2 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoBest Romance Novel? On the Kindle, even better!?
I'm looking to read a romance novel -- something incredibly romantic and sweep-you-off-your-feet. I prefer historical stories; but if the book's really good, I'll go with modern.
I appreciate your help and I promise to award for best answer!
1 AnswerBooks & Authors1 decade agoSubstitute for eggplant?
I have a recipe I will be making that is a stir-fry of shrimp with eggplant in garlic sauce. Unfortunately, I don't like eggplant. Is there a vegetable that is similar or a good substitution? The recipe calls for "1 med. eggplant, peeled and cut into 3/4 inch dice". Thank you so much!!!

2 AnswersBoats & Boating1 decade agoCrochet Pattern I Would Like to Make and Sell - Can I (Legally)?
I found a crochet pattern for a handbag on the internet. I don't want to duplicate or sell the pattern, I want to sell the finished product - the handbag. The pattern is copyrighted and states "All rights reserved. May not be reproduced in any form without prior permission. May not be used for commercial purposes." So does this apply only to the pattern itself, or to the finished product? Again, I don't want to sell the pattern, I only want to to crochet the purse and sell that. Thank you for your help!

12 AnswersElections1 decade agoYou Tube keeps defaulting to Spanish site? (I don't speak Spanish!)?
For some reason, whenever I enter "youtube.com" (whether I do the entire address http://www/ or just the last part) it defaults to the Spanish page for You Tube. Even when I log into my account, everything is still in Spanish! I've been a member for a year or so and never had this happen until now. I've clicked on the logo, manually entered the addy... how do I get the page to stop loading in Spanish? I would try and contact You Tube directly; but, I can't read the Spanish and can't figure out how to contact them. Thank you so much!
2 AnswersYouTube1 decade agoHow many desserts should I bring?
My friends are having a bbq this weekend and there will 16 - 18 adults attending. I said I would bring desserts, and I'm just wondering: How many should I bring? I have no idea how much people will consume. Are there any guidelines?
I thought I would bring a mix of things... cookies, pie, cake, etc.
Thank you!

8 AnswersEntertaining1 decade agoThread Crochet: How to assemble motifs for a tablecloth?
I've made doilies before; but this is my first tablecloth. It requires a total of 176 motifs, and when finished the tablecloth will be 11 rows of 16 motifs each. Oh, the motifs are square-shaped. This pattern has me assembling as I go, i.e., the first motif is made and completed. Then the second (and all remaining) motif is joined to the first motif while crocheting the last row. The joining round has two separate instructions... for One Side Joining and Two Side Joining. I understand all that and how to join... but I am not sure *how* to add the motifs. Do I just make a row of 16 motifs and then for the 17th, just start joining to Motif #1 on Row 1? Or, do I join in a diagonal fashion? Like make Motif #1, the attach Motif #2 to Motif #1's bottom edge; then Motif #3 joined to Motif #1's right edge; then Motif #4 joined to M#2's right edge & M#3's bottom edge?
Am I over-thinking this?

2 AnswersHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoI'm 42; I'm 5'10'; weigh 250lbs and I want to go to the beach. What will you think of me?
I really want to know what people think... I mean if there a few "fat-bashers" out there but most people are sympathetic, then it's not such a hostile territory out there on the sand trying to fit in. I'm 42, woman, not trying to be sexier than I am; but not trying to dowdy by any means. I wear a conservative one piece bathing suit that covers very well. Because I am shy and ashamed of my looks, I only venture from my trusty towel to the ocean and then back. I'm 5'10" and weigh (god help me) 250 pounds. Mainly in my abdomen and butt/thighs/hips. I am not proud. Most people think I weigh much less... but it is my height that throws people off. In NO WAY do I look like Cindy Crawford! I'm Fat! A bit jiggly fat in the thighs, but that's about it. I have a chance to go to a great beach this weekend and I just want to know if I'll be stared at uncomfortably and made fun of or laughed. Will anyone be yelling harpoon?

