  • Does anyone have an Acer Aspire 5740G?

If so, would you mind telling me if you have a soft screen - easy points for you here!

Reason being my 3 month old aspire had to go off for the screen replacing due to a faulty backlight, got it back a couple of weeks ago and knew something was different but couldn't figure it out. Tried watching a movie on it tonight and the on screen reflection is terrible.

I'm almost certain it had a 'soft' screen before but now it has a hard plasticy feeling one. It was fixed under warranty so I would expect genuine parts.

    Cheers

  • anyone clued up on employment law?

Long story but told back in Dec that I would have to work to flexible working arrangements as set by the company. Basically an extra 2 hours at an hours notice on anyday. Couldn't do it due to childcare issues and so requested a copy of my contract to see if i was contractually obliged. Never received copy of contract despite visiting HR on at least a dozen occaissions and putting in a written request. Was then told that a set shift pattern was being introduced, again childcare costs made it impossible for me to do (would be working for next to nothing). Was given the opportunity to volunteer for redundancy and so stated on my redundcy application letter that i was applying for it as i was unable to work either the new flexi-time rule or the set shift pattern and gave the resons why. Also stated the same in two redundancy interviews with management and HR - this was documented during the interviews. Have since been accepted for redundancy but not given a leaving date (despite the fact the redundancy criteria was supposed to be based on attendance, disciplinaries and work quality - none of which i have any issues with on my work record) Found out today that there are several employees who have been advised that they do not need to work the flexi-time rule or the obligatory set shift pattern. Had it not been said that it was obligatory and if i had received a copy of my contract to be able to make a fully informed decision for myself, i would not have applied for redundancy. Is what they have done legal?

(Also worth noting that 80% of the people accepted for redundancy or given compulsary redundancy were in the same situation as myself with small children.)

Is what they are doing legal?

  • Can i swop my Punto cassette for cd?

I have a 2002 mark 2 Punto Mia it came with the standard radio cassette player. I have been given a standard fit Punto cd player and want to know if I can use it in my car.

I can get it unlocked no problem as i have the security key, but i have read on some forums that it is not possible to fit the cd player in the Punto Mia as the wiring is different to other Puntos. Can anyone confirm this?

I don't really want to pay for it unlocking if i can't use it. Likewise if it means then paying out for re-wiring.

    Thanks!

  • So who do you think is to blame?

Oridinarily if a car hits someone from behind then 99% of the time the diver behind is to blame. But what's the case if some one reverses into someone else?

The situation being that car A is reversing round a bend, on private land, doesn't see car B approaching because of a fence and hits it. Car B's driver say they saw car A coming but didn't have time to move. But didn't even sound the horn to let driver A know they was there. Also car B shouldn't even have been there in the first place anyway.

No one will admit blame. Who would you say is to blame?

  • Party food for coeliac?

I have a little girl with coeliacs disease comming to my son's birthday party. It's an organised event with catering thrown in but when i mentioned the above to the manager she suggested i provide suitable food for this child.

I know she can't eat gluten products so it rules out most comon party food. Does anyone have any suggestions what i can provide for her?

I have looked on a few websites that sell suitable food but it is pretty expensive and items aren't sold individually. I only need enough to fill a 3 year old.

I did consider asking her dad to provide something for her but that seems a bit cheeky.

  • I had the head gaskett replaced a few days ago?

and now every time i turn on the ignition the engine squeels for a short while. It does stop, but it sounds terrible for the short time that it does it. Also when it's idling the revs are high and the engine jumps like it's going to stall (it hasn't actually stalled though.)

The mechanic said the engine may just need a good run, i have tried that but it's still doing it.

Is this normal, will it stop or should i take it back to the mechanic?

  • Are there any NNEB's out there?

Back in the day when you had to pass both exams and practical assesments to gain your diploma you were given the chance to be registered on the on the NNEB professional register. (Don't know how it works these days.) Does being on this register mean that you are a member of a professional body or is it just your name on a register?

  • It's my son's birthday next week?

and my family have been asking what they can get him. I've asked that they put the money they planned to spend on him into his trust fund account since we've just had Christmas and he already has loads of new toys. But certan members of my family are objecting to this - am i being unreasonable asking them to do that?

He'll be 4 so he associates birthday with gifts and might be a bit dissapointed, but i have got him something so it's not like he wont be getting anything at all.

  • How come.....?

when a bunch of muslims attempt to kill and mame hundreds of people with bombs in this country, we lock them up in cells with tv's, 3 meals a day and heaven know's what else. Yet they are wanting to murder a woman for calling a teddy bear Mohammed.

Do you think we need to re-evaluate our justice system?

  • What's the best thing to use for a shed base?

I'm erecting a new garden shed this weekend and i'm not sure what would be best to use as a base. It's a steel shed, so will need to be fixed to the base as there is no floor. Should i go for wood, breeze block, or paving slabs?
