  • Anybody else sick of "good" christians who are holier than thou, yet offensive in so many ways?

Sorry, but just spent the weekend with my JW mother in law, who after 2 days of reminding me how my children would be so much better respected in society if they were christians. YET, these are word for word quotes that have come out of her mouth today alone. In front of my children no less.

    * "What a w**ker, just because he owns a flash bike, thinks he can ride on the footpath. I hope he falls off"!

    * "Oh, I think that is a silly law. Why should I have to clean up my dog's poo in the park? (giggles) I just kick some dirt over it and hope one of those ratbag kids from up the road step in it"

*"What a w**ker!" (some guy dared to be doing pushups in the park).

    * All people that own 4wd's should be hit by one themselves. It'll teach them to be so up themselves"

    * "Why the h*ll should I give those c**ns any of my hard earned money? They should all be erradicated"!

Now I am not saying ALL christians behave this way, she is not the norm. However I have come across quite a few of these people from different denominations over the past few years. I just wonder what goes through her head when she speaks so poisonously in front of my children? I am not a christian (obviously), but I would NEVER behave this way in any situation.

I guess my question is, how do you deal with these people without lowering yourself to their level? I just kept my mouth shut, but I really feel the need to let her know that I don't believe she is behaving in a christian manner at all.

Any constructive thoughts on this are welcomed.

  • Who do you feel should shoulder the responsibility of Indigenous Town Camp housing?

I have recently watched an "Insight" program about the state of Indigenous Town Camp housing, particularly in the Northern Territory. The presenter was right, the state of the housing IS horrendous. Who ultimately should be held responsible though?

I am NOT stating opinion. I am ASKING for opinions.

  • Would you join the "bad mummies club"?

There is a new website called the "bad mummies club" where mum's can get on the forum and confess their "bad mummy" behaviour. From what I have read it is meant to help support mothers who are feeling judged by society, friends, and family, and helping them to not feel like "bad mummies".

Would you join such a club?

Would you be able to confess your indiscretions while at the same time not judging others no matter how wrong or damaging you think they are?

I am really interested to hear your thoughts on this.

  • Do you think that the information era has promoted depression?

The myriad of awful stories every day, the horrific torturous crimes being broadcast in detail, the pictures of death and destruction being beamed into our living rooms hourly.

I have always believed that information is education, when we know better we do better, however how does this effect our psyche? History has shown that these horrendous crimes have always occurred and in some countries were more prevalent in the past. Were people living in blissful ignorance? Is depression and mental illness related in some way to the availability of information?

  • "Yelling as bad as smacking"?

There was an item in the morning news this morning about yelling being as bad as smacking. Now the professional did make clear that it he is talking about excessive yelling and excessive smacking, but it has still opened the floodgates of opinion re discipline.

What are your thoughts? What methods do you find appropriate, what works for you, what would you like to see change?

  • Celebrity scientologists and engrams?

Engrams seem to be one of scientology's biggest catch cries. They get you to spend a lot of money on ridding yourself of negative engrams in order to climb their "bridge". Keeping this in mind...why is it that Tom Cruise and the rest of his posse are able to produce movies revolving around murder, violence, sex, and deception? Do these movies not produce a miriad of engrams in the person watching? Are they not breaking thier own rules? Or is the payout in the end more important than the general public's mental state?
