How to change CDL from another state to California?
I am wondering why it seem that California seems to be the only state in the nation that does not have reciprocity regarding CDL licenses when moving in from another state? In other words, in nearly every case, when a person moves from state to state and wants to transfer a valid CDL all that's required to obtain a CDL in the new state is to fill out an application, pay a fee and maybe take a vision test period. But according to the info I have, this is not the case in California. Rather a person wanting to move to CA and change over their CDL has to basically start from scratch, completing all written tests, basic and for any endorsements and even take a driving exam. Also for bus drivers I was asked what kind of bus I drive? My reply....The kind with seats and an engine. Seriously, CA has separate sub licenses for each type of bus? transit, school, disabled dial a ride? and on and on! Seems crazy and would imply endless training and fees. Why only in California? Any other state, move in, pay a fee and get your license changed over. As a side note, I was even told that my car couldn't be registered in California due to emissions requirements and my car NOT being a CA car. Aarrgghh! the question.... Why???
4 AnswersInsurance & Registration10 years agoDo I have to take a written test if switching a CDL drivers license from another state to California?
I am considering moving back to CA from Washington and have a valid WA Commercial drivers license (CDL). from what I can gather CA has no drivers license reciprocity with other states and seems to require new residents to completely re-certify to switch over a drivers license to California by taking all written tests over, and also does not recognize the Federal DOT medical card and requires recertification of a physical as well to get the CA med cert. Is this all true? In other words, why can't I just surrender my out of state drivers licence pay a fee and be issued a CA license like every other state?
6 AnswersInsurance & Registration1 decade agoWhat type of refrigerant does a 1992 Lincoln town car use?
I have a high end 1992 Town Car Cartier and want to recharge the AC but am told it may contain R-12 which would require a costly retrofit to R134A. Others have told me that some Lincoln's in late 1992 did come with R-134A. Any thoughts on which type would be more likely to be the case and if necessary, how expensive would a retrofit from R-12 to R-134A be? Thank's!
11 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWhy when trading your can for another is yours always considered junk and their's perfect?
I've noticed that whenever I have tried to trade in a car and get something different, the dealers claim my cars have little or no value while whatever type of car I'm wanting is supposedly worth so much more? Case in point I have a really nice ex-police car, a 1994 Chevy Caprice in good shape, everything works etc and I was wanting to trade for something a bit smaller in this case an older 1989 midsize Olds Cierra and yet somehow the dealer thought his was worth way more. I went into space! Even reasoning with book value seems a moot point. I just want to swap straight across for something older and smaller though it is not looking to be likely.
1 AnswerOther - Cars & Transportation1 decade agoAre there any remaining Boeing 707's still opperating in revenue passenger service anywhere in the world?
I am interested in flying on a Boeing 707 or Douglas DC8 in revenue passenger service before these historic jets are gone forever. I have heard that a few thrid world nations might still use these aircraft but have not found any proof.
