  • What do you think of this homepage?

I made this little something to refine my webdev skills and I would like to get some opinions and suggestions. It's mostly for myself, but if you people like it, I don't see why I couldn't release it!

It's basic, and it works! Behind the simple design, there are keyboard shortcuts that allow you to reach common websites.

For example, if you type gmail, gcal, digg, or facebook and then press ctrl+enter, you will be taken to that website. Shift+enter launches a wikipedia search.

SHORTCUTS DON'T NOT WORK WITH INTERNET EXPLORER YET, only Firefox, because IE is hardly compliant with web standards (and just sucks to boot with). If you still use it, just save the world some trouble and get Firefox!

    So?

  • What do you want to have on your browser's homepage?

I'm working on a small project to sharpen my web design skills and I am wondering what are you people looking for in a home page.

I'm doing something highly stylish an minimal, like the Google homepage, but with a better look and more features.

  • What car would you recommend?

I am currently saving for a car as my 2001 Sentra recently topped 350 000 km. It still runs smooth, but it will have to break at some point and I'm starting to look for a replacement. This car was absolutely perfect to me, so I'm looking for something similar.

I'm looking for a sedan like the Accord or Corolla and I'm open to anything. I need good interior room, good look, good mileage and high reliability.

The 2008+ Accord is a sexy beast but isn't as reliable as it used to be. The Corolla has it all but lacks a luxury/sporty look. I'm love the 2002+ Altimas, but I'm open to any suggestion.

    What'ya say?

  • Can you help me prepare a relaxing afternoon for my girlfriend?

My girlfriend broke into tears yesterday because of all of the pressure from the college. She has weeks of advance in her homeworks and does fine, but she is really stressed and I want to do a little something to carry her away from her worries.

We both have the afternoon tomorrow and I invited her home. The parents won't be there to walk above our heads so I thought it would be a fine time to have her relax.

I was thinking of taking all the furniture out of my bedroom and leave only the bed right in the middle. I would then cover the windows in the nearby rooms to get total darkness and use candles to light us. I would use drapes and carpets to cover the walls and floor and then throw some petal roses around for an extra wow.

Do you guys and girls have any idea of how I could make this even better? Any idea is welcome, even if the original plan is ditched

  • What are things everyone should learn how to do?

    Hello Y!

On a quest on self-improvement and boredom-killing, I'm asking you, Yahoo! Answers users, what are the skills you absolutely must have to be the person of the situation?

Mine would be to know how perform some basic car/home maintenance and keep your computer in good shape.

  • How to restore a car's black plastic grid?

I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra and on my ongoing quest to restore its former glory, I'm looking for a way to restore the front grid as it is fading to gray.

Is there any way to restore the grid's black plastic without requiring constant (weekly) maintenance to keep it so?

  • Parents won't let me offer my guests anything, what can I do?

    Hello Y!

I invited my girlfriend this morning and we made ourselves crepes since we were alone. Later, when they came back, they started ranting about how it costs them money when I feed other people. However her family kindly invite me for dinner and almost feel offended when I refuse.

Since her family invites me every once in a while, I feel really cheap when I gotta tell her we have to eat out because my parents don't want me to feed guests (as it's the same with other friends).

When I expose them to that very simple logic, they use the "it's our house so we decide" thought-terminating cliché and the conversation goes downhill. Their motives start changing, their reasoning stops making any sense and the tone is raising.

I don't want to feed my girlfriend like she lived at home, I just want to make her a sandwich when she visits while I'm about to eat or offer her a bottle of water when she's thirsty. Everyone thinks it's ridiculous, but they've held their position since the beginning. I myself think this is very selfish.

    What should I do?

    Other info:

    -I'm 16

    -My parents love my girlfriend

-I'm in great terms with them

-My family and hers have a similar income level (middle class)

-This happens only once or twice a week, not three times a day, seven days a week

  • Parents won't help for college (but their salaries won't let me get a scholarship)?

I am going to a CEGEP next year but I will have a lot of trouble affording a laptop that fit the requirements.

My parents won't help me with college at all but their high salaries mean I won't be able to get a scholarship. My father himself says it, and doesn't show any shame.

What can I do? I already work hard.

  • What do you think of my business card?

After seeing a few original business cards around, I wanted to try making my own. I'm a software developer and I thought about this design:

The card would be a double width card folded in half. The "cover" would be a standard, beautiful white-on-dark blue card with a corner torn showing the inside of the card. The visible inside would be the HTML code behind the design and the other page inside would include all my experience. The bottom would be just my email address on a white background.

  • How do you see the future?

I am building a time capsule where I will store photos, texts and other stuff from the current times so they can be preserved, studied and possibly laughed at in a few to many years.

In order to add some non-personal content to it, I'd love you to tell me how you think the future will be.

Please be specific in how far in the future you are talking about.

  • A girl is leaving my friend for me. What should I do?

My friend's girlfriend started hitting on me this week. It started as a nice little conversation and slowly turned into something way kinkier than it should be.

Tonight we were talking about stuff and she eventually asked me if I wanted her to show me how sex is. I quickly pointed at the fact she had a boyfriend (my goddamned friend!) and she told me she wanted to leave him, something brand new.

I don't want to date her but I don't know if she's hinting at the sex buddies thing. I don't want to lose a friend for a girl, duh, but she's really hitting on me and as the party idiot I am, I'm falling for it and letting her gain terrain.

  • A developer needs help: How would you name this application?

    Happy new year Yahoo!

I am working on an application for Windows Mobile devices. It is inspired from the App Store for the iPhone/iPod Touch and its current name is Gecko. However a much bigger project (the Mozilla layout engine) already has that name and I believe it's the right time to change while it's in beta.

There's a 25$ prize for the name that will be picked, if you are interested, so I might contact you later ;)

  • Can I use a second router as a bridge to connect distant devices?

I have a PC and a Xbox 360 in the basement and the wireless router is at the other end of the house. Passing two ethernet cables from an end of the house to the other is impossible and I don't want to pay for a wireless adapter for my 360 and another for my PC (~130$ total).

Would it be possible to use our other router to act as a BRIDGE for the two devices?

  • Why is it so important that everyone believe the same thing you do?

I was looking at R&S and mostly every question turns into a debate at a moment or another. Sometimes the answers are funny, sometimes they are facepalm-worthy - on both sides.

    So here is my question:

What honestly pushes you to try to convert believers into atheists and vice-versa?
