  • Suburban Heat/AC Intermittently Dead (1995)?

I have a 1995 Suburban. Intermittently the blowers (both front and back) and AC clutch fail completely dead. The lights on the switches for AC, Recirculate, and the rear defogger are dead when this happens. This may last a couple minutes or half an hour.

All of the fuses are good (tested with meter). I checked the AC relay (in the under hood fuse box) and "jumpered" the contacts and this causes the compressor clutch to engage. It is not the blower motor as BOTH blowers stop functioning as well as the AC clutch. The rear defogger is in the same control panel and it will not turn on when the system acts up. Then without warning (no hitting bumps or moving other controls) the system will start working. Shutting off the car and starting again does not help when broken. The battery is new and is fine. The alternator is charging the system. When working the vent temperature blows 42 so refrigerant is charged. Ideas? Schematics?

  • Cheyv Caprice Window Motor (1991)?

How do you replace the motor on a 1991 Chevy Caprice (driver side front). I took the existing motor apart and the brush is shattered. I can get an entire replacement motor and gear for about $25. But is the motor rivoted to the regulator or bolted on? If rivoted to the regulator, how do you get to it to remove the motor? Is there enough clearance to use bolts instead of rivots should there be rivots?

  • British HP Sauce. Is it like A.1. Sauce in the USA?

I read a story about something called HP Sauce that is sold in Britain. Is this like A.1. steak sauce or what would be a close approximation to what it is? This is supposedly something put on fried breakfasts.

  • Switching Power Supply Startup Circuit Problem?

I'm repairing a Switching Power Supply. It has HIGH voltage DC circuit @ 320VDC. There are two "chopper" supplies. The 12VDC is the primary output. The 20VDC is for the chopper circuit, a TL494 chip. All semi test fine with Ohm meter. There is no Vcc on the TL494 when plugged in so the chopper never runs. I can "jumpstart" the TL494 by momentarily applying external 9VDC to Vcc and Grnd. Supply runs fine w/o battery after that until unplugged.

    Brand: HANNY Model: FX-101

No schematic or tech support available. The problem is the initial startup. How does HANNY design the startup for their switching supplies? Is it a mini linear supply? A starting resistor? A starting cap? Self resonance? What do I look for? Checked power resistors, all in spec. What can I look for? Supply is only five months old, likely not dried caps. Ideas?
