  • Boss called me out for talking on cell while driving?

I was in my own vehicle, on my own phone, and it was after hours. I live in a state where it is technically illegal to do so, though it's no more illegal than speeding, etc. Do you think there will be negative repercussions from this?

  • New in town - how do you meet people?

What's your favorite way to meet new people? ^_^

I just moved to a new town, where there's not too many professional singles in their twenties. I've had a heck of a time meeting the few friends I've got, and those were from work. Any ideas?

  • Good job positions in HVAC engineering?

I'm an HVAC engineer, and was thinking about a career change. Can you think of a good career that would be an easy transition? Not as a design engineer, and I can only work in an AE environment, as that is my major.

  • Anyone have any good sci fi novels to recommend?

I've done the R. Jordan, and the RR Martin... just about most major authors except Asimov (which I understand is a must read). Any new authors you recommend?

  • What is a creationist's view on dinosaurs?

I am not trying to be cheeky. But, I was wondering - wouldn't a belief in dinosaurs negate strict creationist views?

Because obviously these creatures existed far before our time, and before the conception of time as represented in the bible. Intelligent creationism - where there was a guiding force taking a hand in evolution - is still supported by the existence of dinosaurs.

So do strict creationists deny the existence of dinosaurs? How do dinosaurs work with the theory of creationism?

  • Stinging, pinching bug that smells? What have I got in my apt.???

Ok ok, y'all. I'm afraid to go to bed. I've got this 1/2" long bug that moves very fast. Its legs, head, and antennae are shaped like an oversized ant's with very pronounced mandibles. There is no separation between the thorax and the abdomen (middle and backside? I'm not good with bug anatomy.) Meanwhile the elongated tail has full 360 degree rotation and will lash back up over its head trying to sting when caught. I accidentally sqashed the neck, and its tail kept lashing around, leaving white streaks on the glass from where it was trying to hit me. (And yes, it kept trying to bite with the mandibles too!!) Dark brown... overall body shape kind of like a mealworm. Any ideas? I want to figure out what it is so I can talk to my landlord...... please help me ID this thing!

  • Has anyone out there had TSS?

How long did you wait to get medical attention? I made the big tampon mistake last night, and have been getting sicker all day. Not sure if it's the flu, though, so I don't want to cry wolf. Any advice?

  • Diabetic diet for wheat and onion allergies?

My sister has hyperinsulinism - which means she basically has to follow a very strict diabetic type diet. She just recently learned that she is allergic to wheat, onion, and shellfish, which leaves her with very few food options. Any ideas where I can find good recipies / restaurants that may be good for her? I want to help her out as much as possible.

  • Master's degree in an unrelated field?

I have a bachelor's and master's in engineering... but I really would like to get into another field. Is it possible to get a liberal arts / humanities type of master's degree without having a bachelor in those fields?

Anything / college you can recommend? I'm interested in english literature, philosophy, and religion. Haven't decided yet what I want to pursue.

  • Gifted and talented education programs?

How far should gifted and talented programs go? Should children be separated by ability level? If they are already separated out for some supplemental education, should more benefit be provided by these supplemental programs.... such as a higher level class?

There are pros and cons to the separation of different ability levels. From the perspective of a gifted student who was only partially separated out about once a week, I believe the all or nothing approach is better. In fact, I think being separated by ability levels help the students to perform at their own pace, and not get rediculous notions of their own academic prowess.

Have there been studies done on the effectiveness of these practices? What are your thoughts as a Y/A member?
