  • A question about job interviews. Does anyone know why this happens?

Why don't companies send a letter or email to the people they have interviewed to let them know that the job has been filled? It is very stressful to wait for two or three weeks and hear nothing back from the companies. I send a letter of thanks after each interview but the companies don't seem to have the courtesy to inform me when the position is filled. I email them one week later to let them know I am still interested, yet they don't even respond to the email with a note saying if the job is filled or not. I have heard this same thing from other people who go to interviews. Is it the new practice of HR to just ignore the people after the interview? Why would they think this is acceptable to job candidates? Is there anything I can do or say at the interview to encourage them to let me know?

  • How do I insert a delta (triangle) and a degree sign?

I would like to know how to get science and math symbols such as "delta" and "degree" so I can use them in my answers here. Is there anyone out there who can explain this to me in very simple terms? My computer IQ is very low.

  • What is my relationship to the baby?

I just found out that my nephew and his girlfriend have a baby. We are all happy for them, but this question came up:

If my nephew (my bother's son) has a daughter, what is my technical relationship to this baby girl?

  • What do you think of this poem for a lost loved one?

    Mommy Please Don’t Cry

    By: Kenny P. aka- Cobra

    I don’t remember how I got here,

    Or why, I’m up above.

But I know I’m not alone,

In this place I’m speaking of.

I just want you to know,

that I’m doing fine, in this perfect place.

so try not to cry, and worry too much,

Because I’m in His hands, and in His loving grace.

So remember these words I say to you,

and promise me, you’ll carry on.

I’ll always be your loving daughter,

and I’ll be here, you’re whole life long.

It wasn’t your fault; this I know is true,

so never think, you could have changed it.

just remember, all the years we shared,

and that I’ll always be, in your loving spirit.

  • Please help me with an income tax question?

My ex had my 18 year old son declared emancipated when he graduated from high school last June. Since then the ex has had to pay no child support. The ex still has my son on his health insurance, and he intends to claim my son as a dependent on his federal income tax. My question is - How can my ex claim my son as a dependent if my son has been declared emancipated? Is this allowed?

  • Why are people offended by the idea of a minute of silence to allow students in public schools to . . .?

Why are people offended by the idea of allowing a minute of silence for students in public schools to pray or meditate in their own way? How is that a threat to the belief system of another individual if it is done in silence? Sometimes things happen and students want to seek comfort from some other source.

  • I need advice about my 24 yr old daughter and her life?

My beautiful 24 year-old daughter had an emotional break-up with her boyfriend of 3 years in July. Since that time she has spent most nights with friends hanging out at bars. She is losing her job in two weeks when the business closes and has no other job lined up. She will not be able to pay her rent and other bills, but she seems to be almost frantic about going out every night to drink and party with these friends. I am worried about how she will get by. Can anyone help me understand what I need to do or say to get her to accept some responsibility for her choice of activities? By the age of 24 she should have grown out of the bar and party scene. She has no plans or goals for the future. She dropped out of college so she has no higher education. Please help me understand what to do.

  • Does anyone want to help solve this problem?

I am really tired of people answering every question with the same answer "Love is the answer to everything. . . . . . ." and then advertising for people to go to their website and sign up for their dating service. Isn't this supposed to be a "spam-free area?" I am asking everyone to report this abuse and give a "thumbs-down rating. If we all work together we can clean up this mess and allow those who have genuine answers to continue.

  • Why do women believe married men will divorce their wives for them?

I have been noticing all the questions from women who are dating married men. They always complain that the man has not divorced his wife and ask how long it will take for him to divorce her.

Don't these women realize that this line is as old as time? When will women understand that married men are not going to destroy their families and lose their children when they can get extra sex on the side?

  • Why is it that so many people are prejudice about someone who is overweight? Not obese, but heavy?

I have tried the dating websites as suggested by people. I have met nice people right here at "answers." We IM and get along great until I send a picture. Yes, I am overweight. I tell them up front so it should not be a surprise. I am 5'6" and am 50 lbs over the "ideal" not maximum recommended weight for my height. I have lost a bit and am still losing. It is just taking a while. I believe in honesty in any relationship and won't lie about my size. Why is it that no one corresponds after they hear this?

  • This question is for people 45 and over please.?

I am a woman who is newly divorced (good thing). The question I have is: "How does someone over 45 begin to meet single, educated men?" I tried different churches and found men who want to spend all their time at church. I don't want to meet someone in a bar because I just divorced an alcoholic (even though I still drink because I'm not an alcoholic). I am ready to meet new people, I just don't have a clue how to start. (I am listing this under divorce so I don't get a hundred answers from kids under 12.)

  • Does anyone know the lyrics to a song from the late 60s that has the refrain "two hangmen hangin from a tree"

In the late 60s or early 70s there was a song about one hangman hired to hang another. The last refrain was, "Two hangmen hangin from a tree and that don't bother me at all." Where could I find the lyrics to this song?
