  • Usernames, fake names, and FB?

What do you think about Facebook being the only major social media site that does not allow "fake names".

Twiiter, Tumblr, instagram, reddit etc all allow usernames and yet FB like some old dinosaur doesn't.

  • Helping with estrangement and toxic people.?

I will soon be estranged from my family (due to abuse, lies, total lack of emotional support, and generally being toxic assholes ) and I am wondering if anyone has any general advice and what to expect and how to handle this. What surprise may come, feelings etc.

And more specifically how to manage certain relationships I don’t want to end because they had nothing to do with my abuse. I do not want any contact with my family and certainly do not want them to know where I am what I am doing so I can’t have relatives gossiping or telling them even though I do like some of them. I also don’t want to hear any, “It wasn’t that bad.”, ‘Maybe they’ve changed” rationales either.

Also how do I manage my FB because I have made a new family made out of my friends and we make plans on FB so it isn’t convenient for me to just dump FB so I can dump my family. And FB won’t allow me to use a fake name they cannot find.

  • youtube music vs. DJ/Club?

I m curious about why music content gets taken down on YouTube due to copyright yet a DJ could play the same song to hundreds of people at a club over and over and there is no issue. Both time the songs were likely paid for once, especially if the DJ is spinning a record.

How is playing a song on YouTube different than being a in real life DJ working at a club>

I mean supposedly if I bought an a;bum playing it for my friend would be copyright infringement.

Is this just a case of it s easier to monitor YouTube?

  • Sexual abuse survivor needs advice.?

Backstory: I was 7-8 when I was raped by my mother. To cover it up, she ranted about stranger danger, made me doubt my own memories/feelings and painted me as bad/selfish all to keep my self-esteem to low to speak up.

Nobody KNOWS I was raped by except my therapist, and couple friends. I have PTSD and from age 25 have suffered night terrors twice a week where I relive the rape.

When I merely hinted to my youngest brother that my therapist said I have all the symptoms of a victim of sexual abuse his reaction was SO non-welcoming I never dared speak of it again. Also my mother’s borderline web is so strong most will not believe me AND it will destroy and ruin SO MANY LIVES that had nothing to do with my abuse at all.

So I’ve decided to just accept the truth of my abuse, disappear, and never speak to ANY of them again. My mother gets off and I am seen as the ungrateful one with bad manners and a bad attitude. But I think I can handle that. She doesn’t control me anymore.

Current problem: My youngest brother, mentioned above, has a 1yo son and is using my mother as a nanny. I am afraid this kid will be her victim if I stay silent. But I get so upset thinking about the impact it will have on others, plus my mother’s narrative is SO STRONG that nothing will change so why bother.

I am really hurt and mad at my mother for putting in a place where I have to make this kind of decision and I need advice; stay silent or destroy the family…

  • Sampling, song remakes and the law... your thoughts?

I was reading these two pages today

    http://boingboing.net/2011/07/08/creative-license-...

    http://www.lifeportal.com/article/sampling-when-it...

And I know is SF they have this mash-up party that I was told is supposedly breaking ALL kinds of copyright laws.

But I am wondering why it is the only SOME people get chased down by record lawyers and others don't. I mean if they really were mad about sampling or people recording songs without permission (i.e. braking the law). Just about every teenager on YouTube would be getting sued.

I wish Public Domain had't been ****** with by Disney back the 30s. It is like greed is on speed or something these days.

  • Clothing/fashion getting uglier?

I went into pacsun the yesterday (hadn't been there in a while) and man they had some of the ugliest clothes I've ever seen from top bottom. Maybe it's just me but the prints were hideous and the denim parachute pants/joggers with the drop crotch look just ridiculous. LOL! Anyone else think today's youth fashion is in a downward spiral at the moment. And I though the emo/scene scene a few years back was over the top but it wasn't outright hideous to me.

  • Need help making britpop indie playlist?

If your were making a 90s britpop/indie music playlist what songs/bands would you play? I m being generous and loose with that genre label as labels are tricky to begin with.

It would be helpful if you included titles and artists. I need both male and female acts/bands or bands with prominent female members. Thanks.

  • Bitter/snarky 80s movie quoutes?

I need some great film quotes from the 80s that are bitter or mean, preferably about love. Some real zingers! Short and sweet is better but I'll take anything.

    For example:

Dana Barrett: You don't act like scientist.

Pete Venkman: No, most of them are pretty stiff.

Dana Barrett: You're more like a game show host.

Jake Blues: It's good to see you, sweetheart.

Mystery Woman: You contemptible pig! I remained celibate for you. I stood at the back of a cathedral, waiting, in celibacy, for you, with three hundred friends and relatives in attendance. My uncle hired the best Romanian caterers in the state. To obtain the seven limousines for the wedding party, my father used up his last favor with Mad Pete Trullo. So for me, for my mother, my grandmother, my father, my uncle, and for the common good, I must now kill you, and your brother.

Oliver Rose: I think you owe me a solid reason. I worked my *** off for you and the kids to have a nice life and you owe me a reason that makes sense. I want to hear it.

Barbara Rose: Because. When I watch you eat. When I see you asleep. When I look at you lately, I just want to smash your face in.

  • Sexual abuse and retrieving old memories?

My therapist says it is almost certain I was sexually abused as a child but I have NO memories of anytime before 6th grade, which is a likely symptom of abuse.

Are there any exercises I can do to try and retrieve childhood memories.

I look at family photo albums and I can't remember the events that are taking place even though I can remember that we had a that hideous green couch that is in the picture.

  • Munchausen by proxy?

I am wondering if this can also be related to not just a parent inducing physical illness by mental illness as well. My mother always said I had Aspergers, or social anxiety, or any number of people problems and yet when I was away from her I was fine. When I was with her I'd shrivel and clam up.

  • Isn't it all EDM the same as remixes, trance, dubstep, edm etc...?

I've been clubbing for years and I don't get the difference between all these genres, except MAYBE trance. But most "club" music sound very similar despite all the sub-genre labeling.

I was told dubstep has a "drop" and when give a sample of one I instantly thought yet Hex Hector and people like him "dropped" the music back in the 90s on remixes like the soul-hex anthem of Un-Break my Heart. So how is this new? And aren't people like Hex, Almighty, David Morales, Love To Infinity, Thuderpuss... also electronic dance music?

Are these genres labels simply a way people detach themselves from old music to seem different and new? Do you think this obsessive labeling is useful? Annoying? Hurtful?

I guess is it useful is some ways because I love me some Hex but dubstep can take a step off a short pier. LOL!

  • I need some Portuguese help?

II need some translations and possible explanations of these song titles.

    Pedra de responsa

I know pedra means stone and response I believe is response but I am guessing this is some kind of Brasilian phrase with no direct translation.

    Also

    Que Seja Bem Feliz

This seems to read as "What makes you happy" but I am not sure.
