Christians, how can anyone deny that the slaughter of the Midianites was genocide?
Check out Numbers 31. According to that text, God ordered the Israelites to slaughter all the Midianites, men, women, and children, with the exception of virgin little girls, who were to be taken for sexual slavery. Now I mentioned this incident in a previous question, and I was utterly shocked to find that a number of people called this "justice." It appears that the Midianites had been, how horrible, worshipping the WRONG GOD. I do not like Christianity, but I had no idea how utterly monstrous it could be, that it would lead people to call this horror justice. Somebody, please explain this to me, because I do not understand it at all.

See, for example, Numbers 31, and how in the world can such a being be considered a source of morality?
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow does eternity make life meaningful?
Some believers say that if death is the end, then life is meaningless. I don't agree, but suppose they're right. If a finite life is meaningless, how does extending it infinitely give it meaning? Never could figure that one out.

12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoTo what extent are atheists discriminated against in the US?
Well, you can't get elected to any political office if you're honest about being an atheist, and some people shun you (I know from personal experience, alas,) but just how serious is this problem? Let me know what you think.
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy is Hines Ward never mentioned among the best receivers in the League?
All the guys who make the top ten lists are noted for giong deep, stretching the field. But just as, or even more, valuable is the posession receiver, who can reliably get you 12 or 15 yards and hold onto the ball when catching it over the middle. No one does this better than Hines. Add in his blocking and his overall leadership, I don't see how any of the flashy deep receivers can be said to bring more to their teams. Hines is the new Freddy Belitnikoff. All he does is help his team win.

Please try to choose just one, and tell us why you like him or her.
7 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoWas Ayn Rand a great philosopher? Was she even competent?
Do you think we should be answering people's questions in the Philosophy by quoting verbatim large swaths of her writing?
My personal take is that she was an inspiring and gifted amateur who had almost no grasp of logic and whose arguments largely consist of asserting things. An example: she thought that the statement "A is A" entailed a strong realism in metaphysics and epistemology. But that statement is a tautology, and nothing substantive can be deduced from it.
5 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoWhere did God's ideas come from?
Prof: that's easy: if the idea is innate, that's equivalent to saying it's just always been, and so there's still no explanation of where it came from.
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAtheists only: what are your favorite parts of the Bible?
I've been a strong atheist (God doesn't exist and I know it) for 4 decades now, but there are parts of the Bible that are strikingly moving and beautiful, especially in KJV, like the 23rd Psalm and Parable of the Prodigal Son. So fess up, atheists, what are your guilty Bible pleasures?
28 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians: Have you read Dawkins' "The God Delusion?"?
And if you did, what did you think? If you didn't, don't you think you should in order to understand the other side of the question? I'm not looking for a flame war, I just want to learn more about what Christians think, so please, fellow atheists, remember that this is as question for Christians.
