FAST pneumatic pistons?

I won't go into the specific application because I don't feel like typing that much... I am looking for a POWERFUL & FAST pneumatic or electric "piston" with at least 10" of stroke. It has to be able to "launch" an approximately 10 pound object at high speed and "reload" for another cycle within 3 or 4 seconds. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • How to get truck axle differential higher?

I once watched a video on guys doing some series suspension work to a truck. They took the wheels, brakes and everything off all 4 corners and installed these, well I don't know what to call them... These things attached to the end of the axle and then about 5 inches BELOW, the brakes and tires were reinstalled in order to get the axles that much higher off the ground. I was washing my Grandfather's John Deere 790 yesterday and it has a similar assembly on the front axle to run the front drive.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about & what these "axle-raisers" are called, please advise. I'm planning on buying an F150 Raptor before too long & thought it would be sweet to install these on it if possible.

    Thank you.

  • LONGTERM concrete crack protection?

I have a large basement entrance with a poured & bridged concrete "roof". It's a 10'x10'x10' all-poured (floor, walls & ceiling) room. I designed, built the form & poured the vaulted "ceiling" (vibrated with overkill rebar).

Now concrete is guaranteed to do two things - get hard & crack... I'm sure the "roof" is without a doubt structurally sound but it has a few hairline cracks that I believe are in the nature of the beast.

My concern isn't with structural integrity - it's with water getting into the cracks, freezing & making the cracks worse (the same way potholes happen).

I need to know what I can apply to the exposed outside surface that will fill & seal the surface cracks and will last for a LONG time.

    Any concrete pros please advise.

    Thank you.

  • Looking for a CAD program for Mac to build a home?

I would like to find a program (probably called C.A.D.) that would allow me to build a home in 3D board by board. Ideally, I could build the house piece by piece and then at the end it could give me a material list. If anyone know of such a program, let me know. Thanx.

  • 24' x 24' suspended concrete garage floor?

My wife & I are selling our current home and are planning on building a new one. I want to build a 2 car garage with a 2nd floor for an efficiency 1 bedroom apartment rental AND a basement under everything for my recroom (I hate the term "mancave").

My question is about the garage floor/basement ceiling. I want a traditional concrete garage floor but I don't want any posts or supports getting in my way in the basement - I have an idea...

I understand some of the basics of concrete construction but I'm far from a know-it-all.

    Here's my idea:

Dig the basement hole, lay down & tamp 6" of 2B stone, pour & vibrate 8" of crete (thicker footers), build forms then pour & vibrate basement/foundation walls. *Here's the idea/question* --- Once the poured basement walls are in place, I want to find & buy (probably used) about 12, 24'x4" steel I-beams and bridge them across the basement (spaced about every 2 feet). Once the beams are in place, I will build a form with OSB and a million supporting 2x4s 1" underneath the bridged I-beams. Bring in the concrete truck, pour & vibrate a 6" pad that flows under all the beams 1" and covers them by 1". Give it a week or two then pull out the supports.

Will this 24'x24' steel-beam-reinforced concrete floor support 2 cars??

If there are any concrete geniuses reading this, please advise & share your thoughts.

Thank you & have a nice evening.

  • What can I use on my English Bulldog's face to keep her from relentlessly digging at it?

We have a 1 1/2 year old female English Bulldog named Winnie. She is constantly digging at her face with her front & back feet and paces around the house & rubbing her face on everything she can reach. I know it must itch, but that doesn't keep it from being ANNOYING AS HELL. My wife cleans her wrinkles out with baby wipes & warm water MULTIPLE times a day. My wife also sometimes uses dog ear cleaner on the wrinkles because she was told it kills bacteria and will also dry them out. All this stuff my wife does has no apparent effect because Winnie will dig & rub & dig & rub & dig & rub until she's got her face bleeding and then she seems satisfied until it heals up & she'll start the process from the top. Don't get me wrong, I DO feel bad for her, but like I said before it's SO ANNOYING I have actually thought of getting rid of her.

My question is, what can we use on her face to get rid of the itching or whatever the hell causes her to dig & rub & dig & rub?? I have thought about using Sea Breeze or something on her - I'm reaching my wits end.

