Children removed from their parents?
Are there any adults on here who were removed from their natural parents as children due to neglect or abuse and would be prepared to describe if their lives improved with a new family?
Also have they been in contact with their natural parents since growing up and tried to understand their parents situation?
Thank you for replying.
2 AnswersParenting10 years agoUbuntu. Keyboard is all mixed up.?
I installed Ubuntu to run alongside Windows 7 to see if I would like and understand it. I remember when it was installing I had a choice of English language to tick. I went for the one with punctuation. Now when I type my name craig, it comes out as jpaci.
How do I correct this problem or remove Ubuntu altogether please?
1 AnswerOther - Hardware10 years agoBest search engine for Windows 7 64 bit please.?
My computer runs Windows 7 with 64 bit. What would be the best search engine to use. IE. Google, Firefox etc. I have tried Internet Explorer 8 and 9 but they seem to have trouble playing Adobe Flash player. It won't work. It downloads but each time I try to use it, it says I need to download it again. At the moment I am using Google Chrome that works with Flash player but it is slow and cumbersome to use. Any advice gratefully received on how to make this machine zip along as it should. I have done virus scans which come back clean.
7 AnswersGoogle1 decade agopaypal keeping seller's money?
I have sold a mobile phone on Ebay and despite saying that I didn't want payment via Paypal, the buyer paid the money into a Paypal account. I then had to set up an account to transfer the money to my bank which can take up to 3 days. Today I get an email saying that Paypal think I am dishonest and are therefore hanging onto my money for 3 weeks or until the buyer posts positive feedback. Needless to say I am hopping mad at being mistrusted on my very first transaction and even more mad that these incompetents have kept my money. It is all the more galling because I didn't want anything to do with these clowns in the first place.
Does anyone have any good advice on this matter please?
8 AnswersCorporations1 decade agoBritish Heart Foundation Charity Shops?
In Nottingham city centre, a BHF charity shop has opened selling second hand goods mainly TVs, 3 piece suites, beds, fridges, freezers, wardrobes etc etc.
What I am asking is, has one opened in your town/city and have your eyes watered at the prices?
Considering they are given these items and they get discounted rents/rates on their premises, I find it really galling to see their greed in how much they charge for secondhand goods. For example: A brown, bashed up Record cabinet that wouldn't survive bonfire night - £25. A 3 piece suite in rust brown draylon circa 1970 - £465. A second hand fridge - £165.
These prices are just greed. You can buy new for less. I feel that some of the charity shops are taking the p*ss by their outrageous money grabbing prices.
I now no longer buy from these national charities and only support the local ones where more of your money goes to the good cause rather than swanky offices, expense accounts, company cars and huge salaries.
5 AnswersCorporations1 decade agoFreegle/freecyclers, a waste of time.?
I have been advertising items that come my way on the local Freegle group. Being a qualified electrician, I check items over, clean them and offer them. The response is usually overwhelming and so I offer it to those that seem most in need.
The items I offer are fridges, freezers, electric cookers, televisions etc. All perfectly good and working. Today I have stopped doing it. It simply isn't worth the effort from the no-shows. I'll ring you back brigade, can you deliver it for free crowd, fill it up at Tesco on your way.
I am saving people lots of money especially those who are setting up their first homes, but they can't be bothered to collect.
Looks like the tip for the items I still have left that are still working and have years left in them. This is the very thing I was trying to avoid.

There have been so may great and able people in the world, that my only regret is that I have net so few of them.
My fantasy would be a dinner party where I could invite them and listen to them all. Who would you invite and why?
6 AnswersEntertaining1 decade agoShould men remain anonymous if accussed of rape?
The new Government is intending to give men the right to remain anonymous when accused of rape. After too many cases of spiteful women claiming that they have been raped when later, it becomes clear that they are lying. Have they bought this on themselves?

