  • Why do people think switching off dog food is the only answer to the recall?

Do they not know that there are tons of great quality kibble out there that are made with human grade ingredients and are grain free? I only ask this because it seems the general public isn't aware that brands like Innova EVO, Wellness, Canidae, and Timberwolf Organics are out there. I feed my dog Wellness mixed with Timberwolf Organics dry food, and she looks great and I NEVER worry about her food being recalled. It seems everyone wants to switch to homemade dogfoods rather than investigating what foods are good quality, with the assumption that there couldn't possibly be anything better than what they were feeding, whether Alpo, Science Diet, Nutro, or Eukanuba. I am definately NOT against making your own food for your dog, but for some people this isn't going to be a longterm solution. If you have the time I think it's great to make it yourself, but many dogs with allergies can't do this (like mine)

  • Question for Doberman Owners?

Does your doberman spin in circles when it gets excited? My female is 2.5 years old and she's been doing this since she was coordinated enough to not trip herself. And I mean spinning very fast, but not the same way a dog might chase it's tail. Anyone else's dobie or other breed for that matter spin in circles? Madison will do at least 10 in a row and usually only stops when she bumps into something or looses her footing.

  • Pet Stains?

What's the best method for getting old stains from doggie accidents out of the carpet (vomit, urine, and poop)? I cleaned the area thoroughly and it would look clean for a while and then the spot comes back. I've already shampoo'd the carpet and had it steam cleaned.

  • For people owning Pet Insurance?

Which pet insurance do you have, how much is it and how satisfied are you with it? Do you have to file a claim or do they automatically deduct the amount when you go to pay at the vet clinic?

  • Natural bones to chew on for dogs?

My dobie is allergic to a lot of different meat. She's on a venison formula dog food and is doing wonderful. So this question is about bones. She loves chewing on them and I was wondering if there would be any problems/concerns if I got some deer bones from a friend (who is going hunting this weekend) to let her chew on? Should I roast them in the oven to kill anything that may be in there? They would be extremely fresh, maybe a day old. Or should I leave them raw? The only problem with that would be how messy and stinky it is. She can't eat beef, so don't suggest I go buy some of those, and she already has pig/lamb bones. I just didn't see the point in these being thrown away if they could be used. I would take the femur bone. Any suggestions as to precautions or how to prepare it for her?

  • Which Shampoo?

Which shampoo do you find adds a lot of volume and shine but is not terribly expensive? Also a conditioner that doesn't weigh your hair down? Mine is naturally straight and not extremely full.

  • Any way to harden nails w/o using nail hardener?

My nails are very flexible b/c I have to wear gloves all day at my job. Even before that they were quite bendy. Are there supplements or specific vitamins I can take to make them stronger?
