  • Generator and length of cord...?

I have a 9375 max watt Coleman generator for my home. I have a 6 foot cord that came with the house I bought but I wanted to get my generator farther away from the bedroom where we sleep. So, I got a longer cord, maybe 15 feet. We recently had a power out and I was mystified how everything worked. Most lights worked but some did not. Does the length of the cord affect anything? And if not, why would some of my lights not turn on? All of the breakers were on but none of the high watt appliances were being used at all (ele. range, a/c, hot tub).

I was thinking I could run more stuff with a generator this size.

  • Milky colored oil in merc cruiser I/O this fall...?

I have a 21 SeaRay with a 350 magnum engine in it that was rebuilt 3 years ago. During routine fall maintenance and putting the boat away for the season, I noticed very milky oil. And nearly twice the amount came out of the engine that normally does. I have a call in to my mechanic but in the meantime, I m wondering if I should run the engine with the new oil just to "clean" off the milky stuff from the engine parts. The engine ran great all year and oil pressure and water temp were all good. Puzzled but there is obviously some water getting in. I suspect a cracked block or some gasket perhaps. Don t want to do more damage possibly but think that "flushing" the internal engine parts with the fresh oil might improve things some. Advice appreciated.

I have no intention of connecting water to my ice maker for my beer fridge in the garage. Can I remove the ice maker without compromising the function of the fridge/freezer? Seems simple to remove it with just a few bolts...

  • What is the best do it yourself lawn treatment for Texas fleas?

I am a 4 month resident of Texas near Corpus Christi. Unfortunately, my dog has a reaction to flea bites. He's on medication that kills the fleas but they still irritate his skin. We bathe him weekly with a fungicide recommended by our Texas vet. We have been treating the inside our our house with I.G. Regulator and the outside with Bifen IT. The outdoor Bifen IT treatment is simply not killing the adults. I'm treating the outside area every 10 days because nothing kills pupae. This was recommended by the Bifen IT manufacturer but it simply is not working. Any suggestions or recommendations for any other products?

  • Does the length of my home generator cable matter?

I have a home generator that plugs into the outside of our home wall when the power goes out. The cable that came with this home is approximately 15 feet long. I believe it was made this long to get the generator away from the home/bedroom window where the plug is. Should I be using a shorter cord or is the 15 footer ok? It is heavy duty with the proper ends attached.

  • Gerber Multi-tool corroded!?

I've owned several Gerber multi-tools over the years and in general, they've performed very well. My wife and I fish the salt flats in Texas for redfish in our kayaks and over the three years we've used our Gerber's, they've become so corroded that they are nearly unusable. We've rinsed them with fresh water after use but the "stainless" steel seems to be vulnerable to this environment.

What I'm wondering is if someone could recommend a "soak" for these tools or some other idea to rejuvenate them so we can use them again.

    Thanks for your suggestions!

  • Tax bracket and tax question...?

Suppose someone is in the 28% income tax bracket and they "go over" a few thousand dollars in income for a particular year. Is ALL of their income taxed at the next higher bracket rate or is just the amount over the lower bracket taxed at the higher rate?

  • Nebraska from Netflix - cannot play?

I've tried this dvd from Netflix 3 times and in all cases, we cannot hear the dialog. The background sound plays but no words are heard. We've been Netflix customers for years and have never ever had this issue. Has anyone else had it and what did you do to resolve it?

  • 2010 Chevy Traverse evap vent valve location?

My Chevy dealer wants $260 to replace my evap vent valve for my 2010 Chevy Traverse LT/AWD. The part cannot be that expensive and installing it shouldn't be rocket science. I just don't know where the part is located on my vehicle since I do not have a service manual.

Low pressure A/C port for 2007 Chevy Silverado?

Where is it? The A/C recharge kit I bought does fit the smaller port right on the right side of the aluminum "can" in the center of the picture. Is this the low pressure port? Based on what I've read, it is "in-line" somewhere near the compressor. I could not find it anywhere. Thanks for any help!

  • Are Texas fleas more resistant to chemicals?

Specifically, Frontline absolutely did not work on my dog. I went to great trouble to be sure that he wasn't bathed a few days before and after the treatment. Frontline and others like this spread throughout the dogs skin via oils in their skin and bathing can remove/retard natural oil spread. Ok. So we treated with Frontline and our dog had lots of live fleas on him for days after the treatment. He subsequently scratched so much that we needed to take him to the vet. We visit Texas in the winter and spend the summers in Michigan. Our MI vet said that Texas fleas were much more resistant and recommended Comfortis. It appears to have worked as we are unable to find any fleas on our dog.

I'd also be interested if others have tried NexGuard instead of Comfortis.

  • How do I clean my truck windshield? (wipers squeak)?

I recently bought new windshield wipers for my Chevy Silverado because it was time and the old ones really squeaked when wiping. The new ones still squeak some and the dealer who sold me the wipers said "You have to get the windshield really clean!" I should have asked him how at the time but didn't.

Has anyone else had this problem with their wipers/windshield and can you recommend a cleaning suggestion?
