There is one aspect of human behavior that perplexes me to no end. What is the compulsion to take a thing (physical or otherwise) that is working and working well and change it? I just don't get it. It something is doing what it was designed to do, and doing so in good fashion, why bother it? Is just for the sake of changing it in and of itself? Take Windows 8 for example, why did those folks think that mess they created was better than the thing that was already in place and working quite well. Windows 8 makes me think of a cookie, you have a great cookie and want to eat it, someone says I can make it better; so they take the cookie crumble it into 50,000 crumbs and hand it back to you saying "Here's your cookie back, now it's not so bulky. Isn't that wonderful?"
I see this phenomenon happing around me at break neck speed. Is it that I'm just getting too old to keep up, am I having hallucinations? Can anyone tell me what's going on that is just escaping me?
1 AnswerOther - Society & Culture7 years agoDo cigarettes cravings ever really stop, if so about how long does that take?
I quit smoking cigarettes a year and a half ago, and took up smoking e-cigarettes. A year to the day after I quit smoking regular cigarettes I quit smoking the e-cigarettes. Now, it's been 3 and a half months and the cravings aren't going away. I'm not giving in to them and they don't last long. I just don't understand why they are still coming. I'm in the process of writing my first novel and of course there is stress involved. Stress is the catalyst that caused me to start smoking in the first place, now I'm wondering if this was a good time to quit. Not to make excuses to return to smoking, I just want to know is this the normal course that quitting smoking takes? Should I have waited? I don't believe in making excuses, still I don't believe in setting myself up to fail either. I'm just not sure what to do or expect at this stage. Any "I've been there" suggestions would be helpful and deeply appreciated.
4 AnswersOther - General Health Care7 years agolooking for advice on building a character?
If one of your lead characters is the story's narrator, how do you build the second lead character? The narrator would not know about things the other is thinking or doing when the two are not together. The narrating character would only know what the second character has shown in behavior or divulged.
3 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoCan anyone help me find a pattern?
Years and years ago (back in the early 80"s) I saw a woman in a full circle long sleeve maxi dress. There were 3 seams, one up the back, and one on each side. There were no seams in the front, no type of waist line at all. Yet is was cut in an A-line fashion. I have been searching for such a pattern for the better part of 15 years and have yet to find one. I started to ask her where she got the dress, but didn't; now I wish I had.

I'm writing a book (science fiction) and would like to add as much an air of plausibility to the story as possible. I haven't been able to find any real information. It, of course, is possible I've been looking in the wrong places. Any help would be appreciated, maybe even telling me where to find information. I've tried NASA...nadda!
5 AnswersAstronomy & Space7 years agoDoes anyone know what fabric (other than wool) is best to make winter clothing?
I bought a sewing machine so I could make some of my own clothes. I have really had enough of the cookie cutter clothes in the stores; and most especially with the lame attempts at correct sizing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
