I have a little girl, she is six and spoiled rotten! She's going to first grade this year, she is doing really good so far. I'm so proud of her! We got the pool put up, she LOVES IT! She'd stay in there all day if I'd let her. We have three rats who are part of the family, they are also.. spoiled rotten. I like them even better than dogs, You dont have to walk them! We also have a dog now, she's really become a member of the family. Being a JackRussell/chihuahua mix she has plenty of energy to keep up with my daughter, yet small enough to basically fit anywhere. One of my favorite things to do online is Role Play, I've been doing it for years. I find it nearly the best thing on earth to have such a good story line that you just kinda loose yourself in it. That, and playing Wii, exercising , and trying to eat right.. texting my friends and working, I dont have alot of time for much else!
Guinea Pig - URI? Baytril Day 7 (STILL SNEEZING)?
Star, my piggie, has been sneezing since I brought her home. Wet sneezes, often.
I did see crust on her nose, once. But it went away. She didnt have raspy breathing.
We went to the vet, Baytril was prescribed for 7 days. During the course of treatment, day 4 she seemed worse, not better but perhaps everything was breaking up. Day 5 she sounded better, day 6 her lungs sounded clear when you put her to your ear. Day 7 she no longer enjoys the cherry flavored baytril:)
Now, I'll have to go back to the vet? She's Still sneezing like she was on day 1 but she is eating, drinking pooping and popcorning when I put her into the big cage cause the 'sick' cage is small. but I'm not sure if she can be in big cage, with a partition or if she will infect our other guinea pig.
At this point I'm unsure if this is a URI or a hay allergy or something. I use carefresh bedding, and let her sleep in a pile of hay. She is lethargic, but she's been that way since day 1 too. Sick or just a really cool piggie. It's hard since I dont know her personality yet, I've only had her now for 15 days.
Anyone, have any clue more experience on this matter than me? I'm working all day tomorrow today was her last dose of baytril. So... I guess I should take her for a followup on monday?
Better safe than sorry I guess, however this vet is supposedly a small animal vet specialized in small animals. however, no culture and no probiotics have been prescribed at this time. I should hope if this treatment should continue that would be something to consider?
I'm really not sure if she is intolerant to the baytril, or if she just has a hay allergy (like me) :D
Anyone that can clue me in some more on this subject would be great!
2 AnswersRodents8 years agoHELP! He likes to "move it move it" But she's SPAYED! Very long. Please read! HELP!?
This is a delicate situation that I need an actual answer to. But it might be impossible to find out the answer without actually just going ahead and doing it. Which I will most likely do anyway.
So here's the problem. I've had a female dog now for about a year and a half. Love her VERY much and have spent nearly a thousand dollars on shots, spay, and umbilical hernia surgery...ect. (Dont use Banfield Vets)
The problem is: I work. She gets lonely and howls/barks her guts out all day while I'm gone. Getting rid of her is NOT going to happen we love her and she is a member of our family. I have used a shock collar, I know people frown on those but I have done all that I know to do! It's not like I'm gone 9 hours a day. I work part time, and am only gone for at most, 5-6 hours at a time.
But this is not the reason for my question. I decided that I would rehome another dog that needed a good home as a companion for her, and since she's a small dog, why not? I've got plenty of room and love to go around.
Here's the problem: The dog we adopted is an unaltered male. And he will not leave her alone.. every time she MOVES he's on her, sniffing.. trying to get a leg up.... she's a very sweet dog and would never snap or bite at another dog or child. Yes I realize. Get him fixed. But my vet tech friend tells me that if he is this adamant on trying to mate with a SPAYED female... he wont stop even if he himself is altered. (She has been spayed ever since I got her, so she is not just recently spayed.)
Now, this dog that we recently acquired has lived alone in an outdoor dog run for the past year. With no other dog to keep him company, so yes he has alot of pent up energy so to speak. But he is a really great dog, loves riding in the truck, and loves my daughter too. Very calm, and all around good dong... except for the humping. But what if I spend all this money to have him altered and it does not solve the problem? I cannot stand to see my dog being taken advantage of this way, I mean she cant even pee without him trying to get on her back or sniff her. He's worrying her to death and I've only had him since Sunday (4 days)
What do I do! What do you guys think? I really like the dog.. and most likely I'll get him neutered and cross my fingers that he will leave her alone. But he is so OBSESSED with trying to hump her that he is not enjoying life like he should be. And like my vet tech friend said, he will most likely still do it afterward the operation if he's already doing it now and she doesnt even have a heat cycle anymore.