Occasionally, I receive "Mailer Daemon@...." messages stating that a message was either undeliverable or bounced back to me. The problem is, I'm not sending these emails and I have no idea who the recipient is.
Is there any way to report this to Mac (I'm using a MacBook, OSX 10.5.2) and Mac's mail program.
I don't want to get into trouble for stuff I have no idea about.
Thanks!
1 AnswerAbuse and Spam1 decade agoA "Study In Lobster" Dinner Menu?
A "Study In Lobster" Dinner Menu? I am trying to plan a very special dinner for some friends of ours who just gave birth to their first child. Their favorite food is lobster, so I will be flying in some live lobsters for the occasion. I am a gourmet cook (at home; not professional) but I have a really tough time planning menus. What I would like to try and do is have a menu where each course incorporates lobster somehow. I realize lobster can be very rich, so balancing different dishes and balancing the ingredients within those dishes will be key to a successful dinner. I hope someone here can provide a several course menu and recipes/links or ingredient details. Since I will be "playing" with the lobster as main ingredient with the appetizers and other courses, should I just serve simple lobster and butter for the main course? Thank you so much for your help! PS Our friend is a true wine expert, he will be bringing the wine(s) based on the menu. Thanks!
6 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoPeking Duck Recipe from "Best Recipe" Cookbook (Cook's Illustrated)?
I *swear* I read a recipe for Peking Duck in one of the "Best Recipe" cookbooks put out by the Cook's Illustrated and America's Test Kitchen; however, after looking through what books I have, I can't find it anywhere. Very frustrating!
It might be in the Roasting & Grilling cookbook; but I'm not sure... maybe it was a completely different cookbook/author all together.
I really was looking for the recipe and for the information written beforehand -- about the best ways to dry/air the duck and if there was any pre-roasting cooking and such.
Does anyone know where I can find this or would be willing to post it? I would truly appreciate it, and I promise to give a Best Answer!
Thanks so much! All the best!
2 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoInformation for "Resty" Medicine by Taisho/Japan?
I was recently passing through Tokyo airport and went to the drugstore and asked for something I could take to help with anxiety... I had been on a plane for nine hours and had twelve more hours to go. I was given an over-the-counter product called "Resty" and the only item in english on the entire package is www.taisho.co.jp . It's a powder that you put in your mouth then wash down with liquid. It worked great! I would like to know more information... like what's in it! And if it's possible to purchase this product anywhere here in the states or the internet. Thank you so very much!
3 AnswersJapan1 decade agoTreats Recipe for Alpacas?
A friend of mine raises alpacas and I would love to make the critters some treats; but, finding recipes on the net has been just about impossible.
I did find a recipe for "Camelid Cookies" but I was wondering if there was more out there?
I have a book of horse treats... can those recipes be used? Is there anything that must be omitted -- stuff that alpacas can not eat? I would never forgive myself if I made them sick!

2 AnswersOther - Pets1 decade agoBest Shoes That Offer Alot of Support for Pulled Tendons?
In January, my husband went to the doctor because his foot was really swollen and had been for a few weeks. The doctor said he had pulled the tendons in his foot from doing alot of walking in his work shoes (dress shoes, basically) that did not give the right amount of support, cushion, etc.
I would like to buy some shoes for him that are as stylish as possible (he is a professional) that will be best for his recuperating foot. He walked with a cane up until this past week, and we don't want to undo all the good.
Is there a shoe company/brand that offers what he needs? Also, what exactly should I look for in a shoe -- if there are technical terms and such?
I truly appreciate your help with this! As always, I promise 10 points for the Best Answer. If you can provide as much info about your recommendations, it would be a big help!
Thank you very much!
1 AnswerOther - Health1 decade agoHighest Strength AF Zoom Lens for Nikon D40?
I just bought a Nikon D40 and it came with a lens that is a "AF Snikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G II ED" -- does that make any sense? As you can tell, I am a total amateur!
I would like to get a very powerful zoom, I think it may be called a "macro" (?) for taking detailed pictures of flowers and nature. Is it possible to get a lens like this in an AF? I love taking pictures in the insides of flowers, as they make a very interesting photo. I would like to catch all the tiniest details.
I went to the Nikon website and was so overwhelmed. I didn't have any idea where to look or what to look for.
I would truly appreciate your help, and of course, I promise a best answer for the best answer!

2 AnswersCameras1 decade agoHomeopathic/Herbal Remedy for Anxiety?
I have occasional bouts of anxiety that can be triggered by situations that are unfamiliar to me, pms, & insomnia. I've tried prescriptions (ativan, xanax) but I've just moved, & understandably, my new doc (psychiatrist) isn't real gung-ho on just dosing a controlled substance. My insomnia (it's a circle - I'm thinking too much, can't fall asleep, brain goes into over-drive, still can't sleep, then I start getting anxious & around 3am I'm crabby & tired & unable to sleep) I've tried Lunesta, Rozerem, & Ambien to no avail. Stronger drugs work; but I wake up so tired/hung-over. Melatonin gives me nightmares. Searching on the internet, I read about 2 homeopathic remedies... arsenicum album & lycopodium. Does anyone know anything about these guys? Can they be taken together? How should they be dosed? Etc? I *don't* want to get high, I don't want to "escape"... I just want something that works & not something to take every day/several times a day -- only when needed & a few doses are ok.
10 AnswersAlternative Medicine1 decade agoPlanning a Party - % of 'Yesses'?
I'm trying to plan a Super Bowl party (on Feb 3) and want to do a crawfish boil. I need to place a pre-order for the crawfish a.s.a.p. because they are very popular this time of year for parties and Mardi Gras.
I will be sending (hopefully tomorrow or the next day) 25 invitations for a total of 50 guests. What percentage of invitees will say "yes"? Is there a formula or rule of thumb? I wish I could wait for the RSVP's; but, I'm not able to. I need to pre-order the crawfish today or tomorrow!
