  • Potty Training Advice??

Ok so my daughter is a little over 2 1/2 years old. So i decided that this week I would dedicate to potty training but I had to start tuesday after her older sisters dance class and so on. So I started yesterday and she has been waking up dry for months now she goes to bed at 8 pm and is up by 8 am. And is always bone dry waits about an hour and fills her diaper to the point of it leaking. So I waited about an hour and sat her on the potty could tell she needed to go and she sat there and pushed and tooted a couple times but nothing else. So I let her get off and less than a min later she is peeing down her legs saying she needs a diaper. So after that she was naked and dry I would put her on the potty every hour and she would push and try and nothing so then I put her down for a nap and put a diaper back on her she took a 2 hour nap woke up dry so we went straight to the potty and sat there for like 15 min and nothing again. She then held it till 6 pm that night with me still putting her on the potty every hour as normal but her still holding it all in. Anyways so at 6 I put her on one more time before dinner and she started freaking out because she had to go so bad so finally she let it all out and almost filled the portable potty full. We all danced and sang for her and then the rest of the night she had no accidents but also no more going on the potty. So today is going just like yesterday but more accidents and not once going in the potty and now I am thinking she is getting constipated because she complains that her bum hurts. So I am wondering if she isn't ready even though she has good bladder control. My first daughter I tried right at 2 wasnt ready waited 2 months tried again and it clicked. I figured since I waited till my second was a lot older than her sister is would be easier but maybe not? I am thinking about putting a diaper on and waiting a month or two and try again? Does it sound like she she not ready? Thanks! Any advice will help!

  • What is the best tablet for a 6 year old?

My daughter will be 6 1/2 around christmas and I am trying to figure out what to get her. She got a leappad 2 years ago and loved it but recently has not been that interested in it and now my 2 1/2 year old loves it. So I was thinking about getting my 6 year old and new tablet and pass down the leappad. I am debating between the Kindle Fire HD, Nabi 2, or the Leappad ultra. I would prefer one that I can download netflix. What is the best or most kid friendly? Thanks!

  • 6 year old struggling with reading?

My 6 year old has been struggling with reading since kindergarten and with extra help with her teacher she got up to grade level and was able to advance to 1st grade. I put her in a reading program in the summer to try and help her feel really comfortable reading. Then on back to school night I talked to her new 1st grade teacher and let her know that she had been struggling with reading. So about a week ago I got the dreaded call from her teacher saying she was falling behind again. She is good about sounding letters out and with sight words. Her teacher had me come in and see some reading techniques to help her. I bought some BOB books today at costco and when she got home from school she excitingly opened them and read the first book without having to sound anything out or needing any help. But that was the first book and I noticed they get harder with each book. Are there any other things or techniques that would help her? I am worried because her teacher said if she didn't catch up then she might have to start a resource class in January. I have looked into learning disabilities and don't think she has one but I am not a teacher. She also does really well on her spelling tests every week. And really likes reading especially when she reads correctly and it makes sense to her. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

  • Does Cetaphil work on acne?

I am 26 and recently have had small breakouts on my forehead. I will get 3 or 4 big red pimples at a time. I have been reading a bunch of good reviews on Cetaphil. Have you tried it? Which is better the gentle or the normal kind? Also does the Cetaphil lotion work well? Thanks!

  • 6 year old birthday party?

My daughter is turning 6 in June and wants to go the local beauty college and have her and all of her friends get there hair and nails done then come back to our house and do cake, ice cream, and presents. My issue is that I know these parents are not going to want to drive all over town. So is it ok to have them get dropped off and me and my husband can drive them all? I know that most are still in boosters so how would this all work? Have you ever done a drop off party or felt comfortable letting your 6 year old go to one?

  • 2 year old waking up every morning with a dry diaper?

My daughter will be 2 in May and for about the past month she has been waking up with dry diapers and within 30 min of waking up she pretty much pee's through her diaper. One morning I sat her on the potty and she went after sitting there for 10 min and that was the first time she ever did that since then we have been too busy in the mornings to sit her on the potty because we are rushing her older sister to school. Does it sound like she is ready to be potty trained? I didnt potty train her sister until she was 2 1/2 so I dont want to rush things but if shes ready thats fine with me. lol. Also does anyone have any tips on potty training? Thanks!

  • Is my situation worth small claims court?