I really think I want to keep him as he gets along like I said with my family and fits in very well. But what do you guys think? Will he stop? Or slow down? Will he gain his quality of life back? Has anyone ever been in this situation and can advise me on what will happen once I get the surgery done? Please help!
Thank you:)
5 AnswersDogs1 decade agoSuggestions to rid my aquarium of excess algae? Brackish algae eaters?
My tank has now been established for well over one year. I used to have a DIY CO2 system set up, but I have taken it out since it has caused an abundance of algae.
This aquarium is brackish water housing two puffer fish and one sailfin molly.
There is no sunlight on this tank, I have dark curtains since I worked third and slept during the day I kept out all light for purposes of sleeping.
I am using 2 40 watt bulbs over this 30 gallon tank, They are Life Glo 2 bulbs by hagen. Those are 6,700K bulbs. (Though I am still getting holes in my leaves!)
I use a micro fertilizer once a week, as I have all live plants in this tank. SeaChem Floruish (no iron) (The white bottle not the blue bottle, Possibly past shelf life as it was oozing from the lid when purchased.)
I have a timer for my lights on a 10 hour cycle.
I have to do a 50% water change weekly (Gravel siphon) with a total scrub down of all walls just to keep the algae at an acceptable level. Longer than that and it will take over.
I have added hornwort as I read it uses the excess nutrients and keeps algae to a minimum, with no results.
Most of the algae is green, but there is some brown too in the back of the tank.
I feed my fish only once a day, bloodworms, brine shrimp, krill, ghost shrimp.
I took out every plant about three weeks ago, and used a 1 part bleach/90 part water solution in hopes of killing off all algae blooms, but I might not have had the solution strong enough because it is still on my plants.
Are there any brackish water adaptable algae eaters? I mean.. Far as I know I am doing everything I need to. I realize the watts are strong for only 30 gallons, but I want to be able to have more than just java fern, java moss in my tank.
Any advice will be helpful in eradicating this problem algae!
Thank you in advance for any and all answers.
4 AnswersFish1 decade agoNeed advice!! 2 year old jack russell mix has decided to forget how to be housebroken!?
My dog has been housebroken since the day I brought her home. Now all of a sudden she doesnt ask to go out, she waits til she has the room to herself, (Or everyone is asleep) and PEES all over the floor!!!!
I dont know what to do with her, She is incredibly smart, quite possibly she just doesnt want to go outside because it's cold... I wouldnt put it past her.
But I simply cannot have her 'going' all over the place. What do I do? I am putting her in her cage when I find her little puddles.. she knows better and is very ashamed of herself when I call her over and she realizes what I'm about to scold her for.
I dont know what to do with her. Getting rid of her is not an option but I must have some advice! Please help!
Thanks!
8 AnswersDogs1 decade agoPhilips DVDRAM not booting certain dvd's/software?
First time in this section!
I know how to use a computer, but I dont know how it 'works' and when something breaks, I'm at a loss...
SO I'm really hoping some of you more knowledgeable 'techs' can help me out with this issue.
I have a standard philips dvdram sdvd8821h
I've found quite a few issues listed on the internet that people were having with this certain device not reading dvd's.
I am having the same problem. This does not happen with everything I put into it. If I try to play dvds, it makes awful sounds and never loads up. Even something as simple as a clip art disk will not load. But yet if I try to run the Sims, (Which is installed, but will not run without the disk in the drive) And it runs just fine.
I bought my daughter a telescope for her birthday and it comes with really cool star map software and all kinds of virtual lunar tours. I'd really love to be able to boot up this dvd/software but it makes those awful noises like it's about to die. Once or twice it will bring up the main menu from the disk, but when I try to click something it goes into 'not responding' mode.
I have scoured the internet for fixes, upgraded my media player, read about deleting upper and lower filters, with not much luck.
I have recently added CCleaner to my computer and used it to fix hundreds of registry errors on my computer, but this was happening before I ever downloaded this program.
Does anyone have any advice that might help me??
Many thanks!!!
