  • What code language is the following garbled characters in?

    Hare are a few examples:

    — for —

    ’ for '

    “ for "

    †for "

Which I found it common in many articles after copying and pasting. I posted the question a while back, and the best response I got was to copy it in Notepad and it will automatically convert it into ascii. It hasn't worked.

Now what I need to know is what code language is this in, and if there is an online decoder where I can first copy the document, have it decoded into text and be able to copy it without resulting in those characters?

Thanks again for anyone who can answer this. :)

  • What are the basic differences between MySpace, Facebook and Twitter?

While all may be considered Social Networks, are there differences that may make one more attractive than the other?

Those of you who belong to either or both, please explain it so that those of us from the Stone Age can understand. LOL

    Thanks! :)

  • Is there a way to avoid garbled characters that result from copying and pasting?

Meaning, when you copy and paste from a document that doesn't show such characters in the first place. I have tried to no avail to find a way to undo it, but it is extremely time consuming and there is only 24 hours in one day and cant' spend them all in the computer.

Is there a short cut to either prevent that or avoid it in the first place?

  • Constitutionally, can the President of the US make an executive decision if Congress fails to pass legislation?

I'm just wondering if there can be a way to resolve issue that is vitally important to the nation without having to go through Congress especially if it can't or won't agree.

  • Is there a Canadian equivalent to the Federal Trade Commission?

I'm an American who has been living in Canada for over 2 and 1/2 years now. For several years now, I have been forwarding suspicious phis-hing emails to the Federal Trade Commission email (spam@uce.gov). However, I have been wondering if there is a Canadian equivalent that I should be reporting such emails to that I could forward either instead of, or in addition to. After all, my computer is in Canada and so is my ISP, and wonder if the US FTC has any jurisdiction over such suspicious emails.

Thanks in advance for any answers you can provide in this matter, that could potentially benefit all of us.

  • Is someone with bad credit safe from identity theft?

Meaning, I know someone who says that society is now making a big deal over it and that it will never happen to him, because he already has bad credit, mostly due to his own choices anyway, and that the best way to be safe from identity theft is to already have bad credit.

    How true is that?

  • Can a window unit air conditioner be placed and used indoors?

My husband and I inherited a large window unit air conditioner from a relative who recently passed away. Unfortunately, it is too big to be able to place on the only window we have in our apartment, and unfortunately the apartment doesn't have air conditioning, only heating.

Is there a way to still be able to use the unit, placing it somewhere indoors?

This is something totally new to both of us, and don't know what to do.

  • Why did my glass bakeware shatter to pieces?

Days ago, I bought a giant yam (about 5 lbs, easily). This morning, I set up my oven at 350ºF (relatively low temperature for baking), punched holes into my yam, wrapped it in aluminum foil, put it in the bakeware and then put the bakeware in the oven once the preheat light went off.

Initially, I let it cook for one hour, but by the end of that hour, it wasn't soft enough so I added another 45 minutes to the time.

Once the last 45 minutes of baking time was over, I took it out of the oven and put it on top of the stove. As I was trying to take the aluminum foil off the yam and proceeded to see how much it had softened at that point, suddenly the bakeware shattered all over the place (it was a miracle I wasn't hurt as I was standing right there and glass could have easily gone to my face or body).

I'm still at awe as to why something like this would happen. Can anyone explain? I consider myself knowledgeable enough about the basic laws of physics, this is mindboggling.

  • Why can't many businesses answer a simple question such as price?

If I call the convenience store and ask them what the price for today's gas is, they won't tell me. If I call a business that advertises certain items and ask for a price, they won't give it, instead they want to know everything about you so that they can send you a catalog.

Why can't people have enough consideration for other people's time to answer a simple question that doesn't take that long to answer?

    What's up with that?

  • Where did the adage "The customer is always right" come from?

This is a general question, and it can be applied to any situation you can think of.

The immediate answer is that the customer pays your salary, but even if that's true, such an adage tends to put the customer in a superior position, instead of one of equality, which is what business is supposed to be.

  • Is this a question/answer forum, or is this forum for debate?

I'm sick and tired of reading questions that are non-ending because the questioner is adding to the question by debating with the answerers.

If this isn't against the rules, it most certainly should be: This is supposed to be an EDUCATIONAL forum, and not turn this into another Yahoo Message Board where all kinds of meanspirited idiots ruined it for anyone and everyone who wanted to have an honest and fun give-and-take.

Do you want for Yahoo to eventually remove this forum the way the did Yahoo Message Boards?

  • Can a former boss issue orders?

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070711/ap_on_go_co/fi...

Personally I would take no orders from someone I no longer work for.

Would "order" be a wrong choice of words for this article?

  • Anyone who has ever been involved with Moms 4 Net Profit?

The advertising sounds really good as written on their website. However, so does many other "business opportunities" offers, but before I ask them for information, I would like to ask anyone who may have been there, as to whether this is legit..... or a scam.

  • How can I get a SUCCESSFUL reverse number lookup?

I'm sick and tired of receiving calls from people or businesses who don't want to display either their phone numbers or their names, and where I live I don't have the capability of blocking such unwanted calls.

The caller (as the intruder) is the one who bears the responsibility of disclosing who he/she is and who they represent, and to want to hide their identity is to be callous and cowardly, and that most definitely include businesses who should be more than willing to identify themselves if for no other reason, in order to stay in business.

Those who want to block their identity are cowards who do not deserve my time or consideration, and are NOT welcome to call me.

  • What do you know about "emotional forgetfulness"?

I read an article a while back about a pill that induces "emotional forgetfulness" mainly for people with PTSD -- But as usual, most so-called "ethicists" want to put a damper on it.

Personally, I think that this would be a good thing, not only for those who suffer from PTSD, but also for those who are living the effects of childhood abuse, whether it is emotional, physical or sexual.

What is this pill, and how can it be obtained?

  • How can I stop my mind from wandering when I'm reading a book?

This is a problem I have everytime I decide to read a book. For instance, I may read a paragraph that I tend to relate with something going on in my life, and while my mind wanders, I continue reading but I'm no longer taking in what I'm reading, because my mind is somewhere else.

How do I stop doing that, so that I don't have to go back and re-read everything I missed?

  • Is it safe to put aluminum foil ON TOP of electric stove elements?

I'm tired of having to clean spilled food under the elements and if they are not thoroughly cleaned, the smoke alarm goes off when they're turned off.

I thought about solving this problem by putting aluminum foil on top of the stove elements so that I don't have to clean up such mishaps anymore.

Has anyone else done this? Is it effective? More importantly, is it safe?
