  • How to bid a drywall job?

I'm a college student with a lot of construction experience but never much contracting on my own. I've got a client with a 22' x 13' dining room, (8' ceilings) 100 year old farmhouse, all plaster. They would like all the original trim taken down, plaster/lath removed on the walls only, insulation put in, new drywall put up, replace old mill work, then apply a fresh coat of paint. Materials are a no brainier to calculate... And not even that much... Maybe $300 total... I'm just looking for some tips on how to come up with a price for the job... I'm used to making $11/hr and thats that... But obviously as my own contractor I should be able to charge a little more. I want to maximize my profits while also keeping within the client’s budget. Any advice from a professional would be great. Also from people who have had similar work done.

  • Used Boot camp to install Win 7 on my 2008 15" Mac Book but now I can't find Mac OS X partition?

I sat up boot camp on my 2008 15" MacBook which was running Snow Leopard. I did all the configurations and stuff... So my Windows partition was something like 38.3GB but now I can't seem to find the Snow Leopard partition anywhere... I would really like to go back to it to get some files off of there... Or at the very least delete it so I have more space for my windows partition... Already tried to hold down options during boot but only windows partition shows up...

  • Calculating dampening effect using cylinders. (Plastic syringes) Egg drop!?

I'm going to enter an egg drop challenge. After a little brain storming I decided to build a rig with plastic syringes as legs. (Big ones like they use for horses.) They would be filled with water or maybe oil... My idea is they would be extended before the drop and when they contact the ground they would force the fluid through the smaller opening allowing it to still fall but in theory fall slower for just a moment... IDK... When I get home I'll build a mock up... I figure I could just add a small valve to regulate the flow into the "overflow tank" like a small little bottle or something... Maybe water is to much just air might do? I took physics so I should be able to roughly calculate how fast my rig will hit the ground given its weight and starting height, also should be able to derive the approx force. If anyone knows the calculations off the top of there heads please feel free to write them below.. This isn't a class asignment or anything like that! LOL I just like going above and beyond! Its actually for a Maker Club I'm going to! Also given the force applied to each cylinder, the size of the piston and hole in the back, how do I calculate the speed they will colaps? Probably need fluids or dynamics... Don't take them till next year... :( Thanks for any help!

  • Starting My own Business ( I have many interest and talent...)?

I'm a Purdue student studying Manufacturing Engineering... I've always dreamed of someday opening my own design firm when I'm out of college but I still have a couple of years and quit frankly I'm starting to lose interest in college... I just don't feel challenged enough and it's kind of like child's play...

Though I still have that dream in the back of my head I'm toying with the idea of laying it all down and going in a different direction. I mean I've been tinkering all my life and have MANY skills and talents. If you need some obscure little one off project or machine build that you just don't have the ability to come up with or make on your own I'd be the guy to call!!!! So I can make or fix just about anything... Also I'd really like to get into the custom concert counter top business!!! I can make fiberglass and epoxy molds! Plaster molds! Good with electronics, electricity, and carpentry! Even do pretty good with metal sculpture and would love to spend more time working on that.. You name it, I'm just a very well rounded individual! Don't like to brag but I guess sometimes you gotta just a little... Anyhow... With sooooo many interest how does one make money doing them???

    Thanks for any help!

Write the expression as a sun, difference, or multiple of logs.

    log base 7 X radical X^2 + 7

    So far I've got

    log base 7 X 1/2(x^2 +7)

Where do I go from here?

  • Wanna Differentiate (x^7)/(tan2x)?

    Differentiate (x^7)/(tan2x)

I tried to use the quotient rule which only got very long and confusing resulting in no right answer...

    This is what I got:

    (7x^6)/(tan^2(2x)) - (2x^7sec^2(2x))/(tan^2(2x))

    Computer said it was wrong..

  • Need to differentiate: y = 5(tan(5x))^4?

    I need to differentiate: y = 5(tan(5x))^4

Honestly my book just sucks and there are no examples... An answer would be great! But an explanation would be even better!

    Thanks

So... I haven't had a soda for nearly 8 years but they never seemed to make me more hyper or anything.... I drink coffee ALL the time because I enjoy the taste but it NEVER gives me energy... 4-5 cups before bed or in the morning does nothing!!! Tea does nothing.... And I've even tried energy drinks before but nothing... I always here people say they feel more energy after drinking such things.... Is there something wrong with me? Will it maybe start to effect me after time? I'm 21 about 5' 8" and 165lbs thanks....

  • Why does wine taste awful, first time.?

Ok so... I turned 21 about a month ago... Always said I would never drink... But what the heck... Gave it a shot today! A friend suggested Oliver Sangria, so I bought a bottle, pored a glass and it was awful! It felt like it was burning my throat and it had a weird after taste... Two of my friends said its an acquired taste... Does that mean if I drink some more it will grow on me? IDK... Like I said this was my first drink EVER and it was rather disappointing to say the least. I love to seek out and drink all different kinds of juices! Guess I figured it would be like another juice.. But it wasn't... Maybe it was the kind/brand? IDK... I trusted his word... Thanks for any advice.

  • Convert a B&W image to tiny dot's varying in distance apart?

I need a way to convert a digital photograph to an image comprised of tiny dots! All the dots MUST be the SAME size... So I figure the software would have to vary the distance between them to create dark areas and light areas! Thanks for any help!

  • Is there a way to make a networked drive on a server truly virtual?

My brother and I have a few old PC's laying around... Thought it would be a great time to create a server!!! I have two 1TB drives that I want to have mirror each other at all times and use as general storage for my school files, CAD files, and audio/video backups... Also a 160Gb that I would like to set up as a Time Machine for my MacBook. And he has a 500Gb that he wants to use for general storage.

Question is how do we make all this work??? A little guidance would suffice! Don't need a step by step How-To... Sure I can find one of those online once I know what to search for!!!

Right now we have the latest version of windows home server and it works sort of alright... But I can't figure out how to link my 160GB for Mac use... Plug it in (it's external USB) but doesn't show up... Difrent file system or something...

Also once we get all this set up how do we access our files from outside our home? Like say were at a friends house and want to watch a movie we have backed up or at school and need to grab a file???

Again just looking for some guidance!!! Not expecting a full guide... Unless you have links then bring them on!!!

  • Homemade electric water heater. Take a look tell me what you think?

OK so I recently acquired a massive (19"di x 45" wide) roll of fiberglass! My brother, sister, and mother would all like me to construct a hot tub! I'm very mechanically inclined so I said sure! In-line water heaters are super expensive... So I figure why not get an electric water heater element, coil some coper tubing around it (not touching,) and incase the whole thing inside a welded metal box which then gets filled with some sort of oil! The real thing would be a bit more complicated but you get the idea! Anyhow... My question is this, would the oil inside expand like boiled water would? Thus the potential for an explosion? If not then I'm a go!!! What type of oil would be best? I was thinking vegetable? Maybe even fryer oil?
