I have to create an assignment to make "the ideal species," but I'm wondering what makes a good species in the first place? E.g. ability to communicate?

Also, is it bad if they're too smart? For example, humans now, we've advanced so much from other animals so we hardly need any time spent anymore for things prime to our survival, for e.g. hunting for food.

I'm looking for a mental illness that could lead you to kill a loved one (possibly out of sudden anger) but then forget that you killed them immediately after you hide the evidence?

I'm writing a detective mystery story for an English assignment and I'm thinking of having my protagonist having a mental illness and killing a loved one all of a sudden but not remembering it. She doesn't know she has a mental illness until the end and they realise she killed them, but how do I let her get away with it?

I was thinking they could live in a small town with low law enforcement, but I'm not sure. Plus when she's hiding the body or whatever in her deranged state, how is she gonna hide all the evidence?