Hampshire Constabulary have introduced pedal power for plods. Talk about cutbacks! Villains would wet themselves laughing at the prat peddling this with legs going like bees wings.
5 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police1 decade agoAccident. Tripped over small shopping basket on wheels in shop?
I have just come back from the hospital with a dislocated shoulder and a whacking bump on my head after tripping over one of those stupid baskets on wheels. They are the same size as the normal basket you carry but have wheels so you can tow them behind you. I was in the shop and some woman was pushing hers, right under my feet as she came around the corner. I fell badly, dislocated my should and smashed my head on the corner of a shelve. Lots of blood, lots of pain and a 3 day stay in hospital. I'm I the only one that this has happened to? I have always they thought they were dangerous and unnecessary. Why have they been introduced at all? If you need a trolley, get one that can be seen, not something down around your feet when you are looking at items at shelf height. Do you think I have good grounds to sue?
12 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoBeen fined for alleged dropping of litter?
My local council tried to fine a man for dropping a cigarette butt out of his car window. One of their warders claimed he saw it. Luckily the man involved was able to prove that his car was parked elsewhere and he could prove it with CCTV.
This kind of blatant abuse of councils who are so quick to fine and so very difficult to deal with, is getting out of hand. These fines have nothing to do with cleaning up the streets but more to do with raising revenue. Very much like speed cameras which everybody knows have nothing to do with road safety.
My advice to anyone who is accused of dropping litter is to fight it. Remember the councils have to prove their allegations.
6 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoReplacing computer monitor with television/monitor combined?
I am thinking of replacing my monitor with a 22" monitor. For roughly the same price I can get a TV and use it as a monitor. My question is: are there any pitfalls in this? Would the picture quality be poorer as a monitor or would I be getting something for nothing in that I could use it as a television if required. I have seen a Dell monitor for £450. What is so special about that? I do understand that I will have to upgrade my graphics card to HDMI and possibly the memory from 1024GB. To do everything I want will cost £300+ I might as well buy a new computer and get all new technology for another £200. I'm so confused what to do. Thanks.
4 AnswersMonitors1 decade agoA Conservative win - remember Thatcher in 1979?
There are a lot of parallels between 1979 and today. In 1979 we had a Labour government that had bankrupted the nation. The Prime Minister of the time was as weak and incompetent as our dear old Gordon. In all the polls Labour was leading. Margaret Thatcher was trailing 20 points behind all the way. Look what happened. She swept into Downing Street with a sizable majority.
I firmly believe that you can never predict the outcome of an election because despite what people say, it is always between them and the ballot box.
The public are sick to death with Labour and how they have flooded the country with immigrants, wrecked the economy and lied through their teeth as they have patronised us. I predict a sizable win for David Cameron.

8 AnswersOther - News & Events1 decade agoRecycling household rubbish?
One council has now introduced 9 different bins, bags and boxes for the residents to recycle their rubbish. This is despite protests that many don't have the room for all of them.
I'm all in favour of recycling, but not at the end of a gun of a £1000 fine if you accidentally put the wrong item in the wrong box or you cannot close your bin lid because it is an inch too full.
This has now taken on pantomime proportions of town hall bullying and another way to screw the tax payer.
Who has had experience of this ridiculous idea, especially when we know the councils lack the facilities to process the waste and ship most of it off to the third world thereby negating any green savings.
9 AnswersGreen Living1 decade agoVirus locked my laptop. Not able to gain access.?
I am running Vista on my laptop and I got a virus with a password that prevents it loading and starting. As soon as it starts loading it wants this rogue password. I have been told that a new motherboard is the only way to by pass this problem at a cost of £160. Has anybody got any ideas please on how to hack this password?
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoUpgrade computer or buy a new one?
My current computer has a memory of 1GB and a hard drive of 500. ( not sure of technical term ). There are spare slots to boost memory to 4GB. Plans are afoot to change the monitor from the 17" to a 22" jobby. The computer is used to download and watch films/television. Would it be worth doing these upgrades, adding Windows 7 from XP or buying a new one please?

3 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agoEven more female teachers sleeping with pupils?
Yet another female teacher is in court accused of sleeping with a 16 year old boy in her care. This is getting out of hand. We seem to be getting to the point where female teachers are treating classrooms as sex playgrounds.
This has certainly nailed that old chestnut that all paedophiles are male.
8 AnswersTeaching1 decade agoAre you sat on the housing waiting list in Peterborough UK?
How do you feel that a Czech family who arrived 2 weeks ago, can't speak english and have been given a 3 bedroomed council house already? They have a car, benefits and still want a bigger house because they have 7 children. How much is this family costing us? Why are we putting up with councils and this corrupt, incompetent Government giving all our social housing to immigrants whilst denying those who are born here, lived here all their lives , pay their taxes here and find themselves at the bottom of the list for housing, doctors, schools etc. What legislation and authority do the people in the allocations department use to give houses to people who have just arrived. How do they research their backgrounds to see there isn't a 5 bed villa back home? Why aren't they classed as making themselves intentionally homeless? As a UK citizen, you try giving up your home to work in another part of the UK and ask for a council house. You know the reply. They are taking the p*ss
