Steph
Hello. Just in case you didn't know, I'm Stephanie or Steph if you prefer that. I'm 16, I'm fairly boring. I love music. I play piano, tenor sax, clarinet, I'm learning guitar and trumpet. My favorite bands/artists right now are Pink Floyd, David Bowie, The Cars, The Killers, Frank Sinatra, and there's more but I can't remember them right now. I enjoy writing and reading. I write poetry and sometimes a story or two, though they probably aren't any good. My favorite books are 1984, Lord of the Flies, Flowers for Algernon, the A Encyclopedia, and Catch-22. I enjoy science and love learning about it whenever a chance is given.
Will I be able to go on birth control pills?
I'm 16 (almost 17) and I have horrible periods. I get migraines and headaches that eventually make me throw up. In the first few days, my cramps make me vomit as well. They're horrible.
My period is extremely heavy and lasts 7-8 days.
I'm moody and I bloat like crazy (7 pounds worth of water retention) and I really can't do it anymore. I'm worried about my throat and teeth because of the vomiting, I hate being moody, I hate having to wear my fat jeans for a whole week every month...
I'm not having sex, so I really don't need the birth control part right now, but I know in the future I'll be having sex and uh, I'd like to be responsible.
I'm worried she (the doctor) will tell me to take Midol and aspirin or something. I've been taking boatloads of aspirin when I'm on my periods and I really, really hate doing that. It can't be good for me.
I want to be put on birth control. Think it'll happen?
5 AnswersWomen's Health1 decade agoCan I get a passport using my learner's driving permit?
I need to get a passport soon and I'm planning on getting my Ohio driving learner's permit on Saturday (I'm almost 17 so I'm a bit late. Oh well). Could I use the permit in lieu of a driver's license when applying for a passport?
If not, it's no big deal because I guess I could just always get a state issued ID card, but I would be killing two birds with one stone this way.
Thanks.
6 AnswersOther - Destinations1 decade agoPolitical Scientists?
Is there a career called "political scientist?"
Because I would like to go into this area of study, but am not interested in being an elected official or any sort of lawyer. Websites are leading me to believe that there is no actual job of studying and researching politics, but that it is a very general term for anyone who's earned a degree in it. Yet I've been able to find salaries for the job. I'm so confused.
2 AnswersLaw & Legal1 decade agoI'll be 17 years old. Will I have problems flying to and staying in England?
Next year I will be flying to London, England from the states. I've been a bit paranoid about it because I'll be 17 and I'll be alone. I'm not scared because I'll be alone, but rather because I think people may give me problems.
If my father uses his credit card to purchase a hotel room for me, would that be alright even though I'll be staying there alone?
Would there be any problems with the flight?
Has anyone else done this? I'm nervous. I tried calling some places and they all said "Well I don't know." Jeez, that's not really helpful, is it?
I'll be 2 months short of being 18 if that changes anything.
20 AnswersOther - United Kingdom1 decade agoCan I send something to England in one of those yellow envelopes?
I have to mail some things to England tomorrow from a post office in the United States and I only have those big yellow envelopes. Will those be alright if I'm mailing some candy and Kool-Aid packets? I've always used boxes before.
If not, does the post office have boxes I could buy or something?
2 AnswersOther - Local Businesses1 decade agoIf I took the ACT again and did worse, what would happen?
I got 28 a few weeks ago on the ACT. I'm only a Sophomore in high school so I have plenty of chances to take it again so time isn't a problem.
I did pretty low in math because I haven't had all of my math courses yet. I think I could easily get 30something if I had more math.
I was surprised with my score though and I'm kind of worried that I'd actually get lower if I took it again. Would they keep the original score or would the new one cancel out the old one?
Should I even take it again? D:
5 AnswersStandards & Testing1 decade agoGerman - English translation needed. Can anyone tell me what this says?
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/2839/bear001es5...
I found this in a rather old German book (Copyright 1944). It's a sticker type thing. What would this be used on?
Sorry about the horrible quality picture.
Thank you!

A semester? (Two quaters?)
1 AnswerOther - Education1 decade agoWhat are some good colleges to go to if you want a science oriented career?
Ok, so I'm filling out my ACT papers and I've come to the part where it asks about sending things to colleges. What do I put!? I would like to persue a career in science but I don't know any colleges. Argh. Please help.

