Hi. My name is Aaron I have one 10 year old daughter, Anna, whom I adore. I have held jobs including: computer programmer, sales, truck driver, cook. I operate many websites including www.tatbook.com, www.antiqueshoppingguide.com, and www.womensave.org I enjoy meeting fun, new people who are intelligent and can hold a good conversation. I enjoy answering questions when they are asked in a serious manner and are valid questions. I also enjoy answering questions that get on my nerves due to the asker being ignorant or misinformed. These I tend to answer bluntly and more than likely, my answers are not taken kindly by the asker. I feel like y!A would be a much better site if people were to take it a bit more seriously, and skip the foolish and just plain dumb answers that are given many times. Points seem to me to create a reward for being dumb. Hope to see this worked on a bit more in the future. Best wishes, Aaron

  • What is the cure to "The grass is always greener" syndrome?

I will admit it, like many others, I have always thought OH! It would be so much better to move to THIS place than the place I am in. It looks so much better here! After having made such a move, after time, the same feeling crops up... this place is terrible, I miss my old place, or this new place looks better!

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, except, it really isn't, it's the same grass, it's just that we can't get to it. Once we can, we realize it's no better than what we had.

So the question is, how can we start to realize this and be happy where we are? Or is it better, perhaps, to just lead the life of a nomad and always change places?

Personally I like the idea of spending a year in a place and moving on, just to see new sights, smell new smells, meet different people, see different cultures perhaps, but unfortunately, that would require traveling the world, as here in the US, it is all cookie cutter cities. No matter where you go, with the exception of a few small mom n pop shops and local iconic places, the rest is all the same. You'll still eat burger king or taco bell, you're going to still shop at a walmart, or a krogers, you'll see the same movie in the same kind of cinema you would anywhere else in the country...

    So what is the answer?

  • A question regarding time travel and the speed of light?

I recently read on a different question here, that if an individual travels around the world in a train traveling at the speed of light for one week, when the train stops, 100 years will have passed.

Thinking about this just gave me a headache to be honest and I really cannot understand the reasoning behind such a statement.

This brings me to my question - Why would the speed at which one is traveling, have any effect whatsoever on time?

For example, if I were to fly, say, 25,000 miles per hour (Roughly the speed at which the planet rotates) and left from New York City, traveled around the equator and returned to New York City, in one hour, the only thing that would have changed would be 1 hour. If I left at 2 pm and returned at 3 pm, One hour would have passed. The fact that during that hour, I traveled 25,000 miles, there would be no difference in either myself or anyone else other than that one hour spent traveling.

Now if we take the same premise, and travel at the speed of light for one hour, only one hour would have still passed, regardless if I'd circumnavigated the world 1000, 10,000 or 100,000 times. It was still one hour for me, and one hour for everyone else, the only difference being the number of miles I traveled in that hour.

So again, why would traveling at the speed of light have any effect on time, when it is merely distance traveled that changes?

  • Why is it that rivers in Texas do not have more growth around them?

Take for example, the Pecos River. It is MASSIVE in many places, yet, there is little growth of any kind all along the river, especially nearer to Del Rio. I know there is a lot of rock in the ground, but there IS soil there. It would seem to me that a lush river like that would cause all kinds of growth, regardless of the heat. Yet all I ever saw were mesquite trees and cactus, other small shrubs. The same goes for the Amistad recreation area near del rio. It is a massive lake, all fresh water, yet nothing grows anywhere around it. Seems so strange to me to see so much fresh water and nothing but desolation around it.

  • Is it just me or is yahoo answers like an overbearing teacher?

I don't know if I'm the only one, but I am actually starting to get a bit upset when answers consistently tells me I am using too many punctuation marks, and scolds me for misspellings like a nasty teacher leering over my shoulder at my work and cracking a ruler on my desk when I make one.

Oi! Overbearing enough??? (Oh hell, those question marks just got me scolded yet again :( )

  • So many "Atheists: What do you think about ..." Here is one for theists...?

I would like to ask, honestly, if you have absolutely no shame when you tell your children there is a hell and they might go to it if they don't do specifically what your religion teaches. Doesn't that bother you? Obtaining control via threat of eternal damnation? Personally, I would never suggest something like that to a child. They are like sponges and soak everything up. Something so horrendous being put in their minds at a young age is reckless, mean, and plain silly. Just my opinion. Feel free to give yours.

  • My fiance and I want to import clothes from Mexico to sell in the US... what do we need to do?

Well, as the question states, we want to import clothing from Mexico... but let me explain a few things before you answer...

    1) We are going to have a very small shop... we're planning on selling dresses, probably 50 - 100 at any given time... not 1000's of articles of clothing

    2) We are planning on bringing the clothes into the US ourselves, through customs, not through a freight company (Again, as we are purchasing relatively small amounts of clothing at a time)

So with those 2 points in mind, what problems might we run into? How do we keep this legal?

Thank you in advance for any help or advice.

  • Do you need a real estate license to advertise apartments online?

I am starting an online business that advertises for apartment complexes and rental homes in texas and iowa. My question is, in order to advertise for the apartments, will I need to be a licensed real estate agent? I am not selling or renting the properties, I am only providing a place for the owners/companies to advertise what they have available.

  • What is "Taking a breather" on answers?

I am running into this a lot lately on answers. I submit an answer to a question and it says "We're taking a breather at Yahoo answers" or something similar, and I can't refresh or anything.

This usually happens after I have previewed my answer and hit submit.

