How do I get out of the "friend zone"?
I'm the ultimate classic example of the nice guy finishes last syndrome. I'm smart, have a great job, I'm fit and physically attractive, love animals and kids, etc, etc. I'm close to the "whole package" that women say they want. Yet because I'm nice, women like me as a friend but usually nothing else. I know being nice is a huge handicap. I know nice guys come across as needy and insecure, and no matter what your qualities are, if you're seen as needy and insecure, your chances just go out the window. I don't resent women for this. It's human nature and we are what we are.
I met this girl and we became good friends. I was nice to her, as I'm nice to all the people I like, and ended up in the "friend zone" with her. It didn't bother me because initially I wasn't romantically interested in her, but as time went by, my feelings changed and I fell hard for her. She knows how I feel but she's been clear she's not interested. I'm sure it's because of the nice guy syndrome and because I'm in the "friend zone". How do I get out of the "friend zone"? Is it even possible? Can women change their feelings towards a guy or once they make up their mind, that's it? I've been in this situation before and I was able to move on, but I think I might love her and I want to fight for her. I just don't know how...

I'm just curious. I used to use this site quite a lot during the haydays of Bushism when it seemed most people here where Bush supporters. Are these people still around? Also, if you were a Bush supporter and changed your mind, what caused you to finally see how wrong he was?
34 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoDo you agree that carbon fuels should be heavily taxed like in Europe?
I know. If you're one of those people with their heads buried in the sand regarding climate change, you'll say no. This question is more for the people who are smart enough to recognize good science and are able to recognize climate change as a real big danger for humanity's future viability. Most economists agree that the best way to make people drive more fuel efficient cars, to decrease oil dependency, to make manufacturers more efficient and to make alternative energies more viable is to increase the gas tax (also to stop subsidizing oil corporations). If you oppose, what do propose instead?

Countries like Canada, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark are very liberal. These countries may be many things, but radical is certainly not one of them...

8 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoDo you hate these values?
I got this definition off of wikipedia.
"Liberalism is an ideology, philosophical view, and political tradition which holds that liberty is the primary political value. Liberalism has its roots in the Western Enlightenment, but the term now encompasses a diversity of political thought.
Broadly speaking, contemporary liberalism emphasizes individual rights. It seeks a society characterized by freedom of thought for individuals, limitations on power, especially of government and religion, the rule of law, free public education, the free exchange of ideas, a market economy that supports relatively free private enterprise, and a transparent system of government in which the rights of all citizens are protected. In modern society, liberals favor a liberal democracy with open and fair elections, where all citizens have equal rights by law and an equal opportunity to succeed."
So to all you liberal basher... Do you hate these values?

12 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoAre Evangelicals the only ones who believe in Creationism?
I know the major religions (Catholics, Anglicans, Christian Orthodox, Jews, Budhists, Muslims) don't dispute evolution. Are Evangelicals the only ones?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow can people believe in creationism?
I don't get it. Creationism is so wrong and innacurate, every time I hear about it I just want to fall on the ground and roll over with laughter. Ridiculous things like the Universe is 6000 years old or that humans lived along side dinossaurs are so preposterous. Do people who believe in creationism lack the capability of thinking logically?
Pretty much every major religion (Christians main denomination such as Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox as well as Muslims, Budhists and Jews) agree with evolution and that the universe is about 15 billion years old. Are evangelicals the only ones that are in the dark ages about this?
14 AnswersOther - Science1 decade agoAre there any other great country singers besides Johnny Cash?
I knew of the Man in Black for a long long time but I've only started paying attention to his music about five years ago. The reason I didn't pay him much attention was because he was labeled country and I really deslike country music. As you can guess, it was when I heard "Hurt" that I realized how amazing he was. I don't mind Willie Nelson to much but pretty much everything else seems pretty bad. Any other suggestions on who else might be as good as Johnny Cash? I like things that are deep and meaningfull...

6 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoDo you think religion belittles God?
I think religions are pretty much a curious cultural phenomena and that when you strip them to what should be their bare essential, it ends up just being the Golden Rule, you know, "Do unto others...".
Sadly it seems to me they get caught up in non essential crap like "Jesus sacrificed himself for our sins" ot "Mohammed was the last and true profet" or "Moses took his people to the promised land". Who cares? If there is a God, shouldn't he be above anything religions throw at us?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy do non Torontonian Canadians hate Toronto?
It seems that Toronto is the city that Canadians like to kick, yet I have never met a Torontonian who has said anything bad about any other part of the country. When people move to Toronto from somewhere else, they end up loving it.
I'm Torontonian and I can honestly say that one of the things I'd like the most would be if Canadians took ownership and pride of Toronto the way French do to Paris, Germans to Berlin or even Americans to New York.
4 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoDo you think we deserve the politicians we have?
Everybody complains about politicians and yet it is us, the citizens (if you live in a democracy) the ones who put them there, either by voting for them or by simply being indifferent to the process. Would anybody really vote for someone honest? Someone who came out and said we have to make sacrifices to reduce our debt, improve our invironment and make our health care sustainable? And that to do all this we'll have to raise taxes, quit all the porking and that things will probably get worse before they get better? Be honest. Would you vote for somone who, for example, said that you'd have to pay the real cost for your SUV and your suburban lifestyle?
18 AnswersCivic Participation1 decade agoHow do famous people receive regular mail?
Mail is something regular folks take for granted and although we get a lot of junk, some are important like mail from friends and family, bills, tax returns, etc... With all the fan mail celebreties get or the hate male politicians get, how do they sift through all the junk to get the important stuff?