2 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agoGetting rid of excess algae in my brackish aquarium?
I know it's because I am using cheap bulbs, yes. But for now I simply cannot afford $50.00 for two bulbs.
SO until then, what can I use in my brackish aquarium to cure the ucky greenish water?? It's not all clean and crystal clear anymore.. it looks horrible!
Dont tell me I can use freshwater algaecide on my brackish tank, cause I did and almost killed all my fish. Luckily my two puffers made it after several water changes to get it all out.
Anyone have any good recommendations? Thanks in advance:)
1 AnswerFish1 decade agoCan I keep a Dwarf Gourami with my Mollies?
The lady at the fish store.. (I know I'm not supposed to listen to her!) Said it would beat up my mollies cause they are very aggressive. I have baby mollies lots of plants and three full grown Mollies.
I wanted something besides Mollies in my tank to look at. Are they active? They sure are pretty.
I'm limited with the salt but I have brackish adaptable plants. There is no turning back now! I dont want any more livebearers. Mollies are my favorite, they occupy the whole tank but they are pretty big so I cannot have alot in my 29 gallon. I really need a 55 but I just dont have the space. I have a small 10 gallon with 2 mollies and 3 in my big tank. (The two are smaller and everyone picks on them so I moved them into my betta breeding tank, minus the betta)
I'm sure it varies by the fish but you Gourami keepers let me know what they are like? I would like a bit of color as I have silver and black mollies, I really like the lemoncicle? mollies but they will interbreed to I dont know what, lol.
But I have a home for the babies someone I know has a 150 gallon tank with nothing but small goldfish in it so I am going to give my babies to her that I dont keep. (Yes it has a heater)
My plants come first, then my mollies. But I dont want to cause any tank drama so what do you guys think???
7 AnswersFish1 decade agoInternal Fish Parasites?
I asked a question last night about my new Silver molly that had a red area under her skin that had slightly spread in the one day that I had her.
I separated her in a aerated tank but found her dead this morning:(
She was pregnant and the babies were expelled I suppose after her death. Some were not even formed yet, it's doubtful that they will even live but some are swimming around. Some are silver and some are light black colored, the silver ones you can see red so I suppose whatever she had affected her babies.
My question is, what can I use to treat the tank since I was forced to put the babies in my smaller tank which houses 3 other mollies. Will my 3 other mollies get it? Will it be safe to treat the tank even though some dont have it? what about medicated food? I've never had to deal with sick fish, any help greatly appreciated!
3 AnswersFish1 decade agoSilver Molly - Internal Bleeding???????
I've never had Silver Mollies, I only have Black Mollies, but I got myself a Silver Molly yesterday but around her mouth area you can see red underneath her skin, today it's moved up towards her eye a bit and she's just sitting on the bottom of the tank.
I took her out for precautionary measures but what is this? I've never seen anything like it. She obviously doesnt feel good just laying around like that. She is pregnant, but my other molly doesnt lay around like that and she is pregnant too.
Is this contagious? I'm glad I didnt put her in my big tank!
Anybody have a clue what this might be???
Thank you in advance!
1 AnswerFish1 decade agoHow do you mark a question with no best answer?
There's been quite a few question I asked that just didnt give me the answer I needed. They all go to voting of course and the only answer gets the best answer even if it has no relevance to the question simply because it's the only answer.
I know you can delete questions, but I'm interested to find out how you go about it as I havent seen any links or anything related to this. I came across it once that was how I found out that you could in fact mark questions as 'no best answer' but how do you do it?
6 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoIs this a good output for a florescent light?
I originally bought 2 6,700K bulbs which were $25.00 each.
But I found this other bulb, 2 were $6.93 and they are 6,500K
The lumens are 3050 and the irc which I never heard of is 75
I'm growing plants with the lights, I have now 60 watts for my 29 gallon aquarium, yay!
But this will be ok yes?
For the price you bet I took those $25.00 apiece bulbs back. lol
I also am using CO2 injection and feeding with flourish twice a week.
What do you guys think?
Did I do good?
1 AnswerFish1 decade agoInfo on Open Aquarium v/s Glass/plastic covers
In upgrading my lighting system I am going to need to cross the bridge of, will I use a glass cover and sacrifice a good amount of UV rays?
Or will I let it be an open tank.
