So i know that the formula for iron(III) oxide is Fe2O3, but can someone explain it to me? I know you would take the subscript of the oxygen as the roman numeral and i know oxygen is diatomic. I basically just want to know how we know that Fe is originally +3? Is it on the periodic table or is it something i just have to memorize?
