  • Central or obstructive sleep apnea?

Recently, I've noticed that I cannot breathe at night. I was just wondering if someone would be able to distinguish if it was central or obstructive. First off, I do regularly experience sleep paralysis, however this newer sensation of not breathing is unlike that of having slight difficulty breathing with sleep paralysis. There is usually some sort of a weird sensation in my stomach area and my guess is that my diaphragm stops functioning normally. The first time I noticed this, I may have been in the midst of a sleep paralysis episode so there was a tingly sensation traveling up my spine and then pain at the base of my neck. Normally I do not experience pain with my sleep paralysis episodes, so I found this a bit odd. Also, this may seem ridiculous, but I would like to mention that my sleep paralysis is usually accompanied by hallucinations, sometimes of limbs flailing around (kind of like having a seizure) so this "not breathing" may also just be my imagination.

I am 19 years old and weigh ~120lbs (I am 5’4”), but I’ve been steadily gaining weight for the past 5 years, so weight may or may not be a problem. I try not to sleep on my back to minimize the frequency of sleep paralysis episodes (the last two times I experienced what I suspect is sleep apnea, I was on my side, so I am led to believe that sleep paralysis is irrelevant). The softness/hardness of mattresses do not seem to affect whether or not I stop breathing (as a college student, I regularly switch between sleeping at home and on campus). Also, I am very out of touch with myself so I cannot say whether I am stressed or not and therefore how stress may be affecting me (some people find this odd, but this is how I’ve been all my life). My dad has been diagnosed with sleep apnea, but we do not talk very much so I do not know a lot about it.

Lastly, I may consider discussing this with a doctor, but spontaneous death while sleeping due to sleep apnea is somewhat infrequent. I am already becoming accustomed to this so I doubt that I will mention it to anyone who will recommend that I use a CAPA machine or take medication for my sleep paralysis.

  • Editing a hundred word response?

Could someone edit my short answer response? The question is "why is _____ a significant activity?" and I talk about volunteering at the library.

I am known for having the worst grammar, so almost anything will help.

    thank you!

I have been volunteering at the library for a couple years now. The librarian there has even told me that I am the only teenager who has been committed for so long. I have talked to other volunteers my age, and they have told me that they do not like volunteering there and would quit only after several weeks. This is unfortunate, especially since the librarians are so kind. Since I am a regular volunteer, the library relies my work, and the realization that I am contributing to my community is what makes this activity significant.

  • I'm looking for a good backup school for biology or psychology?

So, I’ve been doing some research, but I’m finding a hard time narrowing down my choices of colleges. I have my reach and "maybe" schools already figured out, I just need some recommendations on some good backup schools.

Obviously, I’m not trying to get into the Ivy League schools, but a small liberal arts school that either has a decent program for neuroscience, biology or psychology is preferable… although considering where I’m at, almost anything is fine…

My gpa is.. unfortunately.. a 3.5

My ACT is ... sadly… 24, (although its late, I may retake this again, since my scores have been going by up hundreds (for SAT at least) each time I take it..)

My class rank is also unfortunate.. Weighted, I’m in about the 37% percentile.

But I have hundreds of hours for community service, and I’ve been in at least 3 or 4 clubs since my freshman year. I helped start a two clubs (including writing the constitution), which I am now VP for. I have only been taking IB classes for the last two years, so I’ll be graduating with a total of 11 IB classes, and several (at least 6) running start classes. (Considering that my school only offers IB and running start after sophomore year, this is somewhat all over the place. Hopefully, though, it might be seen as a good thing..?)

I currently live in Washington (so, definitely applying to UW) but I’m open to any colleges out there for now.

    Thank you!

p.s. I know its late, but hopefully someone will help me..

  • can i draw the american flag in "distress" for a school project?

Because according the the flag code, in section 8, it states that, ""No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America." would this apply for a school project too?

i was thinking of making it look (drawn) really old and antique with small rips, would that count as "disrespecting" the flag?

  • broken or jammed?

i might have broken or jammed my finger yesterday. because:

    - it made a small 'flap' sound

-its swollen(alot), preventing me from benging it

-any sort of movement near the finger hurts slightly

-slight discoloration on the inside of my finger

    - i can't make my finger streight anymore, bend it, but i can wiggle it slightly... (so i can't tape it to my other finger.. it wont streighten =(

only slight problem: it wasn't excruciating when i jammed/broke it, so i kept playing basketball. it hurt, but it wasn't enough to quit. (theres still no pain unless i try to move my finger or anything near it)

i'd like to know whether its worth going to the doctor or not, because i hate hospitals/doctors/nurses/ect, and going there means money.

also, last time i fractured anything, i waited about a month before asking a doctor about it... it didn't swell much, change color or hurt much... it just wouldn't move. it was my pinky then.. now its my middle finger.