If there are any vets or English Bulldog experts reading this, please advise and give Winnie and myself some peace.

    Thank you.

  • Can I buy a tripod/telescopic lens for iPhone 5S?

I would like to film & broadcast my local high school's football games live over the internet. I know there are steps to take, permissions to ask & money to be shared from a pay-to-view internet video feed and I will be looking into that.

Now, what I'm looking for is some kind of tripod and "camera lens addition" combo so I could set up in/on the press box and be able to zoom in occasionally without the digital zoom graininess becoming too much of an issue. Pretty much I'd like some kind of telescopic do-hickey that attaches to the phone's camera lens and a tripod to set it all on (preferably a tripod with an aiming handle for the phone).

I want to do this with an iPhone (5S) because of the simplicity... It has a decent camera and high-speed cellular internet connectivity (LTE). Honestly, I haven't even looked into live-broadcasting apps but I'm sure there has to be something out there.

Anyway, if anyone reading this knows of a product that would fill my needs, please let me know.

Thank you & have a nice day.

  • What type drive axles does a 2003 Escape 4x4 have?

My wife & I have a 2003 Ford Escape XLT V6 4x4. There's a nasty logging road that we use quite often and when it snows, the Escape surprisingly doesn't disappoint. We have Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires on it so I'm sure that helps. I'd like to know a little about HOW the 4x4 system works. It isn't actually "4x4" - from what I understand it's actually a crude AWD system. However it does have a switch to "lock in" the rear drive axle. I know there are 2 or 3 different differential types - "limited slip", "posi" and maybe another. I'm pretty sure the Escape has "limited-slip", and therein lies my question....

Exactly how does limited-slip work? From what I understand (which isn't much), only one wheel is actually being driven at a time until that wheel spins, then the other side is engaged. That power-switching process is my question... Once the spinning is conquered, does power always go back to the "main" drive wheel or does it stay with the last wheel to not spin?

If someone could explain this to me (in layman's terms) I could quit thinking about it.

Thank you & have a nice day.

  • How difficult is it to cure a dog of skin mites?

My brother & sis-in-law recently bought a French Mastiff puppy. The dog, named Sable, eventually developed a skin condition so they took her to the vet. I think Sable is about 4-5 months old. The vet diagnosed the problem as "skin mites" and prescribed pills. Now this vet visit was a few weeks ago and according to my brother, the condition hasn't gotten any better and may have actually gotten worse. I just now called him and asked what the vet gave him to give Sable - he told me "Ivomectin" - I did a search on that and all that came up was "Ivermectin" (different spelling). I even asked him to spell it, twice. I did a little research of my own and learned that some dogs lack the immunity to fight off the parasites. Sable has a follow-up visit in 2 weeks and I told my brother to request a specific vet at the same clinic that I know is very experienced & competent (he's been doing it for over 30 years). I know there are a lot of not-so-great (to put it nicely) vets out there.

So I guess I have 2 questions here...

    1) If Sable lacks that immunity, are there any treatments that will kill off the parasites? And if so, I imagine they would then need to give her periodic baths in special shampoo??

    2) Is "Ivomectin" a different or generic drug compared to "Ivermectin"? (remember, he spelled it twice)

If there are any vets or dog experts reading this, please advise. Thank you very much.

  • What time tomorrow will the iPad "Air" be available to buy on Apple.com?

I've read from a few different places around the internet that the iPad "Air" will be available to buy from the Apple RETAIL stores starting at 8 AM - that's a given. What I need to know is when will they become available on Apple's online store? Aside from saying they will be available at 8 AM in the stores, one article went on to say "they may become available before that (8 AM) thru the online store". I'd like to think it would go live on Apple.com at the strike of midnight but that's a little sketchy pertaining to time zones, different countries & whatnot. Apple's headquarters is in California so maybe it'll be released at midnight Pacific time, making it 3 AM Eastern time?? I know what everybody reading this is thinking - wow, this guy is the most desperate Apple fanboy on Earth... Well, I AM fond of Apple stuff but it's not like I'll have my nose pressed against a steamed-up window watching for the FedEx truck (haha)... The reason I want to buy it ASAP is because I know they will sell out quickly and I refuse to go on the wild goose chase looking for one before Christmas - it is a gift for my daughter. Also, we are ordering a 64GB model and I know there'll be much fewer of those made.

