I've now been watching baseball here in the UK on ESPN America for a couple of weeks, and I'm really getting into it. It's now overtaken the NFL as my favourite US sport. Anyway...

I notice that, even if the ball is not hit out into the crowd, HR or fouled back, that the fielders always seem to throw it out there to some little kid anyway. Why not re-use it? Are baseballs somehow damaged internally and hit differently when re-used? I bet they don't use a different baseball every time in the Little Leagues. How different does it feel to hit a well used baseball.

Watch when a fielder catches the ball. They throw it up and away so quickly after catching it. Why? I feel as though some day a player may be accused of not having caught it properly at all.
