  • I've been doing some research...?

and I plan to stand on top of a hill in Manchester with a list of all the gods and their rules and yell into the sky that they're not real. I've invited all the local churches (in the same way they invite me to them, endless leaflet campaigns, knocking on doors {you know it's amazing how many religious people get angry when you knock on their door soliciting non belief}) and I'm negotiating the use of a PA system atm.

I've invited all my friends and sent letters to BBC & ITV in the hopes that they'll come cover it.

    Anybody want to come?

  • Does anyone think that....?

MEGACHURCHES! are getting beyond the realm of silliness and into a whole new category?

Come on, a megachurch, you may as well all wear a uniform and create a special march.

  • I've been doing an experiment today...?

I was told by someone that there are fundies on Y!A and they're knee jerkers and hate mailers. I wanted to see what kind of thing was said so I've been pulling quotes from Mr Antony Pants and doing my best to get hate mail. It's not happened; are the fundies having a day off or am I just not trying hard enough?

  • Mind to brain to fingers to keyboard...?

to internet to eyes to brain to mind.

Has it lost something in translation, or was it flawed to begin with? Is it a connection or a broken chain? Is it my intellect you communicate with or my intangible spirit? With the lack of my physical self, is it me you see?

    I've had a few drinks.

  • How can current pupils of english not read their course texts?

If you rely on other people to answer for you you're never going to learn anything. Some of the questions I've seen asked today alone are really quite annoying; you're trying to find the easy way out of study and, what's worse, is that some of them are trying to avoid reading some excellent works of fiction.

Please do your own work, it will only benefit you.

  • I have a belkin router, help with password setup, please?

I've opened its properties and when I try all the different security types it disconnects and says something along the lines of "the settings do not match" I then click on the box it brings up saying open security to check and it brings me back to security setup.

I've tried all the ones that just require password; I'd really like it to be password secured.

Any help much appreciated but I am a layman so please try to be as non tech as poss.

    thankyou

  • Why would you feel the need to mock someone...?

not only for loving classical music but for many times being moved to tears by it.

eg. Lacrimosa, Moonlight Sonata, Wir Setzen Uns Mit Tranen Nieder (can't do the omlaut), Adagio Sostenuto, Adagio for Strings (barber), and more than I can think of straight away.

To be overwhelmed by emotion the way the composer must have been to create it.

I'm 27, atheist, straight, married with son so any insults along those lines won't count for ya.

  • The line between the two sides...?

Okay; asking now out of interest, not disrespect.

Given that God is infinite, and that the universe is also infinite, given that God is omnipresent and the universe is omnipresent, would that not mean that science and religion have a common ground? Could 'God' as it is seen by religion not 'be' the universe itself and therefore be part of both disciplines, simply explained differently?

I am neither theist nor atheist, I exist and question.

  • Would anyone be open to some advice?

In my many web travels I've got myself into a few scrapes and none so often as with religion.

It's said that the best way to defeat someone is to beat them at their own game.

That said, if you are trying to convince an anti-theist or Atheist that prides themself on logic, reason and rationale that God exists, they're probably not going to read a truckload of scripture you copied out.

To a person who is grounded in science or logic or any discipline which opposes religion (or negates it), no argument will be accepted that is copied verbatim from the very thing they see as not having logical validity.

And to anti-theists and Atheists (those of you who have not read the bible or religious text you disagree with {I and many others, have}) why not engage in a rational discussion with knowledge of your opposites?

Ah, hell with it, let's just hit each other with our respective books, bible versus history of physics. kidding.

  • Okay the people next door are playing Christian rock...?

at five past midnight. The day before yesterday they did it til 4 in the morning.

I've asked them to turn it down. I also knocked on the door and asked the price of admission and if drinks were included. When they looked at me blankly I said "Oh, is this NOT a nightclub, sure sounds like one."

This is not the first, second, third or even fourth time this has happened.

This is indicative of the arrogance of some (not all) christians that they feel they are justified and even allowed to get away with stuff like this. I understand you love your God but there are better hours to do it in when my three year old is not being kept awake by it.

    Why so selfish?

  • UK viewing of lunar eclipse.?

    Hello;

firstly I'm a layman so please don't post any calendars of timetables they mess with my head.

I'd just like to know at what time I should try and see this eclipse from the north of england.

The sites I've looked at say London should see it beginning at about 8:11bst and glasgow about 8:40 and that maximum eclipse should be around 10pm.

Any takers, please only informed answers.

    Thankyou,

    Ape.

  • My son is having difficulty with his words, any tips?

My son, William, is 3. He's obviously very bright and understands a great deal - for instance, he's just built a makeshift ladder and is using a tool to pull the biscuit tin towards him in order to steal chocolate.

He's not progressing in speech, however, even though we know he understands complex sentences. He can say a few words (daddy, mummy, bikkit {biscuit}, me, my, cushion, doggy etc) but his vocabulary is very limited for his age and he cannot form sentences.

We play a game where I pretend to be asleep and he steals the cushion and today he did say "My cush" which was not only really cute but also gratifying.

I work a lot with him with flashcards, word games, miming words as I speak them, association games, anything I can think of.

Does anyone have any games they play or any tips for how I can better help him get to grips with the sounds?

We've considered that he may be tongue-tied but we've been waiting for a paediatrician for a long time and we're eager to help him.

    Thanks all,

    Pax,

    Ape