8 AnswersOther - Arts & Humanities1 decade agoDo you ever just cry for humanity?
I was looking around on Deviant Art when I came across a photo of a dead man lieing on the side walk and people just walked by. The story along with it may not have been true, but it made me cry anyway. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/38808947/
Was it silly of me to have cried? I'm sick of a lot of people really, but what could I do? Do you ever just cry even though people will always be people? Blah.
9 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoHow do last names really work?
I have come across many people with the same last name as me on my search through geneology websites. There is hardly any information about the side of the family I am now researching. However, I have found lots of research conducted by other people with my last name. Are we all distantly related if we've got the surname? How does this work? Could I use their information to roughly estimate the nationality of my ancestors?
6 AnswersGenealogy1 decade agoI want to play violin, what do I need to know?
I've never held a violin in my life, I need help buying one and finding supplies. What kind of violin is best for beginners? Should I buy an expensive one now or what?
How did you get started? Any resources you could give me?
Thanks, I'm clueless. I pretty much woke up in the middle of the night thinking "I should learn how to play violin" and since then I've been obsessed with this idea.
9 AnswersPerforming Arts1 decade agoWhat do you mean when you say "the end of the world?" What are the humans significance in this?
I have noticed that a lot of people refer to the extinction of humans and the ruin of civilization as "The end of the world." Why?
Wont the earth still exist even if humans disappear?
Am I missing something?
Help me.
When I think about the end of the world, I think of the death of the sun. Or the earth literally falling to pieces. Not the absence of humans. Wouldn't that be a good thing for the earth?
Are humans the world? What do you think?
11 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoTeen Nazi twins?
A friend showed me this news clip that he found online: http://yourdailymedia.com/media/1138100985
To me, they seem like they're taking ethnic pride too far and are brainwashed by their mother.
What do you think? Is 13 (are they 13?) too young to be a true "Nazi" or do you think they truely believe and support the ideals?

5 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoPeople keep calling me retarded and it's getting on my nerves?
I really don't understand, and that's why I'm upset. The person who says it the most that really bothers me is my younger sister (she's 11 years old). I know I shouldn't take it to heart since she's my sister and is almost meant to say mean things, but it really hurts. Then everyone else tries telling me that I'm some kind of genius when I'm obviously not. I'm average, I'm not retarded, and I’m not a genius. I guess I just want a little respect. It even feels disrespectful when people say I'm so smart because it's lying. How can I convince my younger sister to stop using that word to describe me? I'm afraid she won’t take me seriously. There are other people who like to call me retarded, but my sister saying it hurts a lot more.
14 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoTeachers expect too much from me?
I'm going to be a sophomore in high school next year. In my freshman year I managed to establish a friendship with my Biology teacher. He's brilliant and I see it as an honor to be praised by him. I swear this guy was in love with me. He's supposed to be retiring soon so he has been encouraging me to take as many of his courses as possible before he goes. He tells me I score the highest out of the classes on every test blahblahblah, the problem is I think he expects too much from me. He wants me to try out for Academic Challenge next year and I'm worried that I won’t make it. I'm really awful in math. He also was bugging me about getting straight a's all throughout high school but I got a b last quarter and blah, I just felt bad. It's putting a lot of pressure on me. What can I do? I kind of just want to sit him down and show him how stupid I really am.
3 AnswersOther - Education1 decade agoBelieving for the wrong reason?
I once read a story on an atheism website that got me thinking. It was pretty lengthy so I'll give a short summary:
This atheist was in heaven, waiting in line to meet God to be questioned. When the person in front of her reached God, the person explained that they had been a Christian all of their life and they just knew that someday they would stand before Him. God then asked "But why do you believe in me?" and they said "I go to church every week and have read the bible!" God asked again "Why do you believe in me?" but they could not answer and they were denied entry.
The atheist was in line next and they gave a spiel about how she was angry that God sat back and did nothing while people suffered. She was alowed entry to heaven, but refused it.
Why do you believe in God? What do you think of people who believe in God just because they are told that they should? Is there a wrong reason to believe? What is the right reason?
21 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAre there any mistakes that we don't learn from?
It's probably hard to learn from your own fatal mistakes, but someone learns something from it eventually. Sometimes I feel like saying "We learn from our mistakes" is a way of making up an excuse. Especially when what the mistakes teach you are common sense that you should have known anyway. What do you think?
