  • 1500 heat records broken in the bible belt?

According to ABC news tonight, 1500 heat records have been broken in the middle (conservative) states of America. There is more to come. This follows documented increasing heat and unstable weather patterns.

Do you think this will make any global warming deniers to start believing in science?

  • Word for the back side of the title page of a book? A "visio" maybe?

I'm not talking about the title page, but the next page. The one with the specific copyright, publisher ISBN, cataloging info, etc.

Is it called a "visio" or something like that? I've heard a librarian use that term or similar but I'm not sure of the exact term.

When I Google "visio" I get thousands of hits for the software by the same name.

  • Help me remember a Saturday Night Live skit?

This skit I'm thinking of was from the early days of Saturday Night Live. It could be as far back as the 70s.

It was of a newscaster who was using the Latin accent to say Latin American country/city names and then he (she?) use the accent for every place name. Like Ireland, Sweden, India, etc. It was very funny, switching between all kinds of different accents.

Lastly, I'm assuming it was SNL. I can't imagine what other show it would be. But I guess I don't know for sure.

I am hoping I can find it on YouTube.

    Thanks!

  • What does the term "content area" mean in education?

Is this a general term that refers to any content or does it refer to specific content? How is "content area" different than just "content"?

For a class I am supposed to define"content area literacy." I understand what literacy means but not "content area."

  • Which is correct "am now" or "now am"?

I've always been unclear on placement of some adjectives. For example.

    I now am hungry.

    I am now hungry.

Is only one correct or can either be used?

  • What do you call people who get over-involved in media stories like Casey Anthony?

I mean the kind of people who get super-engaged in all the shows about the trial and then are convinced they know more than the judge and jury do.

Even more extreme, will take a day off work and wait around for hours so they can scream "baby killer!" at Casey Anthony.

It clearly is a kind of perspective disorder. But what is it called?

If it doesn't have a name -- what would you call it?

  • Why won't Donald Trump release his long-form birth certificate?

Donald Trump has been raising conspiratorial questions about Obama's "short-form" birth certificate.

Now Trump has released some weird birth "certificate" but it is shorter and less official than Obama's! It's clearly some sort of souvenir from the hospital for putting in a baby book.

Why would Trump do something so dumb?

  • After two years of searching, have the Birthers come up with any proof Obama was not born in America?

I hear the "Birthers" ask questions but I have yet to see any proof or facts. It's been two years! If there was evidence, they'd have it by now. Instead they just keep asking different questions.

For months they would say, "Obama is only showing us a Certificate of Live Birth... why not a Birth Certificate?" Then, after thousands of people discovered that THEY only have a certificate of life birth, the "birthers" changed the questions.

For example, most recently I heard one say, "Why dosn't Obama's certificate of live birth have a signature?" I just checked my son's certificate of live birth and it does not have a signature. (I am 100% sure my son isn't Kenyan!)

Besides, the Constitution does not require a birth certificate, anyway -- just that the president be a naturally born citizen.

So, do the birthers have any evidence that Obama was not born in America?

(Thanks for answering this -- I do not have the patience to wade through birther web sites.)

  • Isn't the "gold standard" the same as other primitive currencies like puka shells or shiny beads?

I just can't get my self to take conservatives like Ron Paul seriously who want us to go back to the gold standard. It's strikes me as utterly ridiculous that America would base a $15 trillion GDP on what is essentially a shiny rock. My impulse is to laugh it off but Ron Paul doesn't strike me as a dumb guy. Maybe I am missing something in this debate.

I want to understand why people think resurrecting a medieval economic system could actually work in a modern world without having profound unintended consequences.

By the way -- I pride myself in being able to understand viewpoints I don't agree with. If you present facts and logic, I will genuinely consider them with an open mind.
