Hey peeps! I'm a young professional with a zest for life !!!. I live w/ my fiance' Sarah, and our two cats and one dog. I live an active lifestyle of mountain biking, rollerblading, travelling, and martial arts. I also do lots of charity work, and am on the executive board of our local chamber of commerce. I like to keep an open mind and I am tolerant of nearly everyone, and enjoy helping others. My avatar is as close as I can get to my actual appearance, I'll upload an actual pic shortly. Thanks for everyone who responds to my questions, and I hope I can offer some good answers - Lance.
Is recycling a scam just to make people feel better about their waste?
One place I worked in took all the meticulously sorted recyclables and routinely through them in the general garbage. Then there's all the productive hours lost by homeowners who could be doing better things.....and lets face it....unless you are in like downtown NY city, there's plenty of places for landfills. Counties even compete for them (jobs, tax incentives).
The "mixed" garbage provides jobs on a sort line for the mentally retarded.
And the few true recyclables line the pockets of people with names like Waxman and Cohen.....getting rich off of all of your unneeded sorting.
I think the public has been sadly duped (and duped VERY well)

...perhaps as "investment expense".....(maybe the seminars would qualify)

Can you recommend anything or are they all just the "placebo" effect?
4 AnswersOther - Health1 decade agoIs Valerian any good as a relaxation aid?
I've heard it mentioned that derivatives of this are used to make sleeping pills, tranquilizers, etc.....isn't the fact that it is an over the counter supplement means that it really doesn't work? Is anything (supplement) as good as say a prescription tranquilizer like Valium?
6 AnswersAlternative Medicine1 decade agoDoes alcohol have any medicinal uses?
I'm talking about drinking booze. Is it useful for any medical condition. I know some performers (i.e. theatre) will have a little nip to take the edge off, what about everyone else?
2 AnswersOther - Health1 decade agoHave you ever suffered from insomnia really bad?
What was the longest you went without any sleep. What eventually solved it, and what do you recommend for stress induced insomnia? Melatonin worked at first for me, but not anymore.....

They hit it the first time, and said it was a mistake, but they came back to finish the job off. What was going on here? Is this a fake video, or was the train carrying war criminals or something?
4 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoDo all women attach a big emotional component to sex?
A friend of mine said that she couldn't sleep with a man without knowing that he would be hers and "only hers" for the future. She said that sex changes everything.....Is this the standard way most ladies feel (that the man is obligated to them after the first sex act)
13 AnswersGender & Women's Studies1 decade agoDo ladies concentrate more on feelings in a relationship than men?
A woman recently asked about the first "live together" relationship I had years ago and how I felt about it. I said that it didn't stand out in my mind since I was busy with a new job at the time and that we partied alot. She said "Oh I guess you were never in love then". I said I never really have strong feelings the way she did and that I was in fact in love....which begs the big question: Is the relationship (and related feelings) felt stronger by the woman?

2 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoHow do I have security on a public wifi network?
I'm talking about a shared wifi server like one used in a student house or a library. Can other people "see" my laptop and connect to me (I don't wan't them to be able to do this...) Is the McAfee Security Suite (Firewall) good for this?
3 AnswersSecurity1 decade agoHave you ever created a false online personna when applying for a job?
My friend did this when his current employer was hated by all the other companies in the industry group. He made up a fake name and gave him the same credentials as himself minus the current employer. He got tons of responses by leaving off his current employer, whearas in his regular resume he got none.
1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment1 decade agoWhat is the best way to apply for a temporary work permit in the USA?
For a Canadian citizen? Is it advisable to use one of those "paid services' that processes things for you or can you do it yourself? Should one line up a job offer first from a US company?

4 AnswersSecurity1 decade agoIs there some branch lines that serve many small industries?
I'm interested in way freights and smallish railroads that serve many low volume, ocassional customers (kind of like the low volume lines that the big rail companies abandoned). Can anyone recommend a website or link that shows this type of rail operation? Thanks

7 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoWere the railroads slow to accept diesels in the old days?
In some ways I'm surprised that the steam era lasted as long as it did. Why were the first diesels confined to the yards? The diesels are so easier maintenance wise.....

I'm not so sure that I've seen US railfans taking down notes this way? Also I really doubt that the female in the film is actually a railfan, she's likely a film student playing the part. What do you think of the part where they ask strangers what a trainspotter is? Would that be true for American railfans?
