Tips for cutting a red-lored amazon beak?
I've had my amazon for my entire life, but I've never been able to have much luck cutting his beak without it being an absolute war. It's gotten way too long- and I know his kind can have pretty long beaks without it being a problem, but it's gotten to the point where the tip is beginning to flatten out.
I'm the only one in the house who he even likes, so getting someone else to assist me isn't really an option- he makes everyone else nervous. And unfortunately we live in an area that lacks any nearby exotic animal veterinarians. When I try to clip his beak, he pulls the clippers out of my hand and throws them.
I'd also like to know if there's a certain point in which the quick STOPS growing? His beak needs to be shortened, but I don't want to cause him to bleed, though we do have coagulant should that happen.
Thanks in advance
2 AnswersBirds10 years agoMy sister's guinea pig has an eye problem, is it serious?
About a month or two ago, my sister's guinea pig scratched her eye, causing a little scar on it (though she can still see out of it), and a mild infection around her entire eye. She was brought to the vet, where my sister was given some medicine and was told to put it on her eye every day for a few weeks. Saying it was just a small infection and would be fine.
Her eye healed, and looked GREAT until just a little while ago. A large amount of crust in the front corner of her eye caused by white pus-like goo seeping out keeps forming every day, sometimes covering her entire eye in a thin layer of the goo until pile of crust is removed (which she dislikes and starts screaming whenever her eye is cleaned).
Aside from the cleaning part, she doesn't seem at all bothered by this problem. But it still worrys me. Any idea what's up with her lil' guinea pig?
4 AnswersRodents1 decade agoWhy does my Red-Lored Amazon do this?
I've got a red-lored amazon parrot, and he's about 23. Occasionally he does this rather annoying little... dance, I guess? He starts squawking in an odd and repetitive way and sliding back and fourth with his feathers puffed out and his head lowered.
It seems the only thing that will make him stop is for me to pick him up or pet him... though he tends to try to regurgitate on my finger if I pet him at that time.
What on earth IS he doing? ._.