I have researched both ends and I was wondering if any of you have experience with open tanks and the evaporation that stems from it.
My lighting will be 60W of Daylight florescent bulbs using a hanging fixture over a 29 tall gallon tank.
I have not checked for studs or started any of the construction I'm just collecting information so that I can have as much knowledge as possible before starting.
Any help/links/advice greatly appreciated!
1 AnswerFish1 decade agoAquarium Lighting Question:
So I got my tank set up, fish plants all that. THEN I realize that I'm not getting nearly enough output from my florescent hood to sustain my plants. At 1 Watt per gallon my plants are slowly withering away.
I've researched ALL DAY about fixtures, bulbs and housing units. And I've decided that $500.00 for a new lighting system is out of the question.
So I go look in the storage building because I could have sworn we had an old shop light in there and there is! It's a 4 foot strip housing two bulbs which would give me my 2 Watts per gallon, with the right bulbs.
My question is, not only how in the world am i going to hang that thing on my tile ceiling,
but what about a blacklight?? It's housing two blacklight bulbs right now, and I was wondering if anyone had any info on them, perhaps I can use one blacklight bulb and one 6,700K bulb to achieve my desired growing results???
I'm planning on using a metallic paint on the unit to end up with a self reflecting hood, will this be safe for my fish?

5 AnswersFish1 decade agoOMG There's a BUG in my tank! HELP!
Well, I bought some plants off line, and I added them yesterday.
But low and behold, I had a hitchhiker!
It was a small greenish bluish bug that swam pretty fast and then buried itself in my gravel
It was ovalish in shape and it had legs... I have no idea what it was or it it will harm my fish!
Anyone have any idea what this might be? I've researched aquatic insects, but came up with nothing that resembled this bug.
HELP!
4 AnswersFish1 decade agoSo I took the carbon out of my filter...?
I read that it also takes out essential nutrients that my plants need. But this leaves me with only a empty filter(No carbon inserted into regular filter cartridge) and the Biofilter in front of that.
Am I going to have enough filter medium to house my good bacteria in?
6 AnswersFish1 decade agoI just built a co2 reactor w/diffuser Oh Boy!?
Yep, and this is the recipe I used:
1) Pour 2 cups of sugar in container
2) Fill bottom rectangular portion of juice container w/ lukewarm water
3) Add 1 teaspoon of (dry active) yeast
4) Replace lid and tighten as good as possible
5) Place diffuser inside tank
5) Wait
Now my question is going to be of course about the recipe, (as I have scoured the internet and the results of exactly what to do are inconclusive.) But also about my diffuser.
I of course do not have a power head in my small 29 gallon aquarium. SO instead I used a air stone lined up with the flow coming out of my power filter's outtake. Which lines the resulting co2 to be coming out near the surface of the tank, but then the water flow is going to take the bubbles down, and jostle them about a bit.
I'm hoping to have good results with this setup! I'm really excited!
So what do you plant experts think about the recipe and the diffuser set up?
1 AnswerFish1 decade agoWill more mollies curb my female's aggression?
I only have currently 3 mollies, one is pretty pregnant, and she is SO mean! She chases the other two away from the food, and nips them all day long. Bulling them around!
Do you think it would be benificial to add another molly her size? or another male? I have one male, two females. She has taken over being the dominate one in the tank, both other fish are much smaller than her(She came from petsmart, they came from walmart, sorry I dont have local breeders, hopefully I'll be the first!)

Can you recommend a good hiding plant that likes brackish water so it wont be necessary to net and move the babies??
And can you please tell me the name of the unknown plants I have?
THANKS!
3 AnswersFish1 decade agoAquatic Plant question:?
My hornwort has grown quite a bit since I got it, (Also since it doesnt have roots does it take it nutrients out of the water iteself instead of the gravel?)
but the branches look.. droopy, not perky like they used to look, is that what they are supposed to look like?
This is my first time having real plants so I'm pretty new to it all.
1 AnswerFish1 decade agoLight Spectrum Question?
I recently upped my 17W florescent fixture to a 20W bulb.
lumens=950
only 9000 hours!
CRI/IRC=67
Kelvin=9325
Is this good for my 29 gallon tank? The light doesnt seem any brighter than it was before course it's only 3 more watts.
