Why would a cat who's never hissed all of a sudden his?
My friend is out of town for the week. The girl who goes over to feed the cats when she's gone said that yesterday Bucky tried to bite her and hissed at her. He's usually very friendly toward her. Yesterday was strange. She said that he's eating and drinking normally, but he would run away from her all day. What could have brought this on?

1 AnswerToys1 decade agoCat had a swollen right side?
My aunt had to put her cat down yesterday. However the cat lived a great long life of 20 years. She had swelling on her right side and her paws on that side were three times normal size. She had trouble standing and could barely walk. So my aunt made the decision to euthanize her. The vet said she had never seen a cat with that much swelling on one side. She had no idea what caused it. I realize this is after the fact, but out of curiosity, has anyone seen this condition before. I'd like to know what happened.
P.S. She was an indoor cat.
2 AnswersCats1 decade agoIs it safe to put a 12 year old cat under to get his teeth cleaned?
My friend has a male cat, around 12 yrs old. His teeth are pretty dirty and is on an antibiotic for a tooth infection. The medicine is helping as he is eating normally again. However, the vet said his teeth may need to be cleaned, but also stressed that at his age he may not come out of the anesthetic. It's a tough call. Any vets out there?
9 AnswersCats1 decade agoConstipated Cat?
My friend's cat is very constpated. Hasn't pooped in 2-3 days. Coughing up hairballs, and not eating. She has given him mineral oil 3 times but not doing any good. What else can she do? The constipation is not threatening, but the fact that he is not eating is scary. I think he is about 12 years old.

12 AnswersCats1 decade agoMixing Laxatone in my cat's water?
I have a 20 yr old cat who has trouble pooping. He hates his laxatone but I have to find a way to give it to him. Someone suggested mixing a dab in some water and let him drink. Is this a good idea, or will it cause more problem?
1 AnswerCats1 decade agoMy 20 year old cat sometimes goes 2-3 days without pooping?
He is 20, and like people they start to slow down. My concern is how many days will be a danger point. I give him milk occasionally, to try to get him going but it doesn't seem to help. Does milk actually constipate cats. I've always heard it gives them diarhea, but never constipate them.
7 AnswersCats1 decade agoIs it ok to give a cat salmon with a little table salt sprinkled on it?
I gave my cat a couple very small pieces forgetting I sprinkled a bit on it. It wasn't much.
8 AnswersCats1 decade agoAnybody who has or has had a 19+ year old cat, please answer.?
How many times a day does or did your cat pee? My cat is almost 20. Past couple months I've started paying attention to his pee frequency. He was at 4-5, mostly 5. For the past 3 days he has gone 6 times a day. I asked two vets and got conflicting answers. One said way too much and suggested a blood test, and even dialysis, which I think putting a 20-yr-old cat on a machine is silly. No blood test either. Taking him to the vet is stressful for both of us. I'm sure he has some kidney failure at his age, and you can't stop it. What will a blood test do anyway. Just confirm the renal failure.
I asked the vet at Petsmart yesterday and she said 6 times is not too bad. Cats go twice as much as dogs, which go 2-3 times a day. I did switch his food from Iams Active Mature to Royal Canin Mature 27, which has 5% less protein than Iams. He likes it better than Iams too it seems.
He eats well, no other signs of trouble. Just the increased peeing.
4 AnswersCats1 decade agoMy cat's bottom jaw quivers after eating a certain crunchy snack?
I give him this Friskies crunchy snack. Sometimes after crunching one, he will open his mouth wide as if to get it out of his teeth, and his bottom jaw will quiver uncontrollably once or twice. Last night the quivering was prolonged, about a minute, and he seemed to be gagging. He doesn't do this with anything else he eats, just those. I'm thinking that this snack is harder than others and it takes him more effort to chew it, and because he is almost 20, his jaw gets tired. Needless to say, I'm no longer feeding him those. He has completely recovered and is fine now. Any one have any ideas?
2 AnswersCats1 decade agoDoes anyone know Blackhawks Dustin Byfuglien's nationality?
He looks black, but I haven't heard this confirmed anywhere. I know he is from Minnesota. I heard him interviewed on the radio, and he does kind of sound black. I was just curious.
5 AnswersHockey1 decade agoMy cat sometimes goes two-three days without crapping.?
He is almost 20 and doesn't go as regularly anymore. It's not like he's trying to go but can't. When he has to go, he goes easily. Is this worrisome? I have heard of older cats going a week without crapping.
4 AnswersCats1 decade agoCan anyone tell me what they symptoms of feline kidney infection are?
I was just petting my cat, and he reacted when I touched the area by his kidney. He didn't scream or meow. He pees normally, no blood. Eats and drinks fine. Any ideas? BTW, He's almost 20.
5 AnswersCats1 decade agoWhat is a normal time between pees for a cat?
Just curious. My cat varies between 4.5-7.5 hrs. Sometimes he will go a little longer, up to 9 hrs.
4 AnswersCats1 decade agoMy cat's pee foams up at the end?
I have a 19-yr-old cat. He pees normally, but lately I have noticed that when he finishes there is foam at the top before it gets soaked up with the litter. Can this be the urines reaction with the litter doing this, or can it be an infection? He always pees inside his box, doesn't strain at all, and pees every 5-7 hours. Anyone else have this?
9 AnswersCats1 decade agoMy cat acts strange when he has to poop.?
He is 19. When he has to poop, he will walk around his litter box, meowing occasionally at me. Then jumps up and off my bed a couple times on his way back to it. He will paw at his litter for a while. Then after about 5-15 minutes of this he will get in position and do his business. When pooping, he doesn't cry out at all, and everything comes out ok. The act of pooping is normal, but it's the 5-10 mins before I wonder about. This has been occuring for the past few years, possibly even before that because at our old house his box was in the basement and not in view, but I do remember sometimes he'd start acting wildly then run downstairs. Does anyone else have a cat that does this?
5 AnswersCats1 decade agoHow can I tell if my cat has a bladder/urinary infection?
This may be just his personality, but sometimes before he will pee he will walk around the house, meow occasionally, then go to his water bowl. Then go pee. When in his box, he doesn't strain, and a good amount freely comes out. I watched for blood, none came out. He always goes in his box. No trickle or anything. He pees maybe every 6 or 7 hrs. Should I worry?
9 AnswersCats1 decade agoMy cat's fang is loose?
I have a 19 year old cat. He is very healthy except for his right fang. For the past year or so, it has been growing tartar on it. The tartar falls off, then more grows. He went to the vet in June for something else. The Vet saw the tooth, but didn't seem to think it was a big deal. Now today I noticed the fang is loose. I don't know how close it is to falling off. I don't want to yank too hard. It's ensitive to touch it seems. It doesn't keep him from eating or drinking. He still eats crunchy food.
