  • Any adult children struggling to forgive their immediate family?

I have struggled along time with people that have hurt me physically and emotionally in my family. I moved away to get away from the hurt and the pain that was caused and it took me years to heal. I was born with a slight deformity in my face and I was told not to smile when I was younger to avoid attention deverted to myself. I was also told that it took my father some to get used to the way I looked. I was told I was too skinny for a boy and held up in the mirror and told how skinny I looked. My mother was always manipulative and would write letters talking down to us and then later act like nothing had happened. I thought this had changed with me being away and when I met a beautiful woman that later on became my wife they treated her terribly. They blamed her for stuff she did not do and stated she destroyed the family. My parents did not even speak at our wedding dinner. Would you forgive them or move on with your life without them?

  • Would you wipe your hands of your own family if this happened to you?

Growing up I always felt "un-normal" compared to everyone else. This is mostly because there was some complications during my mother's pregnancy that caused substantial nerve damage. Because of this I cannot smile normal compared to other people. My father was not used to this and made that evident, so much so that I was told not to smile when I was younger in an attempt to hide my condition.

As I grew older this anxiety followed me, to a point where I would vomit because I was nervous. I would get screamed at by my father because I did not eat right. I was forced to look at myself in the mirror and see how unhealthy I was. As I grew older I was able to over come the vomiting spells. I was basically ignored unless I got myself into trouble. My sister was given more attention via sports and school. That being said I went on my way and did my own thing. My father did apoligize for what was done but it was an apology that was only so so and I was never to talk about what had occurred. This was basically done to save his reputation.

My parents divorced while I was in highschool and I moved away because I could handle the long drawn out drama and manipulation by my parents. After I graduated college I met an amazing woman that I eventually married. She is the first person, aside from my friends that has accepted me. My family however does not like the fact that she is assertive and straight forward. They also do not like that she gave me the confidence to stick up for myself. They have said nasty and horrible things to her and they do not respect our relationship. My mother has laid her hands on her and my father has screamed at her on the phone. My sister asked me to be an usher in her wedding and I had declined because that hurt me a lot. When I was at her wedding I was ignored for the most part.

Sorry for the long winded story. What would you do?

  • Do you think my family is acting out of control about my wedding?

My mother has not been involved at all with the wedding. Anytime my fiancee would ask her to be part of something in regards to the wedding she declined. She really has been nasty and mean to my fiancee for sometime. My father has only cared about the beer and has been disrespectful and nasty to her has well. and my sisters are no longer standing up because my one sister decided to plan her wedding very close to ours and the other declined because of drama that has insued. Would you still talk to your family after all this?

  • Why does my girlfriend not trust me?

At the beginning of our relationship I had an ex-girlfriend that insisted on talking to me. I told my current girlfriend about this, I really did not want to lose her so I lied about talking to her. It was a really sticky situation because I worked with my ex-girlfriend and I was afraid any drama would get me fired.

Now she insists on knowing my where abouts at all times even regarding my own family. Is this too much? Do you think if this continues into the future that I should just break up with her??
