  • Is it "English" or "American" that we speak?

I always have said that we speak English(in the US), but I've heard some people say that we speak 'american' as if it's an entirely different language.

But basically we do speak the same language as the people in england, or AUS. We have many different words but if we went there or they came here, we could still easily communicate.

So, would it be right to say that we both speak the same language(English) just different dialects?

  • Acceptance into the University of Pittsburgh?

Well I just got my SAT scores, and got 520 in reading and 530 in math. My writing was very low at 450 but PITT doesn't look at writing.

-On college board, it says the middle 50% SAT scores for PITT were between 560-660.

My GPA for my junior year(final average) was 3.83, with my more difficult classes-physics, pre-calculus, statistics, and the other regular classes.

No after-school activities, but I do have some part-time job experience.

I'll be applying for a more regular type of major, nothing in medical, or engineering.

  • Acceptance into U of Pittsburgh question?

I just finished my junior year with a final avg. GPA of 3.86

I took my more difficult(as difficult as they get with my school) classes-two maths and physics along with other regular classes.

No after-school sports or anything, but I have a little bit of volunteer work done.

I took the SATs about two weeks ago, and am pretty sure that I got below average on them.

I'd rather not re-take the SAT's, is there still a good chance I could get into PITT?(I nobody can answer for sure but i'd like to hear what people think).

  • Sending SAT scores question?

I'll be taking the SATs in a couple of weeks, and i've used two of my free copies to be sent to two different schools.

I'm a junior and will be appling to the schools for the 08-09 school year.

My question is do I need to e-mail the schools to tell them that I sent my SAT scores to them? since I won't be appling for a few more months..

  • Questions about wi-fi?

I've always used cable broadband internet(comcast) so i'm kind of confused about wi-fi.

Is it true that if I get a laptop, then buy the hardware, I would have wireless internet in my house..and still pay the same monthly bill?

If yes, what do you do with the plug that goes into my computer now for the cable internet?

Also, i'll be going to college next year with a laptop..do colleges usually supply wireless internet in the dorms, or will I have to pay monthly internet bills?

  • Could you tell me which college is better, academically?

    Central Connecticut State

    East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania

Programs do not matter since I only plan on attending one year then transferring, but I want to attend the better of the two. I would(well my parents would really like) like to go to East S. because I live in PA and it would be much cheaper(about half the cost). I'm pretty sure I can get accepted into either..so which one would be better?

Also, is East S. just a college town?

  • Transfer to Euro college(more in details)?

To be accepted(assuming you have good enough grades, ect) to a college in europe(mainly germany or austria) do you need to have one year of university completed in the US to be accepted? Or does it depend on the college?

-To be accepted as a regular student, not an exchange student.

  • How safe is it to visit South Africa?

I realize the crime is very high in SA, but if you stick to the more-tousit type areas is it safe enough to visit?

And do you think the SA government will bring down the crime rates in the future for the 2010 world cup?

  • Real estate agents in Germany?

Do they have any specific educational requirements? I know in the US you usually need to take a written exam and college courses, but I believe in some EU countries(UK, Spain) you don't need any requirements(besides good communication skills).

And is there a website for real estate agent requirements? I looked but couldn't find anything.

  • Is it much easier to get a work permit and residence permit for Germany if you speak German?

I know it will make things easier once in germany, but will it help you of being accepted for the permits?

Also, are there any sites with good information on moving to germany, from a non-EU country?

  • If Taiwan declares independence from China and a war fallows, how would the US be involved?

Do you think they would take a side or not be involved that much?
