  • How much is the fine for a seat belt ticket in Los Angeles, CA?

I received a summons in L.A. for not wearing a seat belt. I was a passenger in the rear seat of a vehicle and do not live in CA.

The amount of the fine is not stated on the summons, and the procedure for resolving the issue is not abundantly clear.

In my home state (NY), fines for traffic infractions are stated on the tickets, and you can simply get it over with by mailing a check. I have no experience with the "system" in L.A. Any insight would be appreciated.

  • Has anyone heard of this new movie, "Room 335"? (Premier is tomorrow on Cinemax)?

A young man from my area, wanting to understand what life was like for his grandfather, lived in a retirement home for a month at age 19, and made a film of his experiences there.

The film is not an exposé or indictment of the system, but is more of a character study of the folks living there. It has been winning awards and appears to be quite touching.

  • Hey I got a violation! Cool! What do they mean by "placeholding"?

A couple of days ago I answered a young lady's question in this group about creative excuses for missing work. Just now received a violation notice for "placeholding". Never heard the term before. Is it because I added something to my answer? At first I posted a comment, then realized that I probably ought to answer the question. The whole process took maybe 5 minutes... to give a frivolous answer to a frivolous question... I can't imagine anyone even taking note of it.

Interestingly, the topic of the question was something about skipping work to get laid. Seems like some folks around here might benefit from that, no? ;-)

In any case, I noticed the recent chatter about such things and wanted to mention it to y'all (and ask a question, of course).

In the meanwhile, I'm gonna go take my own advice... ;-)