Most of the time, it still takes my answer, but it not always. Whats going on?

  • Is this legal (providing links to...)?

I would like to know if there are any specific laws in the US that prevent someone from placing simple text links (that open a new window in your browser) to copyrighted materials such as movies and television shows.

The reason I am asking is I'd like to start a site like surf the channel or freetv. They don't actually stream any of the media over the net, instead, they provide links that open a new window to sites like megavideo and youtube...etc, where the actual movies are stored.

Is there anything that would prevent me from doing this? As long as they are not streaming from my site, I am not liable for what is contained on other sites, and can link to it like any other page on the internet, right?

I would appreciate someone who knows facts about this instead of just guesses, thank you!

  • Should yahoo answers allow homework questions?

Please read what I say instead of just answering without knowing the details...

I am really worried. Every day I come on Answers, I am hit with more and more questions from kids today asking for everyone else to do all their homework for them.

Most of these seem to be coming from kids here in the US. Are we really so far behind other countries? Are our kids really so lazy now that they can't even be bothered to do a bit of research, instead coming to yahoo answers and flat out asking for the answer to their questions?

I propose that questions like these should be considered inappropriate. What kind of message are are those of you who answer these questions sending to the kids? They don't have to work on anything for themselves?

Yahoo answers is not cheat-on-your-homework.com. It shouldn't be abused in this way, and those that do give these kids the answers, shame on you for allowing this type of behavior. Really.

What do you guys think? Should this be allowed to continue, or should !YA step up and say enough, do your own homework?

  • Why did ebay remove negative feedback option for buyers?

I am SO confused by this and would love an explanation, as ebay seems to have deemed my question to them unworthy of a reply.

When leaving feedback, sellers are no longer allowed to leave negative feedback for buyers. I don't get it. What if you have a bad buyer? One who bids on something and then doesn't send you the money? Oh, sorry, can't complain about it on feedback, let him do the same to another seller later on down the road.

What was ebay thinking in this? Have they gone insane? Why is ebay 100% about the buyers now with little or no protection for the sellers?

I hate ebay anymore, ever since they've taken this stand, and with so little explanation as to the reasons behind their decisions.

Tell me what you think? Do you know why they did this? Do you agree with it?

  • How long could a power plant operate without human intervention?

For a story I am working on, people have vanished from earth. I am trying to make this as plausible as possible.

What I need to know is, how long could a power generating plant operate before it would shut down without human intervention? As in, how long would you be able to plug something into the wall socket and still have electricity if there was no one there to run the plants?

If you think you know for sure, please leave an answer, but do me a favor and don't just make an uneducated guess. I really need this to be as accurate as possible. Thank you!

  • What would you do if you were the last person on earth?

PLEASE PAUSE A MOMENT AND READ THIS:

Before answering this question, I'd like you to read a little background story. I am working on a book and would like your opinion to help me write it so that it can be as real as possible. I know the theme has been touched upon many times, but I still want to do it, so ...

You wake up one morning, everyone else is gone. You panic, as I am sure everyone would, but eventually you have to do something. What do you do?

Please keep in mind this is a sci-fi/adventure story, not a dull "I went to the nearest department store and got a gun and raided the grocery store...." story. Please tell me honestly how you would behave, what you would do, how you would survive. I would appreciate it if you take your time answering. THANK YOU!

  • What would you do with a website called ImNotLying.com?

I am looking for ideas for a new website. The domain name is ImNotLying.com (Don't bother going, it's not an ad, there's nothing there!)

Please list your ideas below. I am probably going to ask this a few times, if yahoo answers doesn't delete the first one for some reason (It IS a valid question). This is the part that may get flagged, but please be kind and don't. The best choice may be chosen and the person who gave the idea will get credit on the sites home page when it's finished. It has to be "do-able" and nothing super fancy.

So, get your minds working and help me figure this out! I loved the domain name and snapped it up, but now I'm stuck for ideas.

Thanks in advance! Hope you have fun with this.

  • Need help with a php script please. Variables with variables?

Ok, here is my issue. I need to echo a variable passed in a form. The variable name is determined by adding an incrimental number after the word "option". For example, if the user enters in 4 different options, these are stored as option1, option2, option3 and option4 and are passed along to the next page of the form.

Here is where I run into trouble.

I need to echo the options in a while loop that can handle any number of options.

So, I take the variable $fields (the number of fields they chose to fill in) and compare that to $i which is set to 1.

Now I do a while loop.

    while ($i<=$fields)

and have the script create a separate line for each field they filled in. This part is easy. Here is where I am hung up.

In this loop, I need to call the option variables, starting with option1, and ending with however many options they chose (I.e. option14).

So how do I call option1, have the script incriment the next line to option2, then option3...etc?

  • Streaming media legal issues, only answer if you know for sure PLEASE!?

I have a bit of an in depth question, so please read the entire post as well as any added information if space is needed.

I would like to create a website that includes embedded streaming video of movies and television shows, much like a few other sites do currently. I need to know the legal issues on this, if I can be sued, or have my site shut down...etc.

Here is what I plan on doing, and what I have read on this so far.

I plan on embedding streaming videos from sites like megauploads, youtube... and so on, of motion pictures, television shows...etc. I will, at no time, have any media files of these movies stored on my webhosts servers. All of the embedding codes are obtained from other websites, most outside of the US.

Someone posted before that even if you don't host the file, any buffering or caching will be considered having part of the file on your system and therefor make it copywrite infringment, BUT, my webhost will not be buffering the video or storing a cache
