  • how to make a fly fringe?

    hello,

I want to make two fly fringes for the two ponies we take care of at the moment.

As soon as we got them we noticed the flies turned up pretty quick. I am just wondering how long the "fringes" should be. I tried googling but whenever I would look at the descriptions in online stores they would never have the measurements, just what type of material it's made of and what colors are available (and the price of course). I've tried guessing how long they were from the pictures but I don't want to end up miscalculating and making them too short. I'm guessing they're about 40 cm?

Also, if any of you have any suggestions on how to keep the flies away (from the ponies and us as well, dang it I'm itchy everywhere!) without using harsh chemical stuff that would be great.

  • help with reversing crochet patterns?

    Hello,

I just started to learn how to crochet two days ago, and I've been practicing my stitches since then, but I'm having a problem with finding good (and free) patterns for left-handed crocheters. Every time I click on a link that might be promising it always ends up in disappointment. It's always things like '...if you're a lefty just reverse the patterns...' or '...yeah we know it's a bit tricky, but...but...KEEP PRACTICING! yay!'

Finding links on how to work the basic stitches is easy, but I want patterns....any help on how I can reverse the pattern instructions, since that seems to be the only option I have?

There's plenty of videos on youtube but I don't want to just work on granny squares, baby booties, and strange looking hats...know what I mean?

I've been searching pretty much all day on a nice and easy tote bag pattern but nothing comes up :(

  • can I get a bit of help with sewing patterns?

Hello, I'm basically a newb when it comes to using a sewing machine, I know how to work it but I don't really know much about clothing patterns...mostly I've just been sewing simple things like pillows and bags, but I really want to make good tunics for my boyfriend who is a medieval reenactor (Frankish Panzerreiter to be exact). I've only made two, the first one was just an experiment with linen fabric I could find in the house...it's falling apart and it fits him pretty tight. He still loves it though (sweet, huh?). The second one I made with really gorgeous and delicate hand-made/naturally-dyed (and expensive) linen he ordered over the internet, needless to say I was really nervous when I made this, I didn't want to ruin any of it because they were of really good quality. This one came out okay, it sort of looks like a tunic, but I have problems with the collar and sleeves. I know how to attach the sleeves but I need to know how to find good measurements and how to cut out and exact pattern that fits his body. I need to know as well how to cut out the collar without it slanting to one side or choking his throat because the hole is too small. Any help on measuring will be great. I've tried to look for easy-to-understand patterns but frankly I get a bit confused whenever I look at these, any help on finding some will be great as well.

I'm looking for simple tunic patterns, like the one on the first link (the second link is just to show how I want to make the collars for him, he likes them that way.)

that second tunic looks too larp-y

    Danke! Servus! :)

  • help, I want my corn tortillas! solution?

So......I moved to Germany about six months ago (or longer?...).

I'm originally from Texas, and I'm having massive, but MASSIVE cravings for mexican food. I grew up with that stuff I can't help it. I'm living in Bavaria in a small town and so far I've only seen a few mexican products, but they're not authentic (or they contain some sort of meat/milk ingredient) so I don' really want to purchase them. I've made flour tortillas, made my own refried beans and salsa, and made several veggie burritos for me and my boyfriend (and his mother as well), they love it. I'm having trouble thinking of other recipes I can cook for them and myself, since the main ingredient for most dishes are corn tortillas, and I can't find any, not even masa harina to make my own. There is corn flour though, but masa harina is different. I don't know what to do....I want my tostadas damn it! do any of you have any idea what I can do? Is there a way I can turn corn flour into corn tortillas?

  • how to improve taste of falafel mix.....?

I was curious to try falafel so I bought a quick mix at the store (didn't have any of the ingredients to make it from scratch so I just chose the lazy way lol) and it turned out tasting pretty bad.

the box is still pretty full and I feel bad throwing it away, so is there any way I can improve the taste of the falafel mix? maybe cooking it a certain way, or adding something else?

  • how to cope with the grieving over the loss of my rabbit...?

she passed away in the early hours of the morning on the 16th...it feels like ages now even though it was just yesterday. I've lost my best friend, she was a really big part of me and even though our friendship was short lived I really can't remember the last time I became so attached to an animal or even a human.

might sound funny to some but I know many animal lovers out there understand.

she followed me everywhere and I loved her...and I know she loved me too.

I've been trying to distract myself and it's helped a bit...but whenever there is a pause, or my thoughts drift, I fall back to my grief.

I just don't know what to do without her.

  • Veterinarians specialized in rabbit care near Houston?

    Specifically, North Houston (Harris County)...

I'm trying to find a vet that is knowledgeable about rabbits and unfortunately I've only come across vets only trained in the "typical" house pet like cats and dogs near where I live. I really need to find a place as quick as possible....

so if any of you have an answer please share.

  • why would they add gelatin to the ingredients in canned sunflower seeds?

that is, shelled and roasted sunflower seeds.