I recently moved out of house that I put a $1200.00 deposit down on. I lived there with my husband and 2 kids. We signed a year lease and ended up living there for a year and a half the last six months where month to month. So we found a better house for our family and gave our landlords a 45 day notice and offered to help show the place if needed. Needless to say they found new renters pretty quick. We where out by march 1st and in the lease agreement it says they have up to 30 days to mail our refund check. So on March 23rd we received our check and it was for $214.00. With a detailed list of things they said we did and left in there house. Pretty much I have OCD about cleanliness and keeping things in good condition. So we where pretty much shocked and we contacted them and they said well you guys have not countered our offer yet... I didn't know you could even do that because we have been renting for 7 years and have always got our full deposit and a lot of gratitude for taking care of peoples houses and always paying rent on time. We have never had a late payment in 7 years. They also took pictures and we looked through them and it was like a nick in the wall some paint worn off a corner of trim, dust on top of the fridge, dust on the towel rod, paint chipped of the corner of the door. Pretty much very normal wear and tear. I did forget to clean the top of the fridge and in the oven so we offered to pay for the cleaning and carpet cleaning fees. But they are charging us $1000.00 worth of damage which is a joke. So we countered them at $800 which is more than fair and they countered again at $490.00. Honestly I don't know what to do I didn't think of taking pics before we left because like I said we have always got our full deposit back. Is this worth taking to small claims court? We have holiday pics of the inside of the house and some of our kids rooms. We can also get letters for neighbors and old landlords but is it worth it?

  • What all should a kindergartner know?

My daughter is 5 and is in kindergarten and can count to 100, knows her ABC's and sounds of them, colors, shapes, simple sight words, can write her first and last name, can do simple addition and subtraction with her fingers or objects. We recently moved but before we did her old teacher said she was falling behind. So now at her new school I let her new teacher know what her old teacher said and she said that she would do an evaluation in the next week and we could schedule a time to talk about it. Today she let me know that on friday we could meet after school and talk about her progress. I am really nervous and just confused what all does a kindergartner need to know and what can I do to help her if she is behind?

  • Daughters Kindergarten teacher concerned?

We had parent teacher conference the other day and one of the first things my daughters teacher said was " I am very concerned, your daughter is starting to fall behind." I was shocked because all through out preschool and the first of the year she was fine and no one has ever said that about her. Her teacher continued to say that she didn't know her sight words, couldn't count objects past 35, couldn't blend properly, and her writing was bad. I didn't even know what to say because I knew this was all untrue. So I brought her home and told my husband what she had said and he also was shocked. So the first thing I did was get out pennies to see if she could count past 35 and sure enough she counted to 120. Then I got out her blending practice paper and she did it all with out help. Then I told her to write her name, my name, and my husbands name she also did all of those she did spell my name kmi instead of kim but still she is in kindergarten. So I decided to email her teacher and tell her about my findings and said maybe she gets shy and timid at school and that's why she didn't do them correctly. She emailed me back saying " as a parent you might give subtle hints and clues to help scaffold her while she is working." I was a bit annoyed with response because I don't want anyone thinking that my child is behind. So my question is what should a kindergartner know? I will do anything I can do to help my child and I am freaking out thinking that she is behind. Thanks

  • Is this a cold or the flu?

Both my kids 20 months and 5 years have a cough, runny nose, and a fever. It starts out as just a cough and then turns into a cough and fever. Both of them are still eating and drinking and playing so I cant tell what does it sound like to you? Thanks!

  • Parents do you get stressed out when your kids are sick and running fevers?

I have a 5 year old daughter and 20 month old daughter. When my 5 year old was 21 months she had a febrile seizure and ended up getting life flighted to the local children's hospital and was in there for a couple of days and the conclusion was a complex febrile seizure. She never had one again but she is now running a fever and I am freaking my self out about it. And to top it off over thanksgiving my 20 month old had her first simple febrile seizure so I am trying to keep them apart and was wondering if any other parents get stressed out over this stuff or if I am just overreacting. Also does anyone have any remedies that have helped your children with a cough/fever? Thanks!

So we are getting family pictures done on Thursday and I have been looking for a photographer for awhile and just felt they where all overpriced. But I received an email from Amazon Local Deals and a photographer in my area was offering her services 50% off. So I bought but in the fine print it says "Gratuity not included; please tip on the pre-discounted total". So how much do or would I tip? Thanks!

  • Teething or something else?

My baby is 7 months old and has had cold like symptoms for over a week now. She has had a cold before and it lasted less than a week using her humidifier. But this time around its not helping at all she has a very runny nose that is clear as well as coughing and then on top of it super cranky. And now she has red warm cheeks but no fever. I cant see anything coming in so I cant decide if I should take her to the doctor? I called and all they said was watch it to make sure it doesnt turn into an ear infection. But my issue is my husband is taking me to mexico for a week on wed. Does this sound like teething or would you just take her in?

  • Cold like symptoms and teething?

My baby is 7 months old and the past couple days has had a clear runny nose and has been soo cranky. So right when I saw the runny nose I started using her humidifier and it has not helped at all. She has had a cold before and using the humidifier always helped. She also will not let me look in her mouth or feel to see if I can see anything. She also has had a couple rough nights she just whines in bed. She usually goes to be at 8:30 but last night she cried and whined till almost 11. Are these signs of teething? She doesnt have a fever or anything else just a clear runny nose and super cranky.
