  • How do I get Windows Aero back on my laptop?

I just got my laptop not even a few weeks ago. It had Aero running, and it worked fine. Suddenly, it's back to the ugly old style, and I want Aero back. When I go to Appearance settings and select "Windows Aero", a message pops up that says "The visual styles could not be applied." GRR! I messed around with a bunch of obscure settings and went to like, two different help places... I don't know what to do... Help please? Thanks.

  • In chem class, we melted plastic takeout containers and cups. Why did they flatten out?

I thought it was so cool. Our teacher said it was because the polymers "remembered" the shape they were in (flat sheets) before they were molded. How does that work? And can I do it myself at home? In the oven?

  • Calculus/ basic physics problem for fun, involving Ferris Wheels!?

You are standing on the ground at a distance of 25 meters from the bottom of a Ferris Wheel on which your friend is riding. :]

(You and the Feris Wheel are in the same plane and your arm is at the same level as the bottom of the wheel.)

The Ferris Wheel's radius is 7 meters and makes one revolution every 12 seconds.

The bottom of the ferris wheel moves towards you.

You throw a ball at 20 meters per second, at 60 degrees above the horizon.

You release the ball when your friend is halfway up your side of the Ferris Wheel.

Your friend can only catch the ball if it is within one-third of a meter of him/her.

Do they catch it? (neglecting air resistance and assuming accerlation due to gravity is -9.8 meters/second^2)

How do I find the distance between the ball and the friend as a function of time?

Can I minimize the distance by minimizing the function?

And can Newton's method apply to this?

  • How do I transfer my edited video from Adobe Premiere 4.0 back onto my camcorder tape?

I have an AP calculus movie project and I filmed and edited in Adobe Premiere 4.0, but our final project is due in VHS format. My computer does not have a DVD burner, so the only way I can think of getting it onto a VHS is by recording from my camcorder onto a VHS. However, I need the edited version, what do I do to get the completed movie back onto my camcorder?

  • Catholic dogma: Just because they say it's true, do you still believe completely in it?

There are some views put out by the church that maybe everyone doesn't agree with. I can't think of all the examples, but a Catholic friend of mine said he never liked the idea of purgatory.

I'm mostly concerned with the views on gays. How can the Church declare homosexual acts a sin? And why? Aren't you supposed to accept everyone?

  • What is the current evidence for the "Big Splat" Theory?

So far of what I've heard of the theory, rather than a Big Bang, it's possible that our universe was created by the collision or "splat" of 2D planes which resulted in the exact same series of events for the beginning of our universe up until this point, with the exception of a lot less than a few milliseconds at the very, very beginning of it all.

    a) Do I have it at least somewhat right? And if I don't, could you explain it in more scientific terms? and

    b) Is this a valid theory on the rise? Is there any sort of basis on simulations or data collections to assume this is what 'actually happened'?

  • Are there any negative effects from taking Advil?

It seems like sometimes I'm taking about 2-3 Advil (bottle says: Ibuprofen...200 mg) about 2-3 times a day. My recommended dose is two pills, but my doctor says if things "really hurt" I can take three.

Is this bad? i.e. Is there a point where taking too many Advil in a short amount of time can negatively effect health rather than help, or ruin something in your body???

  • I'm writing a funny script, but I can't seem to find decent one-liners, any good ones out there?

Yeah, this isn't really for a big project, but I want them in good taste, and the ones I've found with google aren't all that great. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!

  • I totally stink at taking notes from textbooks.?

History is not my favorite subject. Not even a little bit.

My APUSH teacher requires us to read each chapter and take thorough notes. He collects the notebooks at the end of every quarter. I usually procrastinate and just write a bunch of random, unorganized stuff that kinds of super sums up what I've just suffered through reading. Then, when I go to study for tests, I kick myself for being a failure at note taking!!! How DO I do it?? Especially it being a subject that makes me want to sleep.

Nothing against history, really, this could go for anything. (But history has so mant dates! and names! and how can you sift through all that?!!?! =[ )

  • What are the thoughts on the book "Ender's Game", by Orson Scott Card?

I think it's brilliant. Actually, what about the rest of Mr. Card's book, such as Ender's Shadow (disappointment) and the sequels of the two?