I was grabbing a quick snack and just poured some on my hand and as I chewed and look at the ingredients I was surprised.

we all know gelatin can be used to make jellies or gummy candy...but why would they use it on sunflower seeds?

  • stir fry with ramen noodles?

I want something quick to eat.

I don't want soup, and I'm not going to use the flavor packet.

are the noodles good to use in a stir fry?

another thing, what do I use for the sauce to flavor since the only thing I have is soy sauce, will that be enough? (I'm a bit limited right now with the spices)

    any other suggestions?

I tried searching here but I keep coming across options that are based on soups or not veg*n friendly at all.

  • do you happen to know how difficult it is to be veg*n in...?

    Germany?

I plan to move there sometime next year, and I was just wondering if it would be easy to keep up with my vegetarianism (soon to be vegan) since I know Germany is well known for it's hearty meals based on meat and dairy. So, if you are a veg*n living in Germany, or have visited the country for quite sometime please share any info.

    thank you :)

  • help with my wisdom teeth?

lately I've been having some pretty uncomfortable pain due to my wisdom teeth just coming out (especially on my left side). the problem is I don't have any health insurance, and extracting these little devils is pretty costly and I don't have the money. the last time I went to the dentist (while I still had insurance) they have told me that I have no space for them to come out. so I'm in a rut here and just looking for advice on what to do if you know or have gone through the same thing.

    please help?

  • A question for vegetarians...?

No, this isn't an animal cracker question.

I've just been thinking over some things. I came across this...

"There is no morally significant difference between meat and dairy or between meat and fish. There is as much (if not more) suffering in a glass of milk as in a pound of steak and a fish values her/his life as much as the cow values her/his life. “Happy” meat/animal products do not involve any greater protection for animal interests and these animals are all still treated in ways that involve what would be regarded as torture were humans involved..."

"RT "Vegetarianism" no longer has any meaning & often includes fish as well as dairy. There are no distinctions. Less than vegan=exploitation."

as a vegetarian myself, I agree with all of this, and trust me if I could choose between vegetarian and vegan, I would go with vegan. the thing that is holding me back though is that I'm not in a position right now to sustain myself since I still live with my mother (who is a meat-eater and is really not supportive of the decision I made). I try my best to avoid any dairy products and eggs. I would go the vegan way once I'm out of the house. but, I know of several vegetarians who have been vegetarian for years and years and have not made the change. if this is the case with you, what are your reasons? dairy and eggs still contribute the the suffering of animals (even if the products are labeled as free range, organic, or what have you...it's all misleading...). this is to all vegetarians who are doing this not only for the health reasons....

    just curious here :)

  • any help please on how to make these cute tiny stuffed owls?

now my question is, to any of you, how do you make them if you have any clue? they look fairly simple but I know that what might look simple is actually really intricate and I really really am dying to make one of these.

I followed the link she offered in that first owl picture, but the instructions are in Chinese (bummer :( )

  • any tips/help on becoming vegetarian?

I've been trying to become a vegetarian (my real goal is vegan), but the thing is...I'm surrounded by people who love to eat meat and other foods that contain animal products living under the same roof. Now, I'm not fighting temptations or cravings here, my "taste" for meat is pretty non-existent, but it's hard when the people around me have a diet heavy in processed things and not much fruit, vegetables, legumes...etc and it's the only thing I am provided with for a meal. Even as I've stated my choice to become vegetarian (and reasons why) there's no understanding. I want to go completely vegan but as you see it's nearly impossible when still living with my family. Also, it's not like I'm forcing them to become vegetarians either...

    so, any advice please? :)

(I tried to keep this short so if you have any questions, ask away...)

  • "Health Risks and Dangers of Eating Eggs"?

I was just searching for something I could eat alongside my hard boiled eggs when I came across this article:

    http://www.dherbs.com/articles/eggs-8.html

(it's rather long but if you're interested read the whole thing)

one thing that struck me was this passage:

"Humans would be wise to eat their own reproductive secretions (sperm) and excreta (eggs, ovum), instead of eating the reproductive excreta from a lower creature with an entirely different chemical and biological makeup...Many people love eating scrambled eggs for breakfast, but humans can make their own scrambled egg by purchasing ovaries...and sperm....within minutes you have some human-based scrambled eggs. You see, by eating our own embryo and excreta, we can leave the chicken and hen eggs alone; after all, the chicken egg is not human food or food for humans. The chicken and hen egg is for the perpetuation of the chicken species..."

    (edited the paragraph)

"Most eggs eaten by humans come from fowl or birds, who have a very different bio-genetic and molecular structural makeup than humans. It was customary for those growing up on farms to get their eggs from hens. But today, most eggs consumed today are derived from chicken, a grafted animal that is coprophagous (dung eater) by nature. And remember, you ARE what you EAT! Eating eggs will most certainly change or alter your bio-chemical, genetic, and molecular makeup as a human and make you susceptible to a host of unnatural diseases and pathologies..."

so what do you think of this?
