• Are child nodes allowed in RSS Description element?

    I would like to add child nodes to the description element in an RSS feed. I can't seem to find any definitive information that indicates it is either allowed or not.

    The declarations are:

    ?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?

    rss version="2.0" xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom

    The current feed looks like this:

Whatever

    Start Date: Dec 12 2012 7:00PM
End Date: Dec 2 2011 7:00PM
Location:Wherever
Event Type:Type
Description:

    What I would like to do is this:

Whatever

    <start>Start Date: Dec 12 2012 7:00PM
</start>

    <end>End Date: Dec 2 2011 7:00PM
</end>

    <location>Location:Wherever
</location>

    <type>Event Type:Type
</type>

    <desc>Description:</desc>

    This would essentially create child nodes of the description element. Would this break readers if I did this? The reason for this is to more easily extract elements out of the
node.

  • Is there a way to combine a Nutone Intercom/Sound sytem with Sonos?

    I have a client with an existing Nutone IC/Sound system installed, but it is old and dated. I am trying to turn him onto a Sonos system and would like to take advantage of the already installed speakers throughout the house.

    The current Nutone master stations are really not that impressive. I also don't need the intercom feature - just pipe in a couple of Sonos boxes.

    One thought I had was to get a localized FM broadcaster and simply tune in the Nutone system to that station. Kind of ghetto though. The ultimate goal would be something that is basically an LCD touch panel to replace the Nutone master station - think of it as a wall mounted Sonos controller - that would be able to directly feed the already wired and installed speakers.

    If you are familiar with these type systems and could point me to some alternatives or perhaps some more dedicated forums that would be great. Also feel free to click my profile and email me if you like.

    Thanks!

  • Better HD Streaming with N router on PS3?

    I picked up a first generation 60GB PS3 a little while ago and have been using it to stream my video content from my PC to my LCD TV.

    I currently use a D-Link 624 802.11 108Mbps wireless router and most conent is fine. However, the HD content chokes a bit when streaming.

    It is definielty the wrieless and not my PC, since I can watch without issues if I am wired.

    My specific question is this: Does anyone know if moving up to a draft N router will help? Or is the bottleneck on the PS3 end and thee built in wireless adapter on it? Anyone actually have experience with this?

    link to my current router: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=6#

  • What's a good bootable CPU testing application?

    I have a laptop that I can not get to install XP. Here is what I know:

    Nothing wrong with RAM

    Brand new hard drive

    5 different XP install disks used

    On this one particular machine, it gets stuck at Setup is starting Windows (when booting form CD). Tried all the tricks to get around this F5 to skip laoding certain drivers, all combinations of BIOS settings, etc.

    RAM, HD, and Install Disks all work fine in other machines. In a couple cases others have determined that the L2 cache on the CPU was defective and caused the install to hang.

    So, I need a program that I can boot to (since I do not have an OS installed) and that can run tests to determine if the CPU is fully functional.

    Oh, and BTW - its a laptop, no no I can't try the CPU on a different board. (Simply because I don't have antoher laptop to swap it to).

  • Apply CSS across domains?

    I was wondering if it is possible to link to a CSS file across domains without security/cross browser issues.

    Here is the setup: Manage one primary site on Domain A with secondary content on Domain B. Both sites use same layout/design. I have direct control over Domain A, but changes to Domain B require a third party to implement.

    I would like to have immediate control over the stylesheet and wass thinking about having the CSS file on Domain B be a hard link to the file on Domain A.

    So instead of the LINK tag on Domamin B being a relative link to the finle on Domain B, its a URI to the file on Domamin A.

    Any issues I should be concerned with?

  • Why do people insist on converting avi to DVD?

    For all the time spent on converting to DVD, why are people still making their avi's into DVD's?

    The cost of DVD players that can play divx/xvid files is incredibly low. One of the best for the price if the Phillips DVP5960 at about $70 US everyday at Wal-Mart. Even cheaper on sale.

    Is it really worth all the time spent converting to DVD? You lose image quality, and besides, DVD's are more expensive than CD. (Granted, not that much more these days).

    A lot of players, including the 5960, have a USB port on the front so you don't even need to burn to disk. Just use a Flash drive or external hard drive.

    Wouldn't you rather save up $70 and not waste 4-5 hours of processing time?

    I would much rather have the time spent downloading more content than used converting.

    So very very sad.

  • Is there a one click solution for extract .rar files?

    OK - so if you donwload a large .rar file, it is often all the separate .rar's pput into one. So you have to extract all the little .rar's and then extrat the avi itself by doing antoher extrat from one of the little .rars.

    Example:

    wyntre.rar is 700mb

    Using Winrar, I extract it and get

    wyntre.sfv

    wyntre.rar

    wyntre.r01

    wyntre.r02

    etc....

    wyntre.r47

    then I need to select one of the above and extract wyntre.avi to actually get the file.

    Is there a one click solution for this? or will there always be a two step process.

    And answers like "just get the original avi" or "use utorrent to only select the files you want" are useless. Some files are only the single giant .rar. (Like most on IRC).

  • What kind of DVD Burner is this?

    Picked up a DVD burner at Staples last night. It was branded as an I/O Magic 16X Dual Format Dual Layer Internal Drive.

    I know that I/O Magic sells whatever they get their hands on, so it could be an LG, LiteOn, BenQ, etc. It is definitely NOT what the box says.

    According to Nero, the drive I got does +/- and RAM. Also, the tray has DVD3 Multiple Format DVD Rewriteable and DCS (Dual Cooling System) stamped on the front. In device manageer, all that lists is DVD DC 16X8X5.

    Final part of this is that the Nero disk that came with it also installed LightScribe support, which other installs I have done never did. Not sure if this is standard of the version of Nero supplied (6.6.6.3) or if the installer picked up on the fact that this drive is capable of LightScribe, so installed it for me.

    Anyway, machine is back to client now so I can't get more info. Just wondering what they actually got - more than they paid for, but no big deal.