OK, bla bla bla, I'll shut up now..... Back to my question... Does anyone know what time (Eastern Time) the iPad Air will be available on Apple.com??

    Thank you in advance.

    Have a nice day.

  • Annoying door ajar warning in 2009 Focus SES?

We own a 2009 Focus SES and are having trouble with a "driver's door ajar" warning. Sometimes it does it & sometimes it doesn't. I can be driving down the road 15 minutes after shutting the door and it'll start giving me the "ding ding" and the "driver's door ajar" message in the instrument panel. I looked & looked but can't find any kind of switch or magnet sensor. Maybe the switch is built into the latch? I've opened the door and used a screwdriver to move the latch around but that doesn't effect the "door ajar" warning... If anyone reading this knows where the driver's door ajar sensor is in a 2009 Ford Focus SES please let me know. Thank you.

  • Can I get a replacement battery for my late 2010 MacBook Air that's higher capacity than the original?

My MacBook Air's battery has seen better days. It doesn't last nearly as long as it did 2 years ago. I found a replacement and saw it's capacity is 6700 mAh. Now according to Apple.com, this laptop came from the factory with a 50-watt-hour battery... Is the replacement I found higher, lower or the same capacity?

Maybe I should just cut to the chase... This laptop came out 3 years ago - maybe in that time someone has made a battery replacement that exceeds the laptop's original battery's capacity? I'd be happy with a new battery just like the one it came with but if I could go bigger, I would.

Any laptop battery experts please advise.

    Thanks!

  • Is it mechanically safe to tow heavy loads with a 4x4 Escape?

We own a '03 Escape XLT 4x4 V6. I will be installing a class 3 hitch in order to move trailers around our property. I'm aware that the Escape is only rated to pull 2000 pounds ON THE ROAD, but that isn't what I'll be doing. I'll be pulling trailers loaded with building materials, lawn equipment, & whatnot used around the property & the family business. My concern is with the Escape's rear differential. The Escape is primarily front-wheel-drive until it detects wheel spin and engages the rear wheels automatically or it can be done manually with the 4x4 switch. There are a few pretty steep roads around the property (more like logging trails) that are very rough, loose & rocky that require 4 wheel drive to pull heavy loads up the hills. I need to know if the Escape's rear can be damaged by pulling heavy loads in this manner... I know it's not a "real" 4x4 system - more like a crude AWD system. I read somewhere how it only sends 25% of the power to the rear in 4x4 mode and that leads me to believe the rear differential isn't all that strong. Again, I will never be towing more than it's rated for ON THE ROAD - these heavier loads I'm talking about will only be on the property at very slow speeds - and the loads would be supported by the trailer - not the tongue/hitch. If anyone reading this knows a lot about the Escape's 4x4 drivetrain and if it can be trusted under substantial towing stresses like I've described, please tell me what you think. Thanks a lot & have a nice day.

  • Does anyone know anything about the upcoming iPad 5?

My wife & I are planning on "talking to Santa" about making a new iPad for our daughter. She has had her iPad 1 since she was 2 and it's getting pretty "tired" - the screen isn't as bright as it once was, it's not as responsive as it once was, etc. It still works just fine, but even compared to my wife's iPad Mini (a small iPad 2), it's beginning to show it's age.

Anyway, my question.... The iPhone 5S was released a few days ago and I saw it's going to have a 64 bit, A7 chip and a pretty good camera with slow motion & whatnot. I've been looking around the internet for rumors and/or leaks but nothing I've found seems very credible. I'd really like to know if this iPad 5 (or whatever they decide to call it) will have the same hardware as the phone or not. We are going to get our daughter one regardless of it's hardware just because of how familiar she is with iOS.

More or less, we're just anxious to know what it's going to be like. If anyone reading this has read or knows anything about the "iPad 5", please let me know what you've heard, know or read.

--& please no advertising, hate or product plugging. I'm sure Android is a great mobile OS if that's what you're familiar with.

Thanks a lot in advance. Have a nice evening.
