  • What teenagers do for the summer while parents work?

I'm a single mother with a 13 yr old son and 14 yr old daughter. I can't afford to send them to camp for the summer, and they are too old for daycare. I will be working 12 hr shifts half of the week, so they will be home alone without any supervision from 6am-8pm half of the week.

There are no summer activites or neighborhood programs for the youth in my area, but there are hundreds of young teens in my neighborhood with working parents. What can they do all day to stay out of trouble?

A few months ago the kids were out of school for spring break. I had to go to work, and my kids stayed home alone. They were instructed to not let friends come over because some of my daughter's friends are the girlfriends of some of my son's friends. I'm responsible for what goes on and if I am not there I do not want all these hormonally activated girls and boys in my house when I am across town at work...they still came over and my kids still let them despite my instructions.

I've talked to many parents around here and they seem to believe they have total control and power of their teens, and they won't be having any of that, and their kids would never lie or disobey their orders---if only that were true.

My neighbor called me over spring break and asked if I knew there were over a dozen teens hanging out in my house, and some appeared to be making out. My kids denied it, but I knew they were lying. Feeling powerless, I called the constable to go clear out my house since I couldn;t leave work. Some of the parents supposedly disciplined their kids for this ---though some of them had the balls to return to my house a few days later. I suppose they don't fear the law nor their parents or me. I'm not sure what to do this summer with my teens while I work. I have talked to lots of these kids and let them know clearly that if I am not home they are not allowed to come in my house even if my kids allow them.

Is this really that abnormal? Do most parents have teens who never lie, or sneak around (perhaps I just happen to live in an abnormal neighborhood)? Do you just go to work and leave your teens alone hoping they follow rules you set? Do you beat them and pray they don't report it to the authorities so you don't go to prison? What do you do?

  • Should I file for chapter 7 bankruptcy?

I bought a house two years ago after completing college and starting a decent paying career.

About 6 months ago I experienced several unexpected major expenses that I have not been able to recover from. Since then I have fallen behind on my credit card bills (now I have 28% interest rate acorss the board) and more recently my home mortgage.

I've just lost my job, so my financial situation has just worsened signifianctly. The house is still pending several major repairs as a result of Hurricane Ike, and a recent devastating flood my neighborhood experienced back in April.

I had 100% financing on the home, I have no equity and I owe the amount that I financed it for before it experienced damaged by Ike and then the flood.

My credit is so poor right now that I seriously doubt that filing for bankruptcy (and having it own my record for years) even matters at this point. I do not even care if I keep the house at this point because I owe much more than I'll be able to even sale it for in the future.

I've never filed for bankruptcy, but I'm not sure I have any other option at this point. I'm looking for a job, but even if I find one soon I still have weeks before I will even receive a paycheck, and I presently have about $900 to my name and a pile of past due bills that = over $5000 (mortgage, utilities, student loans, etc) and I am a single parent of three young children who receives no support what so ever and our refrigerator is just about empty right now.

  • Insurance company cancelled my homeowners policy?

I just bought my first house 9 months ago, and I recently received a "notice of cancellation" from my homeowners insurance co. Reason given "there is mold growing above the garage, and per underwriting guidelines dwelling must be well maintained"; however, I had already cleaned the siding with mold growing before I even received the notice...it was a very small spot to begin with.

I don't believe the reason given was why they cancelled, or could it actually be?

Additional info...The premium has always been paid on time. The house is 28 years old brick house that is not located in a flood zone. I have never filed a claim.

Also, since they cancelled my policy will it be difficult to get coverage now?

  • Parrot kept trying to pee on me?

I was visiting a bird exhibit at the park the other day. There was a large cage that contained a McCaw parrot. He kept following me around the cage and would perch near me, say "Hello", and then a few minutes later he would shoot out body fluid (looked like diarhhea)...Any ideas why this parot did this?

  • What if I'm unable to close on date stated in contract?

I have a contract to buy a house, I was suppose to close yesterday, 7/12, as stated in our contract, but my loan officer is not done with my mortgage.

The loan officer says we will be ready to close on 7/16...Now the seller and their agent are angered and have relisted the home (which was on the market 9 months when I made an offer) and claim they can keep my earnest money, and void any contracts.

Both the buyer (me) and the seller's real estate agents have now become worst enemies, and are threatening legal action...I'm shocked!

Just wondering if the seller can legally keep my earnest money, and relist because I'm a few days late to close due to my loan officer?

Are they overreacting? Am I screwed?

    Need advice please!

  • 100 % Financing Mortgage Interest rates?

I have checked with my bank, a mortgage broker, and another lender about getting a zero down %100 financing mortgage with no PMI. I have a better than average FICA score, and have a very low debt to income ratio. The best interest rate for a 30yr %100 financed fixed mortgage I rcvd was 7.5 (with lowest closing fees)

My friends and family insist I'm getting screwed over and should be getting a low 6 interest rate.

My question is should I expect a low interest rate when I have no money saved for closing, and no down payment? Does my rate sound normal for high my situation? Is 7.5 really that bad for %100 financing of fixed rate?

(I'm in Texas, 1st time home buyer, recent college graduate, single mother of three young kids---so unable to save a bunch of money)

  • What's the major difference between Sunni & Shiites that causes them to kill each other?

I tried looking up their difference of belief on the web, but really can't understand the violence behind it.

Why are they killing each other? Is it justified in their belief?

Do you believe they will ever be able to live in peace and accept each other?

  • Christianity in crisis? Joel Osteen leading others astray?

I'm just wondering why so many Christians criticize Joel Osteen?

I tried several churches in Houston before I found a church (Lakewood) that accepted me (a young, never been married, single mom of 3 kids, with several tattoos) and I feel I belong there.

However, everytime I tell someone where I attend church, their eyes roll and all can say is Joel Osteen of Lakewood is a false teacher that leads many astray, so be very careful.

If you agree, how does teaching others to be non-judgemental, maintain a positive attitude, keep faith in Jesus, and count on God's blessings, leading ppl away from God?

  • Serious question for the atheists and agnostics who post questions on this site?

I'm referring to the questions that are posted as a statement to mock religion, people of faith, Jesus, or / and God.

Please tell me honestly how old you are, what you do for a living, and if you have a college degree?

I'm not being funny. I'm a 29 y.o with a BSN, and work as a reg. nurse. See I'm serious :-) Please be honest. Thanks.

  • Are you currently taking a psychotropic medication, or have you in the past?

Which psychotropic? What is your personal experience with it and why did you begin taking it?

The reason I am asking is because I know several people with mental illness that began taking psychotropics and got worse or simply traded symptoms.

Are the drugs even worth it? Would love to hear about some positive experiences!

  • What do you think is causing the rise in mental illness?

From what I have read and seen in my environment, depression is really becoming very common in society. What is your opinion or experience on the growth of mental illness, or do you even agree that mental illness is rising?

Is it all forms of mental illness, or do you believe depression has taken the lead?

Referrence: WHO estimates that by the year 2020 Mental Illness will be the 2nd leading cause of death.

  • Serious question for men - Young single mother with 3 kids?

I'm a young, good looking woman who has a successful career, a good head on my shoulders, and my stuff together, but I have 3 kids by 2 different men who are both in prison. I often attract young, single men who have never been married and have no children. I usually avoid dating them because I don't think they have an idea of what there are getting into. What would go through your mind if you met a woman that seemed perfect to you but had three kids? How scary would that be, or would it be?
